Any plans for a US Godzilla sequel?

I know everyone agrees that the first one sucked-but has there been any consideration for a sequel(maybe get it right this time with a guy in a rubber suit)?

We probably would've heard something by now. I would imagine Hulk may go down the same path since they both followed the same weak box office pattern.

What would be the point? The first movie was a disapointment (critically and financially) so I doubt Sony has any interest in making another. Really, why even bother. The appeal of Godzilla is a guy in a rubber suit in a funky Japanese B-movie. The Hollywood version lost the rubber suit and the Japanese. And considering Toho still makes these movies (even Godzilla 2000 got a US release) we might as well just watch those!

You have to ask Chris Lee. I haven't seen anything in the pipeline here. And that Devlin started his solo production company doesn't help.

I don't know if this matters really, but the short-lived cartoon based on the movie picked up the story where the movie left off. That is, Nik Tatopoulos raised that last Baby Godzilla to be his buddy, and together they battled a gaggle of other giant mutant creatures.

Anyway, I don't think they will make a sequel.

I think the only way it could work is to have one of the babies all grown (like the cartoon) and start destroying the US, and the real Godzilla comes in and pounds him into the street.

Bite your tongue! While, as far as I'm concerned, Toho can make as many more Godzilla films as they want (because I'll certainly watch them), another one from Columbia is not welcome. I think that they were expecting the US one to do better than it did, so there's probably nothing to worry about anyway. Talks of a sequel were common before the films release, but after the box office results came in (along with the backlash from critics and Godzilla fans), such talk seemed to practically disappear.

The Hulk actually made a lot of money. At least enough to warrant a sequel.

I enjoyed Godzilla more than The Hulk. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to either although for Godzilla it should be a completely new cast and for The Hulk its gotta be the same cast.

I haven't got Godzilla on DVD, does anyone know if there will be a special edition sometime soon?

EDIT: forgot to ask, does anyone know where I can view the teaser for Godzilla cause its one of the best teaser trailers I've seen.

the US godzilla movie would have been GREAT if they had done 3 things...

a) make godzilla LOOK like godzilla and not a mutant iguana
b) give him his radioactive breath (duh!!)
c) made him near invulnerable to normal military firepower... the US godzilla flick godzilla was a PANSY. The guys who made it should have watched the tokyo bay bridge scene in godzilla 1985 and based the G-mans toughness on THAT.

i really have no idea why they strayed soooooo far from what godzilla is. IMO, a guy in a suit isnt necessary, but being true to the character IS.

Godzilla 98 is on DVD is considered a special edition. It has a few little featurettes, a commentary by the SFX people, and I think the Wallflower's music video for Heroes.

The only possible new DVD I'd see is a Region 1 Superbit, which of course would drop those features for a DTS track. I believe it's out in region 2.

1. I liked "Godzilla" 98.

2. If you don't view it as "godzilla" movie it's actully a cool popcorn flick.

3. I would like to see a sequel...why not.
