So I take it you get called on by Vividence often for surveys? I've only been called upon to do a survey like once every 3-4 months.
You are right - they really are tough to sit through. Very repetitive, but worth it at the end.

You know Vividence keeps a record of what GC's they've given out with your account, all you have to do is log in and click resend and it will be sent right back to your email address. Then I guess you could try again

I checked my preorders of the Warners Legends (still hasn't shipped) and Indy Jones box sets earlier today. Both of these orders had $25 GCs applied to them (Amazon VISA rewards). They both were fine a few days ago, but now both GCs have disappeared from the orders. I called them up and they acknowledged that I had used GCs on the orders but somehow they weren't being applied correctly now. They forwarded it on to the "gift certificate specialists" for review.
So it appears Amazon is having lots of issues with GCs right now.
Their entire order system has always been buggy, especially with promotional GCs and STL discounts disappearing, especially when you try to go in later and apply a regular GC to the order. Always keep good records of your orders.

I checked all my orders today and found one of them had a non promotional GC disappear. A few other orders with promotional GCs were fine. Also other discounts like STL, trivia credit, and free shipping were still applied to all my open orders. So it looks like Amazon is having a problem with only the non promotional GCs.

I got a followup e-mail from Amazon assuring me that the GCs are in fact applied to my orders (they delineated the exact amounts I will be charged which were correct), but that a technical glitch is preventing them from showing on the order summary.
They are working to correct the problem, expect to resolve it soon, apologize for the inconvenience, yada-yada.

I had the same exact conversation with a rep last night. She assured me the gift certificates were showing on "her screen" but they were having problems. Since my orders aren't scheduled to ship until November, I have some time to see if they are re-applied. Fortunately, I still have the gc numbers in my files and the order confirmation e-mails. I have learned the hard way to save EVERYTHING!
Amazon needs to hire some programmers that know what they are doing. Between this, and the share the love situation, you need to check your pre-orders everyday. If it wasn't for the fact that I had gift certificates and share the love, I would be giving Best Buy all my business because of the Reward Zone card...

My GCs have disappeared too. Called the CS phone number listed in the tread above and didn't realize that Amazon.com switched to an automated system. Either way, there is an option to look up an order over the phone. Although the site shows my order without the GCs the system is still quoting the correct price when I placed my order with the GCs. This would verifiy what the CSRs are seeing and telling us.

Thank you for writing back to us at Amazon.com.
I have reviewed our previous correspondence and your account.
I sympathize with your frustration in this matter. However, please
understand that the information provided in our last message
correctly represents our policy at this time.
As my colleague previously mentioned, your gift certificate account
balance is $115.00.
I found that a total of $1,609.68 of gift certificates were redeemed
to your account. Below my signature, I have included a detailed
list of the order numbers and the gift certificate amounts that were
used. Here is a summary of how these funds were used:
$ 1,609.68 Redeemed
(-1,454.73) Used towards orders
( -39.95) Expired
---------------------
$ 115.00 Remaining Available funds
Thank you for your understanding. We hope to see you again at

Just spoke with a CSR before I saw this thread  and she assured me that even though the account online doesn't show the GC, it will be applied when shipped out. The order I applied my latest GC to is in the "shipping soon" phase, so I'll be able to confirm in a few days or so. Also, it's very, very good to keep those confirmation emails from Amazon showing the actual purchase price after STL, GC, etc. I've still got confirmations going back to April of this year!

Hello from Amazon.com.
Thank you for writing back to us about this situation. I have
reviewed our previous correspondence and your account. According to
our records, your current gift certificate balance of $115.00 is
accurate.
While $39.95 of your gift certificate funds did expire in 2001,
these funds were only recently removed from your balance. This
appears to be the cause of the misunderstanding and we sincerely
apologize for the frustration caused.
I am very sorry that you were not able to use your gifts before
the one-year expiration date had passed. However, as previously
mentioned, our policy indicates that we do not honor gift
certificates once the expiration date has passed.
I realize that this may be disappointing to you, but we stand firm
in our intent to enforce this policy. Please know that we do
consider all customer feedback, and we appreciate you taking the
time to contact us regarding this matter.
Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.
Best regards,

This is affecting their whole system, as I noticed that the GCs that were applied to my archived orders from '98-02 aren't showing up either.

I canceled my order for the Scarface giftbox which I had purchased with gift certificates. Now they do not show up in my gift certificate balance. I thought that might happen if I canceled but I did not want the giftbox to ship just incase that received somemore giftsets. I called customer service but they could not help me much. All they said was to check after the problem is fixed. It's been too long already, the problem should have been fixed by now.

Problem's still not fixed. I received an order that included a GC that was applied to it. My amazon account online shows the price minus the application of that GC, but my credit card account online shows that I was charged the right amount. Looks like the glitch is only a visual thing online, and the actual charges are being applied correctly.
Or at least we could hope.

Not really when you use gift certificates on your entire order and cancel it. I am still waiting for the $40 in gift certificates that I used for an order but canceled to show up in my account again.

i've had a few problems with amazon gc but with a few complaints if has always improved my situation....
i had a 50$ borders gc, i broke the order up into two to get the quickest shipping. as it turned out i misstyped the gc so they ignored it completely and just charged me full price. after a bit of complaining (like 4 to 5 emails over two months) they refunded the credit charges, and then charge 50 back onto my borders gc, so i got those first two orders for free! that was pretty nice.
it's a shame that they seem damn stern on that 39 in gc, and since there wasn't a glitch or mistake involved you may never get it back. i'd wait a few then email them back asking for some kinda cash payment of the 115 since you nolonger wish to use them anymore over this matter, being a customer who has spend over 1600 there and they are giving you a hard time about this 39. of course you make get nothing but it seems the more you hound them, they might cave in.

Well, I am just about done with Amazon after this last stint of problems. For those of you who have seen GCs vanish and have been promised by CSRs that they are still there, just not showing up, I hope you have a better experience than me.
I had $25 vanish from an order I placed for Lion King and a DVD for my father as a Christmas gift. I noticed it like two weeks before it was to be shipped and brought it to their attention. They assured me it was really there and not to worry. Sure enough, it mailed out and the gc wasn't on there.
This pissed me off because in my earlier contact with them I had mentioned that I was short on money and that I could not afford a $25 mistake at this time. Sure enough, they brought my balance of my checking account down to $0 and I got an overdraft. It's now been three days since I called their customer service about it again and nothing yet.
Considering I have another order for Indiana Jones set through them that another $10 gc disappeared off of and it's shipping out soon, I have no faith they will be able to correct that in time either.
This isn't the first time this has happened with me and I know others have had the problems as well. I can understand the mistake going through if it's not caught in time, but to me there seems to be no excuse when it's caught, they have plenty of time ahead of the shipping and it still gets charged wrong.

It's official, a problem still exists ... what the Amazon.com CS Reps are telling you isn't true. I just had my Indiana Jones box set ship today without the GCs. The 'we shipped your order' email as well as a pending charge on my CC show I was charged full price. I just got off the phone with a CS Rep and she confirmed it. According to her, the system showed that it tried to deduct the GCs from my order but encountered a problem doing so.
She had to fill out a request for a GC specialist to review my order. A GC specialist? Not only will it take 1-2 days for them to respond but they'll only be emailing me. It would have been nice if they could also follow up with a phone call for all of the trouble their causing. Now, I'll have to wait to see if this GC Specialist determines whether my CC should be credited for the GCs' balance, couldn't even get anything definite. I remember back in the day when I had a similar problem, the CS Rep was able to handle these type of issues.
She assured me that the technical people are aware of the problem and are working diligently to fix it. :(

The sad part about this is that we are the small percentage of people that are "keeping eyes" on their orders. Imagine the number of people that aren't on the boards all the time. They won't even realize it until they get their statements. I am really starting to think there is more to this than a mere "computer glitch." This situation is a bit too reminiscent of the "refund" problem I had not too long ago. I believe it was speculated that refunds were being delayed to spike the last fiscal quarter...if you get my drift.

If they do not fix it to your satisfaction call the credit card company and dispute the charge. You were charged more than you agreed upon when ordering.
If your card company lets you dispute partial charges do that, otherwise dispute the whole charge if you have no other option.

Agreed. There is no reason why you should be waiting for a "specialist" to decipher your order. The last time I had to wait for a refund, it took almost three weeks, maybe more. By the time you wait it out, your rights could be gone. Maybe a bunch of charge disputes will help them to "figure out the problem."

Unable to apply a non-promo GC to a previously placed order (seems to be related to the problem of the system being unable to deduct from the GC balance).
Updating or changing CC for a previously placed order will make your GC disappear (again!?!).

I've been using Amazon for years for a lot of my shopping(dvd and otherwise), and I have used all kind of gift certificates, share the love, trivia, etc. and I have never had a single problem with things sticking. I keep careful track of all my numbers, and they are always right on. When I have had a problem with any part of my order(missing, damaged, coupon not being accepted, etc.) I write via the help page and I get an answer in less than 24 hours and usually a $5 promo gc for my trouble. Maybe I spend too much money.

I'm disputing my charge from Amazon.com due to their NEW business practices. I'm also been trying to resolve this issue with Amazon.com. Initially this is what I was told, but low and behold quite a few days past without a response. I decided to contact Amazon.com again to find out what was really going on. Ashley W. was able to pull up my order and found out that the GC specialist assigned to this order had look at my account. She personally contacted this person and told me that the GC-specialist would response to me within the hour. She was very professional and to my amazement the GC specialist did respond in less than an hour, BUT with the SAME message above!!! At that point I had it with Amazon.com and send a response back.
Here is what I received, from my assigned gc specialist today in response to my email. Notice that they claim that not only do they have a technical glitch with deducting GC on orders, they also state they have a technical glitch with refunding orders!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.com.
First, please let me apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with this order.
I have verified that you redeemed the gift certificate onto your account. It appears that a technical problem prevented the gift certificate from being applied to your order.
Generally, we would apply the gift certificate funds to your order or request a refund for the amount that was erroneously charged to your credit card.
However, we are currently experiencing another technical problem and we are unable to take these actions at this time. Rest assured we are investigating this situation and our technical team is working as quickly as possible to resolve this issue.
Once this has been resolved, we will then be able to take the appropriate actions regarding your order.
We appreciate your business and hope that you will give us another chance to prove the quality of our service to you.
Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.
Please let us know if this e-mail resolved your question:

I have similar problem with my $25 gift certificate I got from using accumulating 2500 points on my Amazon.com VISA card. I used it on my Indiana Jones Trilogy DVD preorder. My order for LoTR-TTT order from 8/2 is not showing the $10 gc that was applied, but for the order I just placed last night for T3 and PotC still show the $20 gc I just used. This leads me to the conclusion that their system is fixed, but all of our original GCs are gone.
After reading through the thread, my impression is that emailing them at this point in time will accomplish nothing. My official game plan will be as follows: If I am overcharged, I will notify them the day after LOTR ships with the statement that if $XX is not credited back to my card within a week, I will be forced to dispute the charges with my CC. No need to give them any leeway after seeing how they have handled everyone else's problems.

It usually is some time after the orders are placed that they drop off. I too have a more recent order with the GCs still showing on it, but seeing as how the GCs don't seem to disappear until about a week or two before they ship out (at least from my past experience) it might not mean anything.
This isn't just a recent problem with Amazon. It is an old and reocurring one. I would be surprised if they have fixed the problem this quickly, or even if they are actually, actively trying to for that matter.

Well, I finally got some type of (useful) response:
Thank you for contacting us at Amazon.com.
After researching your account, I have learned that a technical problem is preventing your gift certificate funds and your $15.00 promotional certificate from properly applying to order ##########. Please be assured we have confirmed that only $14.68 should be charged to your credit card.
As soon as we are able to, we will write back with a resolution as I have forwarded this information to the correct department for research. <---Now correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he just finish the research? :brickwl:
Something is better than nothing I suppose. Anyway, I'll wait until my order ships to see if it's charged correct. Otherwise I'll dispute the charge.

Add me to the list of disappearing GCs. Lost $10 on my Looney and Sopranos sets. Its getting to be too much hassle to order from Amazon. 2 months ago the STL was going away.

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this.
I had a $100 GC I used on 3 preorders with STL. Since then, one preorder has disappeared, one is on hold and one is yet to come. When I called to ask what the hold up was, they said it was a technical problem.
BUT WHY ARE THEY MAKING ME WAIT???
I asked if they could just cancel the orders, let me order again and credit me $100--nope, can't do it. But it's not MY fault. This is rediculous. The ONLY thing I can do, she said, is wait.
So I'm the only guy on my block without The Matrix Reloaded. :(

A week after I called and I'm still waiting for Amazon to refund me for the missing GC on my Indy box set. Earlier this week I received one those after researching your account and technical problem emails with promises of issuing a refund soon. But nothing yet.
For those with missing GCs I would continue to check your accounts because my missing GC reappeared mysteriously yesterday. I found it when I placed a new order and there was a $10 credit waiting to be applied to the order total. I don't know if Amazon is still going to issue me a refund but I don't really care as much if the GC sticks to the new order.

I received another form letter from Amazon about my $100 GC that is not working. So now I have 5 DVDs I ordered with STL that have not shipped and are being cancelled one-by-one. This is really ticking me off.
What really upsets me is that there's no reason I see that they can't just cancel the GC and apply a new one. Or credit my account. Instead, every time I ask about it, they keep sending me the same email that says it'll be fixed in 2-3 days. GRRRRR!!!!

after several emails this thing is just about over-
Greetings from Amazon.com.
First, allow me to apologize for the delay in responding to your e-
mail inquiry. Please be assured that we have been reviewing this
situation.
After further research of the gift certificates with the claim codes
QRQU-AUPYFJ-KA and LEEU-5S7Y-93SS, I have found they qualify for
an extension. We are aware that a few states have developed
different legal guidelines for gift certificates and we are happy to
comply.
I have extended your gift certificates for a total of $31.53
indefinitely so that you will be able to use the funds at any point
in the future.
However, we are unable to extend the remaining funds of $8.42 from
the gift certificate with the claim code KCL7-XJJ-E38D. However,
as previously mentioned, our policy indicates that we do not honor
gift certificates once the expiration date has passed.
I hope this solution is satisfactory. Thank you for shopping at
Amazon.com.
Best regards,
Mandi G.

I hear you JuryDuty! I had my Indiana Jones order disappear. I had emailed amazon a couple of times. The last email from them was that they were looking into the situation and they would try to resolve the issue in 3-5 days. So, I wait and I guess them deleting my order is how they are resolving the issue! I called them only to have the CSR say he will have to email another department to look into the problem. Now my Finding Nemo order is messed up and will probably get dropped off soon as well as my Lord of the Rings: Two Towers later this month. I guess we'll be having threads soon titled: "Remember when amazon had good customer support?" or "Remember when you could get an order specialist that actually could help you out?" :) Oh well, I guess this is a good time to work on our anger management huh? Here's hoping everyone's orders get fixed one way or another!

That's what I hate. They keey saying "it'll be fixed in 2-3 days" or "3-5 days." It has been several weeks for me now. The biggest problem is that deleting my order doesn't resolve it--because I'm still out $100!
I certainly hope they resolve this in a high-fashion manner. I've had great support in the past. I don't want to have to start turning elsewhere for my preorder purchases. Help, Amazon! :)

Just for the record, they cancelled ANOTHER of my preorders today because of that bad GC. Why don't they realize this is their fault and do something about it???

man...just to update this ongoing saga. I finally got back an email from the gc dept. and they said they were sorry my order was dropped. The guy re-instated my order and bumped it to 2nd day shipping free. I was feeling great and decided to go look at the order page at amazon.com. I get there and see that the order looks alright except that my gc funds have not been applied to the order. I clicked applied gc balance to order and whamo! It says I applied 0.00 funds to this order and the free shipping gets bumped. I am kinda mad at this and quickly call amazon.com. I get a CSR and she sees what's going on and quickly makes the shipping 0.00 again. I thank her and leave my order alone hoping all is well. Later that evening, I go over to see if my order will be shipping soon since the Indiana Jones boxset is available already and I get the dreaded "Payment revision required".
At this point I'm just scratching my head and thinking amazon system is really jacked up. I decide to just place a new order for the boxset and apply the gc funds that is showing in my account. Everything works okay! The new order is able to take my gc funds that the old order would not take so everything. The new order is exactly the same as my original order, ie. STL, free super saver shipping, etc. so the balance required was the same as my gc funds that had returned to my balance after the gc-dept ppl looked at my order. I quickly cancelled my original order that was having all kinds of issues and it now looks like I am okay with this particular order....now I just need to fix my other orders if possible... :)

quick note: do not cancel your order unless you have gotten one of those emails from the gc-dept. from amazon AND check your gc funds balance. If you cancel one of those orders where your gc is missing, the funds do not return to your balance. Just found that out myself as I was attempting to self-correct one of my problem orders -ptth-

Well, I think they finally got my order RIGHT! Now, I'll just wait and see what they charge when it ships.
FYI, they changed the price (ala CH) on one of the items to reflect the correction.

yup...looks like they are fixing orders now. My finding nemo order was fixed. They just reduced the price of the dvd by all the promotional gift certs I had applied and then applied my "missing" gc funds to it. I hope everyone gets their orders fixed. Even though it took a while, I'm still glad that amazon.com is taking care of these problems.

I have had all the GC's that were in my order dissapear again, I am not getting valid answers to questions I ask and I am being lied to when I ring Amazon.
I cant cancel my order as they have reduced the price of the dvd by the amount of gc's that went missing. but since they did that I used another Gc on the order - they said I could as the problem was fixed.
Now if I cancel I will only get back the last gc I used and none of the others as once the reduced the listing price the gc's are invalidated.
Who do I complain to in amazon when I am not getting answers?

My "Finding Nemo" order is still in no man's land right now.
Amazon is telling me that if I want it now, I need to pay for it using my credit card (order was originally paid for with GCs and a promo GC) and get credited later.
Otherwise, If I want to wait, in their words "Our developers are currently working hard to correct this error as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, I am unsure how long it will take to resolve this issue. Please know that this situation was the result of a technical error, and that in no way did we intend for this to happen."

This GC problem is nearly 8 weeks old by now - I find it very hard to believe that amazon cannot fix this. I am starting to think something very underhanded is going on with them. And each time I ring about an order or my GC balance dissapearing they deny all knowledge of it at the start of the phone call.
If it goes on much longer - I will NEVER shop with them again.

They still haven't refunded the $25 in lost gift certificates they promised me they would three weeks ago and now I lost another $25 gift certificate when I cancelled my preorder for the Donald Duck collection. I wonder how easy this will be to work out with Amazon. It hasn't expired so i know that's not the problem and usually this would have been very easily worked out, but given their recent problems, I smell nothing but trouble in getting that certificate back. :(

I'm coming upon about 7 weeks now with my $100 GC that is broken. I've lost 4 preorders because of it. This is really getting old...
I've gone ahead and reordered some of them through their competitor, just to be sure I get them. I hate it though that I'm missing my $100!

Amazon finally credited me for my lost $10 GC after over month of waiting. However it took a few phone calls and emails to finally get customer service to come through with a refund. At least I am glad my problem wasn't as bad as others reported happening to them with this situation.
