Movies with really stupid title songs...

There's nothing quite like a totally useless and stupid title song coming at you while the opening credits role. Two of my favorites:

THE BLOB - the original boasts that bouncy little ditty that actually sticks in your brain for a while.

THE LOST CONTINENT - (1968 Hammer Films) here's part of the review from stomptokyo.com:

We knew The Lost Continent was going to be a weird film from frame one. The first thing with which it assails us is a creepily upbeat torch song about the lost continent, set to a tune which is eerily similar to the theme from the Odd Couple TV series:

This forbidden sho-o-o-ore
that the sto-o-orm
has sent
to the Lost Continent...

Any other strange title songs that you remember?

The Green Slime (1968) has a great theme song.

Here's part of it.

Tom Jones belting out "Thunderball" has to be heard to be believed:
He always runs while others walk.
He acts while other men just talk.
He looks at this world, and wants it all,
So he strikes, like Thunderball.
He knows the meaning of success.
His needs are more, so he gives less.
They call him the winner who takes all.
And he strikes, like Thunderball.

Any woman he wants, he'll get.
He will break any heart without regret.
His days of asking are all gone.
His fight goes on and on and on.
But he thinks that the fight is worth it all.
So he strikes like Thunderball.
It's really a truly awful lyric.

Nyah, I think The Man with the Golden Gun is a bit more dreadful.

43% of all 80's comedies.

I think Weekend at Bernie's is the one I am thinking of. Sort of upbeat wuss rock-pop.

I'd say more like 78%. 80's music just doesn't age well. I'm thinking that'll be the case with 2000 music also in a couple decades (think "Hero" from Spider-man).

That's unfair...

* steps into flame-proof shield unit *

Spider-man wasn't any good to begin with.

* runs away, cackling *

While i really dislike Madonna's theme, the "golden gun" theme is the worst ever.

I LOVE that song, though it is completely wrong for the movie.
The Blob
by The Five Blobs

Beware of The Blob, it creeps
And leaps and glides and slides
Across the floor
Right through the door
And all around the wall
A splotch, a blotch
Be careful of The Blob
Hear it for yourself: http://kingtet.com/theblob.htm

Met David Prowse once, and he says they made up these lyrics on the set (of Empire Strikes Back):

Star Wars
Made Me A Fortune
Paid off my Morgage
Bought Me a Car

OK, not a movie, but Bonanza had words to the theme and it was sung only once, on the pilot episode. Easy to see why.

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/3611/lyrics.htm
(Little Joe) I've got a flair for women everywhere --
Bonanza!
(Hoss) Bonanza! (Barks and howls)
(All three) I'm not afraid of any pretty maid -- Bonanza!
Bonanza!
But when I give a kiss to any little miss
She'll learn a lot from me
(Ben) I'm not afraid of any pretty maid -- Bonanza!
(All three) Bonanza!
When I give a kiss to any little miss
She'll learn a lot from me
Hair of brown, hair of gold
I take what I see
We're not a one to saddle up and run -- Bonanza! Bonanza!
Any one of us who starts a little fuss
Knows he can count on me
One for four, four for one
This we guarantee
We got a right to pick a little fight -- Bonanza! Bonanza!
If anyone fights any one of us
He's gotta fight with me!
(On the linked page, also check out an alternative version Lorne Greene sang later.)

Well, that song wasn't actually in Spider-Man, so...

If there's a soundtrack that'll age terribly, look no further than Daredevil. or any other film that attempts to be "edgy" by using hard rock with rapping in it.

I think "Hero" was over the End Credits, wasn't it?

I would chime in with "My heart will go on" from Titanic...but that's another end-credit only song.

I agree. There's very little music from the 80's I still like. U2, REM, some punk stuff, and that's about it.

For the topic at hand, Die Another Day was the first that sprung to mind.

Christ on a bike. You're right. Just checked my DVD. I remembered though, people bitching that the film wasn't actually in the film - guess they were even more wrong than I.

Now I like the film less.
