I went shopping today...

I had $51.XX in MSN dollars that expired this month, so I got the following at EBGames for $3.XX out of pocket (total including shipping and tax was $54.XX):

Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX)
Final Fantasy VII (PSX)
Dark Cloud (PS2)
ICO (PS2)
Summoner (PS2)

Yeah, they're used, but I had to use the money and they still play

Anyone have any of those games? Reviews? Isn't FFVII the one lauded as being the best ever in the history of RPGs? I thought it would sell for a lot more (they were all in the $11-$13 range except for Summoner which was ~$8).

Well it's debatable whether FFVII is the best in the series. I personally prefer 3(6), but it was probably the game that got the most people into Japanese style RPG's over here. And the reason it doesn't cost that much is because it's not exactly rare.

Sounds like your EBgames has a lot better prices than the ones around here. FF VII is pretty good, but out of the ones I've played I would say that 2 and 3 on the SNES and X are better. I haven't played VIII or IX.

I havent played any of the FF's before FF7. I played 7,8,9,10 and to me FF7, is the best FF and the best RPG I played. A few days ago, I picked up FF Origins (PSX) which contains FF1 and FF2 but have not tried it yet.

Also, if you want good RPG's, check out Grandia 2, I own it and its awsome .

ICO is one of my favorite games of all time. I hope a sepuel comes out sometime. The only problem is it's kinda short, but it's worth multiple plays.

FF 7 is not the best FF game but it's second next to 3 (6). I'm playing through it again right now actually.

FF Tactics is great. If you like the GBA version you will love this one.

Dark Cloud was fun but I prefer it's sequel.

Never played Summoner.

FF 7 - A game I truly love. Takes a lot of heat here, but it's really cool. As an RPG fan, it's one you must play.

Dark Cloud - Not so good. If you don't like it though, don't let that dissuade you from getting DC 2, which is very, very good.

Ico - I hear that it's a fantastic game, but with no replay value. Maybe when you're done with it, you can loan it to a friend for a while.

Heh. I won't be playing Ico until I finish FFVII and FFT, so you can take a stab at it when I get it

FF7 has some of the most memorable characters out of the "modern" FF games. Some of the spells can get a bit ridiculous (quad-Supernova), but the Materia system and the story are pretty darn cool.

ICO was one of my favorite games. Very atmospheric. Sort of like Myst but without being completely boring. I liked the puzzle solving aspect too. Don't use an FAQ.

I would recommend Vagrant Story too if you can find it. Some of the best PS1 graphics and sound along with great gameplay.

Crap, that reminds me: I have some MSN bucks of my own to spend. I hope it's not too late.

I loved FF7. FF3 (6 in japan) is still my favorite. But FF7 was great. Great story, great graphics, lots to do (i.e. tons of sidequests, many of which are super hard and meant to be done after beating the game and leveling up a lot).

A lot just hate it, because it was the beginning for story driven games with a lot of cutscenes. I like this innovation, as well as the story is good, and there's still great gameplay involved, others hate it.

Here's one of the blurry screenshots making the rounds... it's still up for debate at the moment - is this really "NICO" the sequel to "ICO"? Hmmm... Sony has no official word right now as far as I know...

I hated FF7, but your other choice of games are fine!
