SSX3 Looks Great But. . .

I've had this game on my watch list at IGN for some time. The game looks sweet except for one thing. The person playing the game during the videos SUCKS!

I've watched all the vids and this person never pulls off a great trick because as soon as the meter fills they bail. They are trying some wild trick off a 2 foot snow bank. I've gotten to the point where I yell at the footage as it plays because I can't believe their lack of skill ( or is that skillz )

I really want to see an uber trick.

I've also been trying to order this game at the EA store with my 15.00 birthday coupon they sent me. It won't let me use the coupon because this game has free shipping. I've e-mailed them a ton of time and haven't gotten a bit of help. So what do I get today? Another 15.00 coupon from their newsletter and luckily this one works.

You're right... that guy really sucks!

The "Felix the House Cat" (shudder) video is particularly bad - he cracks into walls, misses ramps, sonny bonos a couple of trees and bails out the second he fills his boost meter... urgh... he's almost as bad as me...

I don't know if this has been brought up before... but one thing that really stood out was the lack of the "RUN DMC - Tricky" track when you fill your meter... hmmm... it loses something without it.

I played the demo in the new Playstation magazine. SSX Tricky was fun but SSX3 is awful. The guy in the video will be you. The contols are off, the mountain has terrible blind spots and physics don't exist. I fell off a kicker, tumbled of the cliff, hit a tree upside down, flipped a couple times and the fell some more. I was screaming "long live 1080" as I fell...

I loved Tricky but hated the SSX3 demo. It was too much like Amped which I didn't like at all.

Too much like Amped? Cool, now I'm interested.

I *hated* Amped. But I know a lot of people here really liked it. Unless something changes, check out SSX3 if you liked Amped. I don't know anything about 1080 though.

If it is anything like Amped I'm going to pass on the game. Guess I'll rent it and see.

Thanks for the input.

I just was looking at some Amped videos and it appears they are going more "Tricky" style this year. The snowboarders are doing flips with the board like kick flips. Not sure if this actually happens in real snowboarding.

Amped = Tony Hawk on snow. Amped 2 looks even better.

IGN now has a new video preview and in 5 minutes I don't think a single boarder falls. So they are either getting better or they fixed the problems.

My 15.00 coupon STILL isn't working but I might go ahead and risk getting it. I really enjoyed the second on and even if the controls will be different I don't think that will matter much since I'm going from playing it on the PS2 to playing the new one on the GC. The game screams wireless controller because I moved around like a madman when I played Tricky.

I watched a couple of the IGN movies yesterday and they looked more like the previous versions of SSX. The demo I played seemed a lot like Amped though.

Now we're all very confused.

Tricky was one of those games that finally kicked me over the edge to buy an Xbox last year. I've been looking forward to this, but I can say I'm not really excited at the moment. Don't know why..

Why? It was available on all three systems and apparently was best on the PS2, acording to many reviews.

Well, I didn't have ANY of the new systems.. I was eyeing the Xbox already for a few of it's exclusives, so being able to get Tricky and stop going to my friend's to play it was just a little *nudge nudge*..

I've played both PS2/Xbox versions A LOT, other than the controller difference there's no real difference.

Oh, that makes sense. I thought you started with a GC.
It's a fun game, no question. Since it dropped to $19.99 so fast though (like 3 or 4 months IIRC), I'll give SSX 3 a pass for now; there's too much else to buy.

Amped 2 sounds fun on Live. Basically, it's like going to a ski resort. Everyone's out there doing their own thing on the mountain. I saw in the EA ad that SSX is online on the PS2. Anyone know much about its online features?

That's one of the reasons I lost a little excitement for SSX3, hearing that Amped 2 would be Live enabled. If the 2 are close in terms of FUN, Amped 2 will probably be my buy, I'll only get SSX3 if it tops Amped 2 on fun factor.

I hated Amped so these comparisons are starting to worry me.

I'd also rather have 4 controller ports on the GC than the online aspect of the PS2. I love online games but not on the PS2. I'd go for the XBOX version but my one controller crapped out and after buying 10 controllers for all my systems I'll just buy the Cube version.
