For those of you who wanted Jurassic Park 1 and 3, but not 2, there will be a new set released on October 28 that is just right for you!

Seriously though, the price is nice, just over $18 at both DDD and Amazon. Per the photos, it will be the Collectors Edition of 1 & 3, and per Amazon both are in widescreen.

I will be picking this one up, my 5 year old loves Jurassic Park and I'm tired of renting them all of the time ($0.50 rentals).

There are over at least 12 different versions of the movie already out, including packages. JP, JP CE, JP DTS, JP 1, 2, & 3, JP 1& 2, (and now JP 1 & 3 only), etc etc etc. And remember, Jurassic Park 4 will be coming out sometime.

Alright! This'll go great with my Child's Play set, and my The Substitute DVD.

And it will go great with my special edition box set of Star Trek:The Motion Picture, Star Trek III and Star Trek V. (because the guy at the video store told me that the odd numbered Trek films are the best ones).

Wow, there are people that actually like the third one. I thought it made The Lost World look like a masterpiece. Seriously, the movie is like ninety-something minutes and feels like its almost 3 hours. I kid you not. Well, to each their own, I guess. Kinda weird that they're releasing the set this way. I have all 3 movies (the third only to complete the collection and cuz, well, I like dinosaurs :D). I also have the bonus disc, but I do wish I had the box for the set. Same with The Crow set.

Also, there's only the two different versions of Jurassic Park (three if you count a widescreen and full screen version). The Collector's Edition was the original DVD release. Your post makes it sound like they released it barebones first, then with extras, which is not the case.

I am one of the few people who likes 3 better than 2, that whole gymnastic supergirl thing was way toooo cheesey over the top Spielbergery...
But this set is ridiculous, who wants parts 1 and 3 of anything?

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is maligned by many, I wouldn't be too surprised if a lot of people just bought only Raiders and Last Crusade if they had the chance.

Count me in as another who prefers JP3 over Lost World, although they're both nothing but a shadow of the original JP.

That's funny, I had the opposite reaction. It's about 80 minutes and it feels like about 45 minutes. It really seems like an imcomplete movie to me. Once they get to the island, it's go go go, and then suddenly: THE END.

I have all three, including DD and DTS versions of the first two. I can't imagine ever needing to buy these flicks again, ever, amen.

Yeah, but the CEs of JP !&II each had a variety of different versions released simultaneously: WS DTS, WS DD, FF DTS, FFDD. Plus the gift set.

You took the words right out of my mouth . . . WAY back in the day, I was really happy that you could buy Indiana Jones 1 and 3 seperate from the set. Since then my movie tastes have improved and I've grown to appreciate ToD for what what it is (definitely a different kind of movie that RotLA and TLC, but still valuable part of the series), and am looking forward to getting the complete set.

As for Jurassic Park, personally, when I eventually get them, I'm gonna have to go with the full set . . . I need completion!! :D Same reason I'll get the Alien Quadrilogy . . . honestly, who needs anything but Alien and Aliens? :)

Slight change in topic (sorry) . . . what's the word on the 4th Indiana Jones movie? Are they still planning on making it?

Quite a different set of circumstances since Temple of Doom is a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. So technically you don't NEED to watch it to enjoy the other two.

There were no FF DTS versions of the first two.

I'm still holding out hope that 1 and 2 will be reissued in Ultimate Editions with the DD and DTS tracks and all extras on a second disc.

The one nice thing about the new set is the substantial price drop. JP1 and JP3 are ~ $27 if purchased individually from DDD, now you can get both for $19 (street date of Oct. 28), and the price is actually a little cheaper at Amazon, though you need a $25 purchase to get free shipping (I have a $50 gift card I need to use or lose by the end of October, so this will work out nice).

Jurassic Park 2: Lost World sells for just under $13 on DDD, and can also be picked up for $12.99 at Circuit City through September 27.

And regarding Jurassic Park 4 (due for release in 2005), there was a thread about that a few months ago. The first draft of the script has been written. Per Producer Kathleen Kennedy, "Let's just say it takes place someplace else. It will not be green. We will not go back to the jungle".

Also, Spielburg was interested in Keira Knightley, she was in “Bend it Like Beckham”.

Now for the rumors:

Per Face/Off: Spielberg is not directing. If you want to know the latest rumor for JP4, here it is...:
.
.
.
.
.
.
The cloning process for dinosaurs cloned a disease that's back in full force and wiping out humans. Not sure if this is even real, since I read it on the internet, but I don't know where the dinosaurs would fit in.

Per El-Kabong:

I remember hearing the apocalypse storyline when III was deep in pre-production. They had missed some dinos on the boat in San Diego that had gotten loose and bred like rabbits. The movie took place 20 or 30 years from 'now', Humanity was more or less on the ropes and the Dinos were in control.

Kind of Reign of Fire-ish, now that I think about it. It seems a cool enough concept - hell, I'd pay 8 bucks to see it!

Actually, there are three different versions:

FF JP CE
WS JP CE(with all the extras)
WS JP DTS(with only a few of the extras)

Isn't that what he meant when he said "there's only the two different versions of Jurassic Park (three if you count a widescreen and full screen version)"?

To be fair, these aren't new editions- they are just a DVD 2 Pack repricing. You know the 2 packs you find at costco and best buy, etc.
