I can't believe I like the Hillary Duff song.
That song "So Yesterday" is so damn catchy! I hate teen pop but I find this song in my head a lot lately and I'm humming it alot. Why the hell do I like this????

I should hate this album [Review of Hilary Duff]
People often make the mistake of judging a singer by how long they can sing a note, how high they can go on the scale, or how "real" they seem, especially teens. Singers like Christina Aguilera and Mairah Carey are often idolized for their over done notes. And every singer who auditions for "American Idol" or whatever talent show is popular at the moment, is always compared to Whitney Houston or Stevie Wonder.
To be honest, I don't like Hilary Duff. She's not that great an acress or vocalist, but this album has a certain style that most album by her counterparts lack. While most compare this album directly to early Britney Spears and the [who knows why] popular Avril Lavigne, just because of the producers and styles seen on the CD,there are inflections and mannerisms in Hilary's airy voice that set it apart from those "artists" The songs have a youth, an energy, and optimism most English artists lack.
Beyond that, the lyrics seem honest, almost as if they were all written by Hilary. They sound like the dreams, desires, and musings of a 16 year old girl. There is no overbearing sexuality here, no intense desire to be different, just an incredible sense of self identity and purpose. More than anything, the lyrics are full of illusion, magic, and cheer that isn't very common in teens. One thing I've noticed in Hilary Duff's younger fans is that they don't try to dress sexy or be some sort of rebel, they're just really happy, bubbly kids
As for the actual songs, "Anywhere But Here", "Come Clean", "Little Voice", "Why Not", and "So Yesterday" stand out. Hilary did help with the lyrics, writing lots of them, such as "Anywhere But Here", "Inner Strength", and "Metamorphosis". Some songs do suffer from a similarity to Avril Lavigne, and some sound like early Mandy Moore [though early Mandy Moore is 1000X better than current Mandy Moore] , but it is still amazing. Hilary really, really, can't sing, yet she was able to release a decent album that is not grating to listen to. And for boring afternoons, it's just perfect background music, doesn't require much time or effort to listen to.
I was quite surprised by the album. What I liked most, however, was that out of all top 40 albums out, this is the one that has the most dance/pop influence. It's not trying to be rock, or R&B, or hip hop, like past teen queens and boy bands. It's just being itself, girly, cute, happy, and sweet. If you like dance pop, pop, or Hilary, then this album is not that bad, you'll probably like it.
Who knows, maybe after vocal lessons, more experience, and a loss of the Lizzie stigma, Hilary might be a great dance pop artist.

Don't know much about your rating system or the entire cd, but I can tell you than on a recent 3 day sabbatical from my normal routine that MTV pounded the first single so much on their channel that I can actually say I like the song.
Doesn't hurt that she is something nice to look at, also.

I've said for years a lot of these teen stars actually have some talent, but they're being held back by crappy material and production. I guess this kind of proves the point.

Hillary Duff for President !!!
This girl rocks. Does anyone have the amazing 'Metamorphosis' album? Its so cool. I mean, even Madonna couldnt come up with such a brill CD if she hired every producer in the world. Does anyone here have it, and what do you think? Also, is it a sin to find her very very hot? I mean, I like her music, but I like her videos even more. I mean this all in an innocent way.
