Anything Else Reviews here ;)
This movie is the usual Woody film dull with a few funny bits.
However, for those Christina Ricci fans, in the first 20 minutes there's a scene... mature
Personally, I think Woody purposely put that there to keep me watching this flick.

So if we are Allen fans this would be considered really good?

Cool. I like most of his stuff, but I am not a Allen-phile. My wife likes Biggs and Ricci so we may have to see this one.

I haven't seen any promos for this movie (US) and am surprised that the movie is out. I will be going to see it tonight with my girl. Also just noted is that the studio completely concealed the fact that Allen stars in the movie as well. There was absolutely no shot or mention of him appearing in the film in the trailer I downloaded a month ago.
Way to go Dreamworks!

the ads make it seem like it's just biggs and ricci... it's probably not (haven't seen it) - I imagine, they're just trying to make it look like some teenage sex comedy and then they'll bait and switch and put Allen in there half the movie.

I did see the movie last night and walked away from it somewhat let down. I just didn't find it to be anything fresh or different from what he's done before. I thought Jason Biggs did a fine job. I thought during the scene where
, he appeared to be almost too fragile and weak to be doing that. The one memorable line from the movie (for me) is captured in my signature. Also, I thought his character's identity of being a survivalist/gun proponent just didn't ring true. He really didn't appear to really know how to even use a rifle. IMO, I think that he should stick to writing and directing, and not appear in his movies. He is almost becoming a chariacture or parody of himself. Perhaps I'll feel differently about the movie after more viewings, but I just didn't feel that this movie was anything different.

I enjoyed it. Not up to his 70's peaks, but few directors can say they've ever been that good. Certainly an improvement over his last few films. It had some dry spots and scenes without payoffs, but also some huge laughs. Also, as a twentysomething, I was impressed that a 70-year-old picked up on the concerns of modern young people so accurately, and I was happy that he gave credit to some youngsters for being literate.

I saw it Sunday afternoon, and I generally liked the movie. It starts off really fresh and funny, but I think it wears off after a while. I think I need to see it again, and would like to as well to pick up on everything as there is a lot of a great dialogue with articulate words, which I thought was great. Biggs and Ricci were funny and vibrant as their characters. Woody Allen was also great as side character instead of the lead.
I was hoping "Anything Else" was really going to be better then his last two, which I liked anyway, but "Anything Else" just edges past of being better than his last two. It also really sucks that Woody Allen movies do so bad at the box office, I mean no one seems to give them a chance. *** out of ****

I really liked it.
Allen's character was pretty tricky. He used himself pretty well here. He played a great devil's advocate.
Biggs surprised me. Sure he was doing the woody allen imitation thing, but that's mostly because of the dialogue and the character. Well done.
Ricci was ok. She just needs to go back to the way she use to look. The skinny thing is just not as sexy.
When allen hit the thug's car, It was a great moment. Something I've been waiting to see for a long time. It was meant to be a contrast to the characters he's played for years. All talk, no action. Great scene.
It was nice to see a film with long takes and so much dialogue.
I missed that. Allen reminds us that there is intelligence left and it works well on the screen.
Not every scene is meant to be rolling in the aisles funny and sometimes the best comedy is reading between the lines.
While he'll never be able to live up to the creative successes and high regard of annie hall, manhattan or hannah and his sisters, this is still a return to form for the woodman.
