The main difference between the Microsoft warranty and an in-store warranty is that with Microsoft they will try to salvage your hard drive so you don't lose all your saves.

Personally, I don't think it's worth it, even leaving the shipping costs out of the equation. It's a $50 gamble that in the next two years your $150 Xbox (and make no mistake, that's what they'll run soon) will break. It's like spending $10,000 to insure your $30.000 car for two years. IMO that's just way too high. I bit the bullet and got the BB plan since it was only $25 and will give my purchase price if I have any problems with the system. I guess it's just a calculated risk, but I doubt that your game saves are so important that it would really be worth it if you don't have money to burn.

I'm curious. How do you dial in the picture using a Home Theater Disc?

tommy, how did you set your Xbox up with your TV? Did you get an Advanced AV pack yet? If not, don't bother with anything else.

Well, you needed the Advanced AV pack to run S-video. Did you buy a seperate AV pack ($20)? For your theater system, I'd imagine you'd prefer the High Def AV pack (also $20). If you're hooking it to the TV with the cables that came with the Xbox, then you're just using RCA plugs and it probably looks like

Personally, I think the home theater calibration discs are bad for everything but movies. Movies have a softer and darker feel than games and TV programs, and the disks are set up to make them look the best.
Thus, IMO, the settings begot with these disks are too soft and dark for games and TV.
My TV has four different picture settings I can switch through, so I set one using AVIA, and then calibrated another to my tastes for TV and games.

If you are serious about wanting to ask that....
If you just rent occasionally, local mom and pop places are usually cheaper than the chains.
If you rent a lot, go to blockbuster and check out the selection at your local store. If it's good, you can get the game freedom pass (pretty sure it's still going on anyway) where you can rent as many games as you want (only 2 at a time tough I believe) for $19.99/month plus tax.
