the most of the magazines that I've read say that six feet under wins best drama, sex and the city or friends for comedy series, an alias sweep in the acting catagories (actress, supporting actor, and supporting actress), Keifer Sutherland for actor.

who will win and who you want to win

actually, I think that since this is the emmy's afterall, either, six feet under, west wing, or the sopranos are likley to win the majority of awards (and Chickless will get best actor)

Curb won't win...although it should. I dont think the Emmy's will accept an HBO comedy (or have they in the past?)

why was Cheryl Hines nominated? i never saw anything special about her acting.

I think Keifer or Chiklis should get the best actor nom. probably Chiklis

Whom I think will win, whom I want to win, and who should win are three different things. That's going to take some thought.

Probably because she's nothing short of brilliant playing against Larry's antics.

With the format of the show being fairly unscripted, I wonder just how much of her performance is containing her laughter.

Agreed. What I love about Curb Your Enthusiasm is how much acting is done through facial expressions(and without the benefit of canned laughter), and Cheryl is one of the best at this.

maybe its cuz i dont like her character. also, i'm not really sure if she's acting like that of if the actress is really like that. For example, i was telling my friend how i thought larry and her had not chemistry. He said that Larry is probably like that and has no chemistry with his real wife either. So maybe Cheryl is acting like that. who knows...

Well, one thing that I'm sure I can expect is to see The Sopranos sweep everything. I thought it was a good season, but certainly not their best, and not better than a lot of what else is nominated.

I'd love to see Mike Chiklis get another Best Dramatic Actor trophy, but James Gandolfini all but has it locked up. I'd love to see Curb Your Enthusiasm win Best Comedy, but I'm sure Friends will win. I'd also like to see Six Feet Under win Best Drama, but again The Sopranos all but have it locked up. The only other category that I care about is Supporting Dramatic Actor which I'd love to see Victor Garber win, but I believe that Joe Pantoliano will win.

Re: the official 2003 Emmy awards predictions and thoughts thread

What should win (ignoring irrelevant stuff like previous wins and sentimental favorites):

Drama: Six Feet Under
Lead Actress Drama Series: Edie Falco - The Sopranos
Lead Actor Drama Series: Peter Krause- Six Feet Under
Comedy Series: Curb Your Enthusiasm
Lead Actor Comedy Series: Tony Shalhoub - Monk
Lead Actress Comedy Series: Sarah Jessica Parker - Sex & The City
Reality Competition Program: Survivor: The Amazon
Miniseries: Hitler: The Rise of Evil
Made For TV Movie: Live From Baghdad
Supporting Actor in a Comedy: John C. McGinley - Scrubs
Supporting Actor in a Drama: Bradley Whitford - The West Wing
Supporting Actress in a Comedy: Cynthia Nixon - Sex and the City
Supporting Actress in a Drama: Lena Olin - Alias (NOTE: didn't see Judging Amy this season)

Were I to get sentimental, those picks would likely be different (and I'd express some serious outrage over once again ignoring Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Sarah Michelle Gellar, as well as Neal McDonough among others). Some of the categories are complete no-brainers (they should just rename it the Edie Falco Award), and some are complete toss-ups (each of the 5 Lead Actor noms is equally valid). Should be interesting.

Of course I really want Frances Conroy to win for a make up for last year (Allison Janney...i don't think so at least not for the lead category). Ruth is my favorite character on Six Feet Under, but what I fear is that she was only given one "big" storyline this past season (with Kathy Bates) and Edie Falco (who all but has it locked) was just phenomenal in the season finale of The Sopranos.

And I would really choose no one in the supporting actor drama competition, because I really wanted Neal McDonough to be nominated from Boomtown. I believe if he were nominated and submitted "The David McNorris Show" and "Blackout" he could have had a very good chance. And Richard Schiff wasn't even nominated? IMO - he makes The West Wing watchable for me.

The biggest I want to see from the Emmys is to change "it" up a little".

If any of the above win, I'd be more than happy... I'm sure HBO will really clean house, but any awards that Malcolm, 24 and Alias can manage are well deserved IMO...of course, Sorpanos, Curb and 6'Under are three of the best on TV, so I won't be too ticked at any awards they cart home...I'm really looking forward to sunday night!

This isn't normally an important category to me, but as I've been watching season one of Alias, I really thought Victor Garber was amazing.

I hope that he gets an Emmy.
