We'll take some spam, but not others

This really isn't a big deal, but whatever.

I make a really stupid thread, I admit, but I don't see why it should be closed. See:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=318244

Okay, it's borderline spam. True that. But so are fifty other threads in the "Other" forum. Someone was talking about finding a twenty dollar bill followed by fifty banana smilies.

Just wondering if there is a reason one gets closed and the other stays open (playing favorites or forum status being non-options, naturally).

I woulda' PM'ed a mod this, but it appears that PM'ing has been turned off by the admins. So it goes.

I think the word you're looking for is "pad" not "spam."

Also, you can still email the mods. And that is the preferred method of handling these situations.

Finally, the moderators can't read all the threads on the forum, so just because your thread was closed while another was left open doesn't necessarily have anything to do with favoritism. If you think another thread should have been treated the same way yours was, just use the report this post to a moderator feature and let them know.

In case you're wondering, PMing is turned off, but what does work is the "Report this post" feature, which is in the bottom right hand corner of every post.

Thanks, I'll remember to email rather than creating a topic in the future.

But I'm not going to go around "reporting posts." I mean, it really isn't that big of a deal.

Just wondering, and my questions have been answered.

Regards.

Oh, and just for your personal information, I was serious about the thread. "Machinery" is a fun word to type.

Machinery...machinery...it's ok, I guess.

I think what might bear pointing out is that this is a discussion forum, and while I'm sure there are many who might agree with you, I think it's fair to say that this isn't a topic that's likely to generate a lot of discussion, as opposed to people posting things like...

mom

toot toot

corrosion

In regards to the "I found $20" thread. There were two other threads, "I lost $20" and "Can I Borrow $20" that I closed. Since the "I found $20" thread came first, I decided to leave it as one really stupid thread. Closing them all might have caused a thread like this one, probably with a mention about something called "fun" leaving "the forum". I figured, hey, one really stupid thread can't hurt. Then there was the fun words to type thread. I tossed in in the same category as the other really stupid threads, and closed it. Blade's reasoning applies as well.

I agree that the thread should have been closed, but this ^ reason isn't very good, IMHO. You couldn't think of a better reason?

Um, you left out the part that said "Blade's reasoning applies as well." I didn't feel the need to basically retype it. The official reason was because it was not a discussion thread, and more of a word association type padfest thread. At least there could be some discussion of found money in the "I found $20" thread.

Now I'm confused...

Are we supposed to type it in all-caps for full effect, or not?

Machinery

Each feels different, but I don't know which is more fun...

Boo! The Labyrinth version is much more fun than "The Bachelor & The Bobby-Soxer" version. Mainly because you imagine while doing it.

Sorry, I'm rambling. ... and padding? Maybe
