Penelope Cruz in Vanilla Sky

I thought she was okay. I actually bought her interaction with Cruise in Vanilla Sky more so than her and the male lead in the Spanish original.

Really? What was so bad about her in Vanilla Sky? I agree I didn't buy her character in Open Your Eyes. But I loved her in Vanilla Sky.

I found her incredibly irritating and that "the pleasure of sophia" line was both terribly written and delivered.

I liked Vanilla Sky, and I thought Penelope was fine in it. She had great chemistry with Tom, and you can't go wrong with Jason Lee.

Actually, this was the only movie of hers where I could tolerate her presence. She usually makes me cringe whenever I see her.

I like her - I don't see what's wrong with her. I also preferred her in Open Your Eyes more than in Vanilla Sky - but I think that's cuz I found Tom to be annoying as hell.

I didn't particularly like <b>Vanilla Sky</b>, in large part because it was too long and obvious and continued to beat home its point long after it was clear, but I had no problems with any of the performances, especially not Cruz's. I'm not overly fond of her as an actress -- could take it or leave it -- but I thought she did a pretty good job with the role and had good chemistry with the characters.

I love VS also, but what was cut? Like I said I love this movie, but it was a tad on the long side. But I would love to see an uncut version.

I watched Vanilla Sky recently and thought Cruz' performance was decent. Nothing extraordinary, but not bad either.

Now that I would love to see. His Almost Famous:Bootleg Cut was one of the rare instances(LOTR being another)where the extended edition is better than the theatrical cut.

Sorry, guys, I read the re-release thread wrong. One of the featurettes is being expanded to 60-90 minutes, not the movie.

From the re-release thread:

From CameronCroweOnline: "…The other featurette "Hitting It Hard" is a 9 1/2 minute look at Cameron's world wide press tour (with Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz). The big news here is that they are also working on a longer version of this (60 - 90 minutes) which should hopefully see a release in a year or so. There was a very short window for the gang to cull everything they wanted for the DVD and it just couldn't happen. With a May 21st release, they really only had a few months to get it ready, so we can look forward to a separate DVD release of additional things (such as the longer "Hitting It Hard", deleted scenes, etc.) ala The Matrix Revisited or possibly in a Super Duper 2 Disc Special Edition (like the Untitled DVD)."

I saw both Open Your Eyes and Vanilla Sky, and think she did a good job in both movies. She played different role in the two movies. So it's not as easy to compare them.

I do not know what you are talking about not liking Penelope. She is a good actress and I like her part on Vanilla Sky. However, I do think that is does better in Spanish films than in American films. You can say I like the stories and her roles better in most of the Spanish films I have seen

This role, in both Open Your Eyes and Vanilla Sky, is the only thing I have ever really liked Penelope Cruz in. So either it's the part she was born to play, or nobody could have survived Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

Chuck Klosterman said something in Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs about how Penelope is so adorable in this movie it will have you wondering "Why is Tom Cruise wasting his time with a hosebag like Cameron Diaz?"

Vanilla Sky was where I saw Penelope Cruz for the first time. One of my friend sarcastically said that she was over-ratedly beautiful, but I said she was beautiful indeed. And she is cute even with her so-called English tongue.
