Hmmm...how about home runs from Nomar and A-Rod.
Yep, that'll do it.

Going to the Big O tonight! Friend of mine was given two "box" tickets right behind home plate and asked if I wanted to go. Haven't been there forever so what the heck. They say you can smell the catcher's farts from those seats. :)

sad, but true. :(

Verducci is pretty consistent at writing good stuff (that's probably why he works for SI ;) ).

The White Sox so have to win this series it's not even funny. I'm rooting for Loiza's 20th win (woo hoo!)

I think as long as the sox take 2 out of 3, they'll be ok to win out the division. that would give them a .5 game lead leaving Minnesota. I then think they'll do the same record wise the remaining games, even though the twins have an easier schedule.

If the sox do make the playoffs, well same goes for minnesota really, whoever makes is gonna be rdy to play some solid ball, where very game counts.

Go Phillies! ;) 5 - 0 in the 5th against the Marlins. They need to win this series.

Oh my goodness Loaiza can't find the strike zone tonight! He walked the bases loaded in the 1st and had the bases loaded again in the 2nd. It's a freaking miracle the Twinkies have only scored 4 runs.

If Loaiza starts to tank you can stick a fork in the Sox; they're done.

king and wright work to give up a run in the 8th.. and allow runners at the corners..
good thing cunnane came in to shut the door

and i see that javy started tonight, even though maddux is pitching
i guess greg wanted every advantage possible, to get the win

 You believe in this Yankee team too much. This recent winning streak are of sucky team like the Tigers, Devil Rays and Orioles. They were getting their butts clean by the White Sox and Red Sox before that.

yep.. i jinxed em
maddux did his job.. pitched 7 scoreless innings
left with a 4 run lead
and cunnane allowed 3 runs in the 9th so the expos could tie it

maddux should get 2 more starts at least

That remains to be seen. Only one way to find out. Newsflash: The only thing that matters in the playoffs is how they play them then, not how they played them last weekend.

Albert Pujols becomes the first Cardinal to reach the 200 hit plateau since Willie "E.T." McGee did it in 1985.

He either leads the NL (or is tied for the lead) in: runs, hits, doubles, home runs and batting average. He is second in slugging % and OPS. behind Bonds, second in RBIs behind Preston Wilson, and third in OBP. behind Bonds and Todd Helton. (as of this morning)

Braves lose 5-4 in 10. Fantastic.

This team doesn't have a prayer in the playoffs with this bullpen.

True but they haven't done much this season except for April to proof otherwise.

The Braves bullpen is the reason why I am not at all enthused about the playoffs. The bullpen is atrocious without Smoltz in the mix. If I'm Maddux, I'm staying out there until the arm falls off, or the game is won/lost. No more of this late inning bullpen meltdown crap!

You should be happy - the Braves bullpen is leaps and bounds better than the Cards bullpen.

Me and my friend left the Big O after the 8th with the Braves up 4 -2. That'll teach us!

Sitting in the 1st row at ground level just to the right of home plate behind the "cage" which hosts what they call The Catchers Club was interesting though. Much different perspective than sitting higher up. The Expos on-deck circle was only about 10 feet away and it was interesting to watch the player's routine there. You also get better sound, i.e crack of the bat, pop of a fastball in the catcher's mit. Interesting experience except for leaving too early. :)

And I still predict the Braves won't make it past the 1st round. :)

You think because they lost the opener the sox changes of winning the division are over? If they win the next 2 they leave with a .5 game lead, and think that will be enough to win it all. I think they'll match records after this series..

If you mean this game I agree :( To bad the sox out hit them, and still couldn't score half as many runs. A few to many walks once again.

I wasn't aware that the regular season records had an effect on the outcome of a playoff series. Did they just institute that rule this year? Again, no other AL team is a concern. And the Braves are beginning to look like less of a concern.

I don't expect you to believe me or agree with me, but don't be surprised when it happens.
