What's the name of this movie?

Hi, I saw this movie probably about 20 years ago, but I can't remember the name, and my recollection of it isn't very good, but what I can remember of it is that there were these people in a town that were trying not to fall asleep or else they would turn into these plant-like creatures, kinda greenish and slimy. I think the movie was centered around this one guy and gal who took some sort of pill to stay awake. Anyway that's about all I remember about it. I saw this in the theater. Anyone know the name of this film? Thanks in advance.

It's either Invasion of the Body Snatchers or it's a rip-off of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Your description sounds like the '70s remake.

It can't be either 1956 or 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Because in both movies, the people are cloned. They are not turned into 'plant-like creatures, kinda greenish and slimy' as the original poster described. It must be another movie he's thinking of.

I disagree. Despite the minor discrepancies in the description, I think it's the '78 version of IotBS.

Weren't the 'clones' incubated in a plant-like pod?

Yes, and I recall Sutherland giving Brooke Adams a pill towards the end of the movie. A short time later he returns and finds her lying in the weeds by the harbour; her desiccated corpse crumbles in his embrace.
