September 12, 2003 -- THE Orlando Magic's Tracy McGrady claims 5 percent of NBA players are gay. While he doesn't include himself in that group, he's witnessed gay behavior, he tells Stuff magazine. Almost as upsetting to him, team management didn't consult him before signing power forward Juwan Howard. "I didn't have a clue about it, which I think is crazy, because I should know all the moves they make if I'm the key guy for this team. I'm thinking I should have been the first to know," says McGrady.

Wow, this is hilarious. Ol' T-Mac is letting that immaturity flow. I guess it was just a matter of time before he reminded everyone how young he really is.

Not that all people in their mid-20s are immature as I for one am not. It just takes rediculous statements like this last one by T-Mac to make people think we are all that immature.

I guess when you make that type $$jack$$, you can say what you will...

Way to go McGrady - apparently you are now the GM of the Magic - and the poster boy for NBA homophobia.

Really - what does it matter who is gay?

And the worse part - why should he be "consulted" over who the Magic sign. He gets paid to be part of a team. It's not "his" team. McGrady continues to stick his foot into his mouth, with his lack of leadership, what does this do for the team mentality?

That's what it seems like to me.

Tracy McGrady needs to shut his damn mouth - the NBA has bad enough ratings and publicity - they don't need this assclown constantly running his hole.

I can't believe he wanted to be consulted about the Howard signing.

Where is RaptorsFan? I know he is gonna be able to turn this into a pro-Vince Carter thread somehow.

Saying 5% of the NBA is gay when common consensus is that 10% of the general population is gay is homophobic? Where does that come from?

Also, any team that has a superstar would do well to consider the input of it's superstar before signing free agents. Whether it's petty or not, pissing off your superstar is not bright. Jordan, Magic, and Shaq have all heavily influenced the signings of many of their teamates, and even of their coaches. McGrady didn't think up these attitudes, he correctly correlated them with respect paid to previous NBA superstars.

I don't condone his behavior as exemplary, but it is not unique to him - it is the norm for today's prima donna athlete.

It also bears mentioning that the quotes were taken from an "interview" with that bastion of journalism, Stuff Magazine, which tends to ask bawdy (read: sophmoric) questions to titillate the intellect of their target "laddie" audience.......

I'm not doubting that the McGrady's claim of gay players is low considering the national average. I do question his choice to be the only player of mention to even bring up the subject. To my knowledge, I can't think of a higher profile NBA player that decided to discuss the topic of gay players in the league. With this in mind - how do you think the media will spin this? That was the source of my comment.

And while you are right about superstar players being counseled about potential additions, a team led by me-me-me Tracy McGrady shouldn't have to. Jordan, Magic & Shaq (to use your examples) made all the players around them better. McGrady has yet to show that he is anything other than a "chucker" who complains a whole lot because he's got the best stats on his team. Meanwhile, his team struggles as a whole and can't find a way to get to the championship.

I hear you on both counts. The first I can safely attribute to the tyical "Stuff Interview". They live for that shit. The second - I agree he hasn't won anything, but he is a complete stud, and I would say he is the most athletic player in the NBA (brainpower notwithstanding).
