Hard to believe there's no thread on this yet. Maybe I missed it. It should be a great fight. I think I'm going with Oscar in a 5th round KO.

Yeah, I think De La Hoya will win this time, because Mosley hasn't done too well in his last few fights. The first time around, Mosley was still undefeated, so he had that sort of invincible feeling. Anyway, should be one of the best fights of the year. I heard that scalpers are selling ringside seats for like $10k!

De La Hoya by KO-TKO-DQ 5-2

Mosley by Decision 7-2
Mosley by KO-TKO-DQ 5-1

Oscar's gonna fight a hella lot different than he did the last time these guys met (De La Hoya's gone 4-0 with Mayweather since that loss) but will Shane still have the handspeed to give him problems?
Not a safe bet, but I'll go with DLH by split dec.

Judging by what they always do, next weekend sometime.

I believe the MGM arena is in a separate building behind the main casino/hotel.
NP. SC just flashed a score saying Mosley 68-65 after 7, but that ESPN page has Oscar up 5 rounds to 1.

ESPN unofficial card has Mosley up 5 rounds to 3 after 8, maxboxing.com has it 7 rounds to 1. This doesn't look good for clean decision.

Yeah, it's tough for Oscar. The Trinidad fight and this one are very questionable. I'll give Mosley the first one, but not this one. To have such a great career, but end it with a couple suspect decisions over the last few years is unfortunate.

Did you feel like Mosley really landed that many more power punches? I really didn't think either of them hurt each other with any punches and it seemed like Oscar landed as many big punches as Mosley. I don't remember any point where either looked shaky. There were some good, solid combinations by both fighters, but I'd have a hard time agreeing that Mosley was landing all the power punches while Oscar sat back and 'boxed'.

A 3rd fight won't happen unless De La Hoya murders Mosely in the ring.
I understand Oscar's disbelief because he schooled Mosely in this fight the way he did with Trinidad. But of course, Vegas judges just love to throw the dice around in that town.
A travesty.

The scoring system in boxing has always been a joke. Boxing is the only major sport I know of that you don't know the score as you are competing. You have no idea how you are doing until somebody who has never done your sport judges it.

Ditto. I just watched the replay and scored the fight 115-113 for Mosley. You have to tune ouf the HBO clowns Lederman, Lampley, and Merchant. If you listen to them....it makes the fight seem like a Roy Jones blowout.

You also have to realize that Oscar was fighting moving "backwards" for the ENTIRE fight. That has to have some influence on the judges.

09-20-03, 10:03 PM
I had it 114-114. I wouldn't have given Mosley the 10th. It could have gone either way. The way those assclowns Merchant and Foreman acted was pretty bad. Repeatedly calling it an obvious and dominant win for De La Hoya was silly as half of those rounds could were toss-ups. Merchant's backtracking is sad too. In the original broadcast, he talked about how it was a huge blowout; now he says it was *close* and that's what he said all along. Whatever. De La Hoya had more overall punches and combinations; Mosley had more stunning punches, forced most of the action moving forward, and never seemed tired. Toss-up. I see no reason for outrage over this. I'm betting the judges were influenced in Mosley's favor by the fact that none of De La Hoya's flurries really seemed to phase him much; however, about 3 diffferent times, Mosley stunned De La Hoya for 10-15 seconds where he seemed shakey.

I don't know why I bother watching boxing anymore. I just caught the HBO fights tonight and just saw 2 ridiculous decisions (the De La Hoya replay and the Bird/Oquendo fight). I've watched a couple others over the past couple months where the decision was a total crock also. They might as well just flip a coin when the fight goes all 12 rounds as that would be more accurate than some of the judges decisions.

I mean, I can understand a close decision, but one judge had it 117-111 for Byrd. That's just ridiculous beyond belief.
