What!? Have you heard the Devin Townsend Band. Terria is one of my top ten favorite albums of all time. I'm going, but I don't even think I'll stay for Symphony X. Although I love Russell Allen on the Star One album.

Hmmm, well I can tell you what they aren't like. For some reason, they get thrown onto power metal bills a lot. They played Prog Power III last year and are now touring the US for the first time on this upcoming Symphony X tour. But they don't sound much like that style at all.

Have you heard of Strapping Young Lad? That is what Devin is most known for....that and being the singer on one of Steve Vai's records. His solo work is much more melodic though and really runs the spectrum, depending on the album.

He's got some mp3s at the link below. I'd go with anything from his latest, Accelerated Evolution, or his first two albums, Ocean Machine and Infinity, as a starting point.

is that the same strapping young lad that has been touring with Meshuggah?

b/c if so, while they did put on a good show, the two styles (SYL and Sy X) really don't go together all that well.

SYL is his other band. His solo work sounds nothing like it (except for the Physicist album).
