First Screens of Lionhead Studio's new game, Unity!!

Unity is a fabulous journey through a succession of beautiful abstract 3D spaces, with gameplay varying in tempo, from fast paced shooting to a more gentle progression. Audio effects will be closely linked with the games pace and tempo and will be an integral part of the playing experience.

From the screens and descriptions it looks to be some sort of music based shooter like Rez. The screens are really intriguing and I loved Rez so I'm looking forward to how this will turn out. Anyway else excited about this one?

I loved Rez too, but this looks more like a Windows screen saver than a game.

Nah, the Windows screensavers all suck. This looks like a nice third party screen saver .

I found out some more info behind these screens.

-The game is headed by Jeff Minter, the person behind Tempest 2000. I haven't played it but I heard it was pretty good.
-As you can tell these screens the game is still in early stages. They were shot sometime in spring.
-The movie below is from a techical demo with the producers showing how the music affects the visuals. They were leaked and not supposed to be released.
-Only very minimal gameplay aspects are in the screenshots and are in so far, they are still working on implementing the shooting aspects of the game.

I found some leaked movies of the game here. It looks crazy! They also have some newer screenshots and the game looks more developed. The game is still a ways off but its got me interested.

Maybe somethings wrong with my sound, but those videos sounded like crap. What kind of gameplay could it be - it just looked like the guy was waving his hands in front of a screen showing a Winamp visualization or something. Also - is this just for Gamecube? bleh... I'd like to see some music related games like Frequency and Amplitude on Xbox or Gamecube, but I have to give props to the PS2 controller for being better for these games.

edit - I am interested in this game... and if it plays just like Rez, then I'll be keeping my eye on it.

Yeah that movie was just a tech demo showing visuals, they said there wasn't any gameplay in that movie. Not sure what kind of gameplay they have in mind though. The game is more than a year away from being released. I'm hoping it'll be really improved by then.

Oh geez - if you match good gameplay with a music game that allows your own music - holy crap...

There's some new screens. You can see the phoenix (the ship you fly). Game is taking shape. I wish he'd get some direct captures instead of these webcam pics but I'm not complaining.

btw, if you haven't been reading jeff minter's blog you've been missing out, not on gaming stuff, but the guy is a fruit basket and a half. Some of his earlier posts are beyond comprehension, this guy is on drugs or something lol.

Jeff Minter is God reincarnate. He is a great coder, I love his works, really intense, surreal shooters. I can't wait to try Unity.
