Shining Soul

I was sooo going to pick this up until I read the GamePro review. They lambasted it. Anyone else read a review for it and changed their mind?

What exactly did the reviews say to detract you?

Funny, just last night i was perusing the internet for the word on this game since i am pretty interested in it. I was on the GameFAQS forum and many people say its a mixed bag. I know the gamers in that forum tend to be younger and slightly uninformed so you can take that for what it is. people do agree that shining soul II is much much better which i believe will be released state-side as well.

looks like these reviews are based on the imported version so maybe it will be different here?
i will confess, that i haven't checked out any official reviews after what i found out on GameFAQS so maybe someone else can point those interested in the right direction?

- the black sheep of the [Shining] family
- A repetitive dungeon attack that feels like an unexciting Diablo
- An Action/RPG and a pretty boring one at that
- The controls are clunky, your attacks are slow, and collision detection isn't exactly precise
- If variety is the spice of life, this life tastes extremely bland
- paraphrased - most enemies resemble each other and change just by color or by shoot or not shoot
- paraphrased - dungeons are simple - some monsters, some items, and an exit
"Many gamers saw screens of Shining Soul in Japanese form long, long ago and wondered why such a cool-looking game wasn't coming to America right away. That question has finally been answered."

Out of 12 posts on that Gamefaqs link, 5 are good, 1 is blah, and the rest are negative. The best title: "What's this : A, A, A, A, A ,A ,A ,A ,A..... an X rated flick? WRONG!!, it's Shining Soul"

- An ok game you can enjoy without understanding the Japanese text 6/10
- Not So Shining 5/10
- Worth noting 7/10
- Very Fun 8/10
- A Rather Disappointing Game 5/10
- Here comes another black sheep... 4/10
- Not worthy of the Shining name 4/10
- Sega Shining Series finally hits the GBA - check it out! 4/10
- What's this : A, A, A, A, A ,A ,A ,A ,A..... an X rated flick? WRONG!!, it's Shining Soul 4/10
- A decent but repetitive RPG 5/10
- Pressing the A Button Forever - 4/10
- A Great, simple Hack 'n Slash RPG 9/10

It is definitely on my TO BUY list. Anything Tactics or RPG, I'm there

No news so far, though. I'll make a post when I get information.

Yes, it sucks. Trust me. It's boring, mundane, the graphics are OK at best, and there's not much when it comes to items/monsters. I love the Shining series and this just tears the "Soul" right out of them. It's like playing PSO by yourself. Fun with a friend but who has those?
