I just picked up The Commitments on DVD and while playing the music video for Treat Her Right, the video stopped for a second, played for a half a second, stopped again, then played normally. I went back and played the same section again and it happened again at about the same place. Beating a dead horse, I did this about 5 more times and every time, this little glitch happened in about the same place (give or take a second or two). The weird thing is, I can't see any blemish on the surface of the disc that might cause this. I've had this same thing happen a few times in the past year. Each time, I returned the disc and the new one played fine.

I was worried about possible dirt in the player, but it seems to me that if that was the case, I wouldn't see the glitch in the same place. It might happen again in 30 seconds or a minute, but not in the same exact place. What gets me is, I can't find any scratch or blemish on the disc. Has anyone else had a case where the disc looked perfect, but it wouldn't play right?

I just watched two full seasons of ST:TNG on this player. Over 40 hours of video in two weeks time, and there was not a single glitch.

My thinking is, if you can play a disc, go back again and again, and it glitches in the same exact spot, then it must be the disc (even if the surface looks perfect). On the other hand, if you have a disc glitch and you go back and it doesn't do it in the same spot plays for a while and then glitches again, it's probably the player.

Yes? No? Any thoughts? (Or am I being 'Captain Obvious'?)

Sometimes the glue or whatever stuff they use to attach the two layers of a DVD together doesn't go on completely smooth. Thus, you wouldn't really see it, but the problem is there. That could be the problem. But then again, sometimes technology just doesn't want to work correctly for you, making you sit there and :hscratch:

Hope I was of some help.
