Can someone please explain to me why my tv listings have the Yankees-Red Sox listed as 1-4:30 and the MSU-Rutgers game from 4:30 to 6:30 on Fox?!??!?! WTF is that? Since when does a baseball game take 3 1/2 hours? Local fox always picks up one espn+ game, but that's just silly.....

twikoff
09-06-03, 12:26 PM
what games do you guys have on tv right now?

Ive got:
nc state vs wake on abc
ole miss vs memphis on espn2
michigan vs houston on espn
virginia vs south carolina on cbs
utah state vs nebraska on fox sports south

none of those really jump out at me.. so Ill be flipping around and watching them all ;)

twikoff
09-06-03, 12:31 PM
ouch.. terrible defense and tackling by wake on that play
they scored the first touchdown.... intercepted rivers on the first state drive
but they just gave all that back on that play.. and state is about to tie this game at 7

michigan is about to go in for their first touchdown

edit.. correction.. nc state couldnt put it in..
they had first and goal inside the 5.. and could not get the touchdown and had to settle for a fieldgoal.. 7-3 wake now

IdgIe49
09-06-03, 12:40 PM

twikoff
09-06-03, 01:04 PM
yea.. wake is lighting up nc state so far..
so much for a possible good matchup next week

and did you see the nc state player doing some fighting in the endzone and the ref come over, grab him by his shoulder pads, snatch him up, and stand there yelling at him for awhile..
that was great! gotta love these refs that lay the smack down and make it known they arent going to put up with that ****

wow.. wake is just dominating nc state
big sack.. now its 4th and 21 for state.. so wake is going to get the ball back again.

phillip rivers was leading the fan voting for the heisman race before this game.. but a game like this, really can end the race for him

AND WAKE RETURNS THE PUNT!!! wow
28-3 now

Wolfpack scored to make it 28-10.

twikoff
09-06-03, 01:21 PM
wake appeared to drop back into a sortof prevent defense.. and gave up chunks of yardage in a hurry

if they continue that in the second half.. this lead will be gone, and they will get destroyed

28-10 now
wake with the ball and just under 2 minutes..
nc state using their timeouts to try and get the ball back in this first half.. i think wake just wants to run out the clock

09-06-03, 02:26 PM
wake gets a fg to extend the lead to 31-10 after stopping state on a 4th down, deep in wake territory.
state has just added a touchdown..
so now, with 14 minutes left to play in the game.. wake is only up 31-17

watching the state offense.. i keep getting the feeling they are going to manage come back and win.. unless wake can come up with another score.. or at least a couple long drives to eat up alot of time... because i dont think wake will stop them again.

With NCState and Ohio State's showing today (so far), some of the talking heads are saying that the ACC/Big 10 matchup to watch next week might end up being Wake VS Purdue.

This could very easily change, however, as Purdue is tied 10-10 with Bowling Green at half.

edit: and NCStae is coming back.

Ole Miss - Memphis is a great game, as is NC State - Wake. ND is about to start, and Agassi is coming back from 2 sets down in the US Open semis.

maybe wake is for real
I keep expecting them to let nc state put up some quick scores and get back in this game
and they keep making the big plays to keep their lead
now down under 6 minutes.. wake moving the ball well.. and still a 14 point game..
Im pretty impressed with this team so far

Is one of the boston college teams comprised of clones of the other or is it more like a "B" squad?

wow.. anyone see that memphis touchdown??
quarterback was about to get sacked in the endzone and managed to toss it out.. found a receiver that had gotten past the defense.. defense hit with a pass interference.. and the receiver still managed to bring it in and go all the way for the touchdown

yea.. that one will help their stats alot -eek-

and memphis takes the lead over lil manning and ole miss

memphis pushed their lead up to a touchdown
with 3 1/2 minutes to go
and manning just got intercepted
memphis may have just wrapped up this game

rivers and manning both hurt their heisman chances big time today..

yea i know.. its really early.. but its also college football, you live or die by each week.. and when you cant perform against the teams you are suppose to beat.. you shoot yourself in the foot.

blowing the chance for a touchdown and giving up the 100 yard interception return, really seemed to be the point that told me osu was going to manage to win the game

but osu better hope they can play better than that.. when they meet up with some real teams..
osu vs nc state seems like a pretty disappointing matchup now though.

auburn is playing extremely vanilla right now.. just trying to pound the ball up the middle on every play
so far it hasnt worked very well for them
Im not sure how deep the tech defense is.. but if the plan is to rotate running backs and pound it at the defense until you wear them down.. thats one thing.. but if you let the other team get up on your in the meantime.. its not the best plan!

Yeah, the "cadillac" offense. Very overused and boring to watch. And hasn't worked well in almost 2 seasons since every other team caught on to the predictability.

gotta love when the timing of games work out perfectly

auburn game was at commercial.. going to the 2nd qtr
so I switched to the notre dame game.. just in time to see wash st get a sack, interception, and pick it up and take it in for a touchdown. wsu now up 19-0

whats the record for most unranked teams that beat ranked teams in a single week?

that being said.. auburn rushed for more yards as a team, in the first qtr.. than they finished with, against usc last week.
offense is too obvious and easy to defend right now..
the big difference is that campbell isnt playing near as well as he did last season.. jason looked really good for the most part, in most games last season.. in these 5 qtrs so far, he has really struggled.. and the bad news is, there isnt anyone with any experience behind him on the bench..

the defense held usc to 6 points (not including the points off turnovers) last week.. and the defense has done ok today, with the exception of the big play.. but they are going to have to continue to play like that until campbell can get it going.. and the offense cant make any turnovers..

5 qtrs into the season.. and still no points

auburn comes away with a fg, but no way they wouldnt have been able to force 4 yards with the running backs.. dammit..

If Auburn doesn't get an offense, it will be a very long season for them. They are lucky to have a FG because GT should have had the ball at mid field on that fumble.

That's what I was just bitching about, too. He wastes the whole game having Carnell run up the middle, when he should be using other plays, and then when a Carnell play would be the smart thing to do, he does the opposite.
I said it before and I'll say it again: Auburn hasn't had a decent QB for a long time now. Campbell has the talent, but he's just too damn stupid to do anything with it.

I still expect him to eventually calm down and show up the qb he was last season.. hopefully he doesnt wait too much longer to do it..

Damn, even if Auburn gets it together and can win this game I'm very concerned about the play calling. Come back Petrino! WHY in the world would you pass two times on the 5 when you have the running backs we have? Especially when you haven't shown squat in that area? I'm not a football genious, but who can't see how horrible our play calling is? Geez.

twikoff
09-06-03, 05:11 PM
well.. the logic behind the pass plays..
ga tech was stacking the line, because they knew what we were doing.. so the idea, was to roll out campbell and let him toss it into the endzone or run.. but tech got great penetration and broke it all to hell.. and after passing on 2nd and setting up 3rd and goal from the 4 1/2 yard line.. they pretty much got themselves in a situation where they didnt have a choice but to pass again.. so the 2nd down call was the really bad one..

logic says that even with tech stacking the line.. ronnie would have been able to pick up 4 yards in 3 runs (I think it was 4 down territory if they got closer)..

and look at wash state.. constant late hits and personal fouls.. they are begging to let notre dame get something going

Terrell
09-06-03, 05:30 PM
So many teams this week have struggled. Auburn is struggling mightily with Tech, a team they should be drubbing. Maybe they're overrated. They're still a talented team. I believe it's coaching and a gadawful QB. UGA looked bad today, even though they won by almost 3 TDs, gained well over 500+ yards on offense, and looked great on D against the run. They racked up 18 penalties which is insane. Tennesse is struggling against Marshall on their own field. Ohio State looked awful and had to hang on for dear life against San Diego St.

The beat goes on. Just a weird Saturday.

twikoff, I think you are right.... I strongly doubt AU will start their season with games outside of the rinky dinks in the next decade of scheduling. Earlier I said the coaches were calling boneheaded plays, but during the second half it's obvious our team just isn't that great. What a shame to see such promise crash down. The way things are now we'll be in a battle with Vandy next week. Crap, the week after that might even be a struggle with a bye. I'm in such a weird mood about this... not angry, just kind of stunned.

i dont have the actual stats.. but cadillac and ronnie brown actually have rushed for much more than that, i believe..
but as a team, the rushing numbers are so bad thanks to all the negative yards
odd how bad our offensive line is playing.. considering these same guys were great last season
i think the running stats would be much better, if they could get some breaks in other areas.

but on the same note.. this just gets the whole national championship race bs out of the way..
its still a fresh season as far as conference play goes.. and if they can put together a good sec season, I will still be really happy with this team

of course.. they have to score touchdowns before they win any games..
but I havent been impressed with any sec team yet this season.. so we will have to wait and see how that goes..
it all comes down to campbell turning it around, and the rest of the offense overcoming the stupid mistakes.

http://hurricanesports.ocsn.com/trads/mifl-name.html

In 1973, UM’s Athletic Federation, the fund raising arm of the athletic department at the time, commissioned a local public relations expert to develop a distinctive logo. The University had gone several years with a variety of helmet and uniform changes and the Federation noted that a number of major colleges have the initials UM. Miami designer Bill Bodenhamer suggested the "U" idea, which lent itself to slogans like "U gotta believe" and "U is great".

Woo hoo! GT takes down Auburn hard. Auburn's QB was harrassed and hurried quite a bit in this game, and only mounted a few good throws (but making some really bad plays to keep them out of scoring position in the second half). I'm enjoying watching true freshman QB Reggie Ball as he steps up and is making some good plays, and not forcing the plays. GT does need to get better at catching the catchable passes, and not fumble the ball as much either.

the gt fans realized their season was going to suck last week when they lost to the lowly byu cougars.. and its gotta be bad when they have to rush the field and tear down the goalpost after beating an 0-1 auburn team.. but that could be their biggest win this decade, so they better enjoy it.. or maybe it was because they lost the last 9 meetings with auburn and alot of them werent alive the last time they actually beat the tigers.. either way, they will be brought back to reality when they get destroyed by fsu next week

Did Ohio State cover the spread? rotfl

So was Ohio State really that bad, or was San Diego State's defense just that good?

Lets give San Diego State some credit people - they were 32 point underdogs and if they hadn't had 3 or 4 offensive gaffes they would have won this game. 13 of OSU's 16 points came off of turnovers. SDSU gave them the game. Look at the stats - SDSU outplayed OSU, they just made one too many mistakes offensively (of course, it WAS their backup quarterback playing since Adam Hall is out).

San Diego State was paid $2.4 million to go to Ohio State and EMBARRASS the defending national champions!

San Diego State clearly has a better coaching staff than OSU - they just don't have the same caliber of players. Yet.

This really reminded me of the 1990 SDSU game against then 2nd ranked Miami when SDSU dominated the game physically, but missed 3 40+ yard field goals and lost 30-28.

Ohio State may not be as good as they were last year, but they dominated Washington last week, so they're still pretty darned good.

As a 30+ year SDSU fan I'd just like to thank Ohio State for the generous contribution to the Aztec Athletic Department - and for the big confidence boost this team just got!

I thought SDSU was paid $2.7 mill not $2.4 (not that it matters). I think today's game was a combination of good defense by SDSU and poor execution by OSU.

They played a good game, though. It looks like Bama might have had an under-rated team pre-season.

This is a good strategy for Florida to take some time off the clock and let Berlin cool off a little (not to mention give their defense a rest)

I think you go for it here. If you punt it, good chance there is a touchback, which is only about a 15-20 yard difference, and that isn't going to change the game at this point.
