Actor plays same character in multiple, unrelated productions
I stumbled across this, and thought it odd.
In the 1985 film, Warning Sign, Keith Szarabajka plays a lab technician named "Tippett." Subsequently, in an 8th season episode of X Files (Via Negativa), he plays a character named "Anthony Tipet."
The names are too unusual for the repetition not to be intentional. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the character in the X Files episode. (I wonder if he's not a lab technician?)
Anyhow, this little bit of trivia was interesting, and perhaps some of you might also find it so.
How often is this done, do you think? Can you think of any other examples?

Well, Jason Lee plays the same sort of loudmouth guy in almost every movie I've seen him in. A coincedence? Maybe...
BTW...I'm only kidding...I like Jason Lee...he plays a loudmouth sort of guy very well, IMO.

Ho-ho, we got some funny guys here! "Adam Sandler is THE SAME CHARACTER EVERY TIME! SO IS AL PACINO! SO IS..."etcetera. ZING! Oh, my sides...
Seriously though:
Groucho's got the only official one I know about. Then again, there's R. Lee Ermey's Gunnery Sergeant in Full Metal Jacket, which he reprises/lampoons in The Frighteners and, to a lesser extent, TV's "Mail Call".

Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche (Randolph and Mortimer Duke) from Trading Places reappeared in Coming to America. Both movies were directed by John Landis and starred Eddie Murphy so they aren't exactly unrelated productions.

"I know you were joking but Sandler's characters in those fims are nothing alike."
Idiot man-child. And the plots are usually identical where his childish antics will get him the girl he's in love with at the end.

Sean Connery has been playing "the old fart know it all who's misunderstood, hates authority, and has to be brought into the main stream again by some youngster" in just about every roles he's played for the last 20 years.
The Untouchables
The Avengers
Finding Forrester
Hunt for Red October
Rising Sun
and so on.

Eric Stoltz in Jerry Maguire is the same character from Say Anything.
Sharon Stone did her Basic Instinct thing in Last Action Hero.
James Doohan was "Scotty" in Loaded Weapon 1. And it also looked like Bruce Willis lampooned John McClane in the same film.
If you want something slightly odd, Alec Baldwin is rumored to be in the next Jack Ryan film (Red Rabbit), but not as Ryan.

Great topic, I have always said that this is done by:
MARTIN LAWRENCE " the comical cop who is often accompanied by a white sidekick"
Blue Streak
National Security
Big Mommas House
Bad Boys (no white sidekick but a cop nonetheless)

This thread has been de-railed. At once it looked like an interesting topic but slowly it became this so-and-so actor plays the same character in every picture, blah, blah. Sad.

I could have sworn that Gary Oldman played Lee Harvey Oswald in two movies, JFK and another, but I can't seem to find the info on IMBD.
Gary Blakewell played Paul McCartney in Backbeat and The Linda McCartney Story.
Scot Williams played Pete Best in Backbeat and In His Life: The John Lennon Story.

I might be mistaken, but Gene Hackman plays a very similar character in The Conversation and Enemy of the State.
