Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon
Anybody catch any of the telethon yet. I just watched 5 minutes. Every year while surfing channels I forget about it but get sucked into watching a little.
This year Jerry looks bad and really not funny in anway.
Hey its my first thread !

I watched for a minute, and the host said something like, "We're looking forward to seeing you next year." Wow, that's not very optimistic.

Check out Drudge. He has a big picture of Jerry, and I swear to god I didn't recognize him at all. Even knowing who it is I hardly believe it. The headline says "Jerry does it again" (refering to raising a record $60mil) and I though perhaps it was Jerry Falwell saying something stupid about terrorism and gays again.

I saw Jerry on Larry King the other night and he was funny. He explained that his looks are due to taking Prednisone for a pulmonary disease.
My favorite one was when King asked him why he lives in Las Vegas he responded " Because that's where my house is at! ".

I'm kind of surprised that people still watch the telethon for "Jerry's Kids" this day and age.
And it sort of fascinates me that Jerry Lewis seemingly has enough pull in Hollywood to essentially highjack an entire network for one day every year.
I'm also not old enough to remember Jerry Lewis for anything he did prior to the telethon. Weird.

I donated $1 to help Jerry's Kids at Ralph's Market the other day.
That means they're one step closer to a cure.

As for Jerry Lewis, I saw the guy on tv the other day and couldn't help thinking "Oh god! He's eating the kids!"
But seriously, we have a cat that took prednisone for years for asthma. She's a frikkin moose. She's front declawed, so she learned to punch and she can do some damage.

My sister volunteers every year (my nephews have MD). She answers the phones locally and has been on tv (shown answering phones) pretty much every year for the past few years.
I've gone twice. Once I helped maked pancakes for the volunteers (Volunteers get complimentary food).

Wow, Ed is almost gaunt next to Jerry, and he has to be in his eighties.
Every time I think of this telethon, I think of the little guy with MD that frequently appeard on Howard Stern. "Jerry Lewis can kiss my crippled ass, that f**k!" He's dead now.
Honk!

Call me ignorant, but what exactly have they been doing with the hundreds of millions of dollars raised in the decades since the telethon started? Where is all the money going (since as far as I know it hasn't produced a cure)?

They give money to families/people with MD. For instance, if you need to buy a new wheel chair, MDA will give you some money to help pay for it. Not nearly enough to either a) pay for the whole thing or b) cover even your cost after insurance, but at least its something.
They also do summer camps every summer around the country which is free for kids with MD.
