Not sure I understand DvdTalks' "I, Madman" review?
I dropped this from my preorders when I saw that it was full-frame only (just like Fright Night 2). Now this review makes it sound like it's 1:78:1 non-anamorphic?
"MGM's DVD of I, Madman is a fine transfer that unfortunately is not 16:9 enhanced. It crops off well to 1:78, indicating that it's probably been left full-frame and not reformatted or re-framed on the fly during telecine. The marketers must have reasons for choosing this flat, television-intended version over a more appropriate 16:9 transfer."
What does he mean "it crops off well to 1:78"? Does he mean that he used the tv or dvd players' zoom to cut off top & bottom to make the image 16x9? If so, I guess he means it looks like an open-matte. I did that with the Kubrick dvds & it worked pretty well. I was really looking forward to this, it's a shame. I thought full-frame was only supposed to be for family-friendly titles? And it's also a shame that with a small title like this the studios probably just figure no one was interested in the title, and not that it was because of the transfer.
