Hey all,

FINALLY heard the new Sarah McLachlan song today..."Fallen." It's been 7 years since sarah put out any new material and she's finally back. Although the album is TBA at the moment, signs are pointing to a November release. The song is AWESOME. You all should check it out!

Wow...I was just thinking abou her the other day...even went to her website to see if there was any news of an upcoming release. I'll have to keep my ears open for this one.

EA has a link to the song on their Sims website. Appears to only be streaming as it's embedded in a flash file.

Go to http://thesims.ea.com/us/index.html and the link will be at the end of the "The Sims Spotlight!" column.

Or a direct link..... http://thesims.ea.com/us/getcool/supersarah.html

Christ, just let us download an MP3 or something. It's nearly impossible to play that thing. It starts and stops and restarts... don't know if my dial-up connection is too slow to handle it or what.

You have to let the whole thing load. It'll play in pieces until that happens

Once it does, the whole thing will play through.

I recorded it when it was done and viola! :) I have a nice sounding wav of it to listen to until the damn

Yes, this is long overdue.

I hope the full album will finally be out early this fall.

the last studio record was entirely too short with only
nine songs with vocals.

Saw this on TheSims.com, and came over here to post... glad I searched first. :D What a great voice, and what a great song. It's crazy to think that her last big commercial release was seven years ago. If you don't have her Mirrorball DVD, it's worth checking out.

She sang on it. It's not a "sarah mclachlan" song...

I'm not even sure she wrote it.

Doesn't count.

Just heard it again on NYC radio.

I'm hoping this doesn't become another Adia or Angel though.

I'd settle for a "Building a Mystery" or "Sweet Surrender."

People love to overplay Sarah. Probably why she can take so long between albums.

Drexl
09-08-03, 07:56 PM
Well, actually, it's been six years-and a few months. Surfacing came out in the summer of 1997. She also did "Blackbird" on the I am Sam soundtrack, but as we all know, she didn't write that either so it doesn't count.

It's been so long because she took time off to have a baby, and then she took care of her sick mother.

Excuses, excuses. ;)

That's the rumor. But there's no release date...and supposedly they retracted that statement and said it's TBA. But i'm thinking it will still be released then.

From Sarah McLachlan's official website:

Sarah McLachlan's first new studio album in 6 years, titled 'Afterglow', is set for release on November 4th, 2003.

Sarah and Nettwerk have responded to the demands of fans by insisting on a suggested list price for her upcoming CD to be set at $15.99, 20% lower than the standard suggested list price of $20.49.

With the first single from the album, 'Fallen', currently at radio, Sarah McLachlan will be touring extensively in support of the new album in 2004.

Just an update...

Two other songs are on the net as well.

My god...

"Stupid" and (especially) "Answer" are phenomenal.

Answer may be her best ballad ever. Hopefully radio won't kill it.

Sarah did Fallen last night at the MGM Grand as part of a benefit concert. It was beautiful and sounded great. She said she just put the finishing touches on the album last week nd it was the first time she sang for an audience "in a long time". It's nice to have her back.
Her mini-set was:
The Difficult Kind (with Sheryl Crow)
Fallen
Angel
Daniel (everyone had to do an Elton John song)

I'm glad Dave is getting her first. I hope the song is a hit for her, it's very good, and there's so much crap out there. I actually can't wait to get this CD.

GREAT album. Holy cow, that's neat. I'm really surprised they would do this... aren't there programs that would let you rip the audio stream to a file? Presto change-o, instant Sarah McLachlan CD or MP3s to put on the web.

Yeah, but for those of us who actually believe in supporting a worthwhile artist or an audiophile concerned with sound quality, that scenario wouldn't suffice.

No matter how much "mastering" you could do to it, it wouldn't equal the CD experience.

Then again, i'm sure if her album doesn't sell the first week [which it SHOULD], it wouldn't surprise me if the RIAA claimed rampant piracy from the VH1 stream was the cause... -rolleyes-

at the iTunes site, there's a "Live Acoustic EP 2003" available..

5 songs...$4.95.

I didn't buy it. Not 'cause I don't want it [I downloaded iTunes SPECIFICALLY to see what was on it]..I DO want it...but it just feels funny clicking a button that says "Buy Album" and getting 5 MP3S...

just can't do it.

but if it's ever released in STORES [hell, or on her site] it's mine.

All I can say is  *bliss*

Its been too long since the last cd but I'm glad to have the new cd and other releases(remixed) and once again listening to Sarah goodness. :)

I picked it up today and listened to it once all the way through. I like it. I can't really compare it to anything else in her catalog except for Surfacing, since that's the only other album of hers that I own (so far, I like that album a little better, but it's too early to tell).

I really love "Push." Must've listened to that song three times now.

Well, I went to Media Play, and after talking with 5 of their sales associates, they came to the conclusion the ad was wrong, and that it was trying to referred to the CD as being an Enhanced CD (where you use the CD and go on the web and get to see Sarah-related videos, etc). So it was much ado about nothing.

But the ad did say it came with a bonus DVD, but it was not to be.

Some of the sales associates tried to convince me the bonus DVD was inside the CD case, and I looked at the bottom edge, and there was one one disc, and the CD leaflet.

Anyone else watch or Tivo Sarah on CNBC's Power Lunch today? Excellent, and ten times more worth watching than her appearance on Letterman last night. She basically hung around the studio with them for over an hour and played several songs (only Fallen was played in its entirety on the air) and they talked to her twice.

Just got back from the Oxygen concert...

Set List:

Avril did 4 songs. I hate her so I don't care to list them. But she covered Knockin' On Heavens Door.

Sarah's Set List:

Building A Mystery (complete with the "fu*ked up")
Fallen
Dirty Little Secret
Push (with Sean Ashby and Ash)
Ice Cream (w/ Sean and Ash)
Angel

Then they had to re-set because they needed to do 2 songs over. During Push a cameraman fell over and made a very loud crash. Dunno why they did Ice Cream over.

In any case, while they were setting up some people stage left yelled for Sarah to do a little Possession. So she played about a quarter of it and Ash played a little along with her. She stopped and then they did Push and Ice Cream over. Actually...she tried to do Push again and screwed it up and had to start yet again. ;)

She was amazingly adorable. I just hope they show the whole concert. Push was absolutely adorable. Sarah and Ash were staring at each other. :)

Make sure you check it out!

This is the first brand new CD I've bought since The Wallflowers released Red Letter Diaries. Didn't even need to be sold on it other than it being a McLachlan recording. Such quality performance for $9.99! Hopefully Sarah's new release will do amazing numbers and make the RIAA wake up.

Ignore "Rolling Stone."

Rolling Stone has become a forty year-old man peppering his speech with trendy expressions like "f'shizzle" in a feeble attempt to pick up teenage girls.

Ten years ago, Rolling Stone merely sucked. These days, they've gone so far there isn't a word for them.

Well, I've given the whole CD a listen several times through now. I like it and it's up to her usual quality. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say it blew me away. For me, I guess some of it is the lyrics - they are a little too...how do I put it...literal? Melodically, it's fine, though out of the whole bunch, only Time really kind of made me perk up. I agree with Vryce - not 2 stars, but not quite 4 stars. But unfortunately, not quite 3.5 stars either. 3 stars. Good album and I don't regret buying it though. I'll keep listening and see if any of them catch on more with additional listening.

"Drifting" is the only song I'd ditch off the album. "Perfect Girl" and "Dirty Little Secret" are okay, but not as well constructed (to my ears) as the rest of the album in terms of production.

Vocally, I still think "Surfacing" is Sarah's best. But "Fumbling" is more better sounding album overall.

Picked this up... I love Sarah, but I'm sorry, this CD is not my cup of tea. It sounds like old recycled material. I only liked 2 songs on there. Does anybody else NOT like it besides me? I'm not trying to thread crap, I've been a Sarah fan since the late 80's.... and this just sounds like she threw stuff together. Honestly, her lyrics are almost identical to some on Fumbling... Does it grow on you?

I, like you, have been a fan since Touch (her 80s release) and I felt on the first listen that Fallen was a little...well...flat. However, I didn't like Surfacing on the first listen eithe. Fumbling, being one of my favorite albums, was hard to beat. Although Surfacing woudl grow on me months after I stoped listening to the radio and heard Adia or Angel ever 5 minutes. Fallen, after a few listens, indeed does grow on you although the comparisons to Fumbling are hard to ignore. In the end, though, in my mind, some Sarah is better then no Sarah and it was well worth the wait to at least hear some new stuff.

Well the tour dates were announced for this summer!

I'm taking a 3 and 1/2 week roadtrip this summer that has already been scheduled.
It's funny because she'll be in Houston and New Orleans exactly when I'll be there.
(...and Nashville and Charlotte and Hartford easily made if I wanted to. I'll be on the road in that vicinity on those dates).

Locally to my home, I'd go to the Worcester show.

So I haven't decided which shows I'm going to yet.
But will probably do New Orleans and one other.
(will get the fanclub tickets)

I saw Sarah at Philips Arena tonight (Atlanta), and she's the real deal. I think the only song she didn't do from "Afterglow" was "Time" (which I like a lot). She opened with "Fallen" but she wasn't quite warmed up to do that song's high notes as well as on the album, so it was a little shaky, but then she got warmed up and settled in a groove and sounded great.

She brought the house down with "Fear" (probably the hardest song her in catalogue), but it took her about 2.5 songs to get her voice back to normal singing volume/range again. She immediately sang "Train Wreck" and I had to note the irony of the song choice at that moment in time. But it's totally understandable because she really nailed "Fear" and it just took its toll for a short while.

I do think the live version of the songs from "Fumbling" are a bit better than the ones from "Surfacing", but still very enjoyable, and I liked the new intro's to many of the songs as well. I'm not all that crazy about "Perfect Girl" but the live version was much better than the album version.

All in all, Sarah sang for about 2 hours (mainly from her last 3 albums, and a couple from soundtracks), with a couple of encores thrown in for good measures. The piano- only song renditions were really nice and pure. The vocals were mixed well inside the arena for Sarah (as in the instrumentals didn't overpower her vocals or vice-versa). And my ears didn't ring much afterwards, even though our seats were on the floor. I was miffed that a really tall guy was in my line of sight for front and center when Sarah was there on stage. Oh well, that's just the luck you get at concerts.

Anyhow, if you're a fan of Sarah's, you owe it to yourself to see her in concert, you won't be disappointed at all.

Do you happen to recall the songs she did, her setlist?

I'm seeing her in Detroit on the 23rd of August. I've had my tickets since the morning they went on sale in march I think.
Got balcony seats, but first row so no one in front of me. :)

Can't wait. I missed her last time she was touring. I saw her once at Lilith Fair.

I'm still a bit unsure of the venue. Last time she played the Fox Theater in Detroit which is a nice venue, and smallish.

This time, she is playing at the Palace of Auburn Hills(Pistons NBA and Shock WNBA). Its a huge place.

Caught her in Houston last weekend. Great show. Really like the way they did the visuals on the backdrop. She looked great and sounded great!

I also enjoyed her opening act Butterfly Boucher. I think I just may go out and pick up her CD (which she was autographing at the show-but itwas on the other side of the stadium so I was too lazy to go).

Sarah's stage was looking a bit on the organic side (I swore stuff was growing throughout the show!)

I can't remember the setlist, but it was a solid 2 hours of Sarah, and I really needed it after hearing about the death of a close childhood friend's mother yesterday. There were songs that made me fight back tears a lot (Angel almost crushed me).

Butterfly Boucher looks a little like the lead actress playing Jaye from Wonderfalls, but with short hair. It was kind of cool to see a singer playing bass in her songs. Her voice is a bit like Fiona Apple's but with probably another octave to it.

I saw Sarah last Thursday at the Dallas show, and all I can say is WOW! What a great show, I think she sang 25 songs. Don't know about other shows, but the first song of the encore was a cover of the Beatles' "Blackbird." I have the setlist written down, just not in front of me so I will post a complete list a bit later.

When I saw Sarah a few weeks ago, in San Diego, this was her setlist:

'fallen'
'world on fire'
'adia'
cover of 'you are my sunshine'
'hold on'
Perfect Girl
'drifting'
'push'
'i will remember you'
'ice'
'wait'
'witness'
'elsewhere'
'answer'
'angel'
'fear'
'trainwreck'
'building a mystery'
'sweet surrender'
'posession'

ENCORE
'blackbird'
'ice cream'
'stupid'
'fumbling towards ecstasy'
'dirty little secret'

Very good show. I must admit I have been listening to "Afterglow" much more than I did before the show. My only regret is that she didn't do "Time", but it was well worth it since she did a ton of songs from my favortite Sarah cd, "FTE"..

GO SEE THIS SHOW IF YOU ARE A SARAH FAN ..

That's pretty close to the setlist Sarah played in Atlanta as well.

There was a second encore which featured "Dirty Little Secret" after FTE.

Does anyone know what the secret in DLS is all about?
