JFK re-release 11/11/03

From thedigitalbits.com

Finally this morning, and speaking of Warner, the studio has sent word that they're planning on re-releasing Oliver Stone's JFK on 11/11 (MAP $19.95). This 2-disc JFK: Special Edition will include the film in anamorphic widescreen video with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio (the 205 minute cut). Also included will be the Beyond JFK feature-length documentary, 12 extended/deleted scenes and audio commentary with director Oliver Stone. We believe that this is basically the same disc as before, simply with the addition of the documentary.
I don't understand why WB would re-release this again.

Wasn't the first release non-anamorphic? If that's the case, then I can see it. I just wish they'd do these discs right the first time. (Like Office Space, Titanic, etc.)

JFK, blown away, what else do I have to say?

Seriously?

Nobody notices that JFK's rerelease is coming in November of 2003, 40 years after the assassination of Kennedy? I thought for a moment, "why not go whole hog, and put it on on 11/22/03," but I checked, and that's a Saturday.

It reminds me of the Pearl Harbor DVD release, didn't they do something like that?

The specs for this look to be identical to the 2 disc DVD that came out in early 2001 with the rest of Warner's Oliver Stone Collection. Maybe it will be repackaged in one of those 2 disc digipaks like the other 2 disc sets from Warner.

That would be nice... I think we're all in agreement that the current JFK packaging is suck-o-la. I might dip again (from CH of course) for new packaging. Otherwise, forget it.

If it's this documentary, 90 minutes.

A 90 minute documentary is a pretty big addition, if it is true.

I traded this away several months ago, but kind of wish that I hadn't. If this one ends up in a nicer digipack, it might end up back in my collection.

I'll be picking this one up. I just caught snippets of it on cable the other day and remembered what a thrilling film it is. I guess I'll hold out for this new version with the documentary.

This is the third release of JFK.

First one was the movie only. You actually had to flip the disc over halfway through.

The second version does have sucky packaging. The second disc is tucked in a secret compartment. I was just looking at it and didn't even notice the second disc right away. I don't see anything about the documentary.

I think I'll be skipping this new release. I don't feel like paying $20 for a documentary. Hopefully someone will post it on the newsgroups or Kazaa.

outside of the prior 2 disc set having the all time worst packaging EVER, I really dont see the point of this at all...Then again, it might be nice not having to cram the supplemental disc in the carboard fold of a snap case...*shudder*

Slightly OT, any thoughts if they might do this for Ben Hur? I'd rather have two discs than a flipper since I have a 3 disc player.

And back on OT, what other movies would this compare to?

Has anyone seen the documentary? Is it worth double dipping from the previous 2 disc edition?

Maybe if I can get it for cheap (or get enough from the other JFK I have) I'll double dip for it.

So glad I let my flipper sit on the shelf for so long without viewing it. I'm *definitely* picking this up as I'm absolutely fascinated by the events surronding the assassination of JKF. Not to mention this is one of my favorite films in cinema history!

Well, I guess my current JFK disc will be be off to the used DVD's/CD's store that week (it comes out the day before my birthday too no less).

Surprise announcement for sure, but I'm happy with it, cause like all of you, I'm not a fan of the snapper cases, plus I can't wait to see the new documentary.

This is one of my top 10 favourite movies, so this is a definite for me.

Edit: The packaging looks sweet too. Love thh WB two-disc digipacks.

plus I can't wait to see the new documentary.
I doubt very much if it's a "new" docu.
It was made in 1992, just after the film itself.
If anything new were incorporated into it, I'd be tempted to "twin dip" too.

Well, it'd be new to me anyway. Then again maybe not cause I watched a lot of JFK stuff back when this movie first came out (yes, I was a weird 12 year old) plus whatever Unsolved Mysteries showed. We'll see come November.
