Well, my discussion thread was posted WAY before that one, yet not many people responded, so boo on both of you.

I must say, I wasn't expecting much, but the show was pretty good. There were a lot of acting faces I'd seen before, which was cool, but I was surprised by the fact that after one episode I was really interested in seeing how these characters lives played out. Not so much the up and coming runningback, but I found the lineback guy and recovering running back quite riveting.
I guessed I feared it'd go Any Given Sunday overboard, but it only goes overboard enough to remain watchable and not ridiculous.

I liked it well enough for a first episode, but it wasn't as good as i had hoped it would be. It was just lacking something, but I'm guessing a few more episodes along it will pick up some steam. It's a difficult balance of setting a stage and introducing too many "issues," and they seemed just this side of the latter....I'll be tuning in again though....definately a promising start....

Didn't like it all that much, thought the direction was uninspired, as were the performances. Plus the voice overs were just tiresome. And yes, it irks me to see that some people can practically get away with just about anything because they can pile up the yards in a game, or score a ton of points.

Not spectacular, but definitely good enough for me to watch a few more episodes and see where it goes. It certainly wasn't cheap sensationalism (which I partly feared), and they appeared to be trying to address some depth with the story and characters. I liked the dynamic between the owner, the coach, and the aging RB.

I just saw on Tivo that this stars Cuba Gooding's more talented brother Omar Gooding. Now, I have to watch.

Did Omar Gooding get an ultra tan to look more black or something, because he was pretty dark in this and he has always been lighter skinned? Maybe I am just imagining things...

I thought it was ok.
I didn't care for the voice overs. Alot of the sounded the same to me.
It's bad enough I had to listen to the Notre Dame fight song, but having three large men in just jock straps singing it was to much.

so... what did you guys think?
i think it has some potential... i'll be watching again next week.. glad to see there's some swearing in there though... no f-bombs, but the gave you a d*** and an a-hole in the first minute!
gotta say though, that game time countdown clock is a total rip-off of 24... same font and everything.. and was it me, or did the closing song sound like a complete rip-off of the sopranos theme??
edit: oh, and the close-up camera work between coach and leon at the end was also very 24-esque...

I wasn't blown away, but I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the diverse groups of characters. The acting was surprisingly good as well.
Jeers to the "thinking" voiceovers. They were disconcerting and unnecessary. Lazy writing that really brought the entire show down a notch. Show, don't tell.

I was definitely not drawn in like when I watch 24 but it still has a lot of promise to the show. The linebacker guy and the veteran RB are characters I'll be watching. The rookie RB will be the same old story. Lots of money, lots of fame. "Probably" won't get into any trouble.

I had the same impression.
The whole RB needing to get some crack 15 minutes before a game was pretty ridiculous though. I don't know what city he plays in but if you try to drive to FedEx Field 15 minutes before game time, you can forget about making it on time, even if you are a player.
