Iron Giant SE - released now????

Just wondering what exactly is going on with regard the 'Iron Giant SE' as i had thought it was delayed to coincide with the release of 'The Incredibles' in 2004...however with confirmation of the Korean R3 being available and strangley enough people off another forum who had pre-ordered the R1 suddenly receiving shipping confirmations not to mention this:

http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASI...812366-0133130

is this now available in Canada?

Spooky. I guess they haven't updated the section yet. Although I really hoped they do already have it...

I was wondering the same thing the other night:

nevermind about the link. it doesn't seem to work

anyways, dvdpricesearch showed it as "coming tomorrow" on the August 25 section, with a click-thru showing the 2 disc SE.

Cross-studio tie-in releases are not uncommon. Warner released Roger & Me on the same day as MGM's Bowling for Columbine DVD. They know that the filmmaker's name is going to be on the radar that day and want to cash-in while the public level of awareness is at a peak.

I know...that's why i mentioned it in my intial post

Apparantly one Korean online retailer (Koreandvds.com) has completely sold out and as it is a Limited edition in Korea if you have region-free capability it is a matter of getting it while you still can assuming there isn't a R1 release already...but then again..why would Amazon.Ca say it 'ships in 2-3 days'?...very strange!!

Sometimes it seems things are automated (esp w/ a place like Amazon that has a large catalog) so potentially when it was first announced it was added w/ a set release date, that date has passed so it should be available now. What might be missing is someone going through and auditing the system to clean out incorrect references. Have you tried mailing them directly to see what they say?

That's the old release. We're talking about the new Special Edition re-release, which has not come out in the U.S. yet.

DavisDVD mentioned November 2004 as the target date for the SE here in America?? Was that a typo? Because if it is going to take that long, I am going to go ahead and order the region 3 edition. Has anybody confirmed if Canada has this out yet, and if so, how do the special features stack up with the region 3 release?

I don't think WB has issued a new date for the SE, except for a tentative "2004" release. www.thedigitalbits.com speculated that WB might release the SE to coincide with the release of Pixar's The Incredibles, which might be where DavisDVD got the November date from.

Info on the R3 version can be found in this thread:

spengebobkay, that article was written before the disc release is being postponed indefinitely.

According to an email I received from amazon.ca

"Iron Giant: Special Edition" is listed on our web site as "Usually
ships in 2-3 days," and is the region 1 edition of this DVD. Most of
the DVDs sold by Amazon.ca are encoded for Region 1 (Canada and U.S.)
only and may not work on DVD players in other countries.
Of course the person may just be regurgitating what's on the website w/o other research Anyone try ordering it yet? I noticed it was #15 wrt sales.

Pretty sure The Incredibles is a Pixar release. Not a Disney.

Pixar is still part of Disney. For the time being, at least.

Pixar isn't really part of Disney, they're an independent company. However, they do have a distribution deal with Disney, so saying "Disney's The Incredibles" is half right.
