Would it be a threadcrap to say that I hated the movie and that I dont see how adding another half an hour to an already bloated and plodding film can possibly make it better. Unless that half hour contains all the character development that the film was sorely lacking.

"Wait until the 3rd movie - then it'll all make sense!" Dude, if the audiance is asleep and/or in a coma by the first act, it doesn't matter what the 3rd act covers.

The first I saw the theatrical version, I thought it was ok.

Each of the next couple of times I saw it I liked it better.

When I saw the extended, it all came together for me. Now, I LOVE LOTR. Keep in mind I never read the books and new nothing about LOTR. So, it took several viewings for it all to sink in for me.

I think most people prefer the Extended Edition, but I find it odd that somebody would HATE the theatrical and LOVE the Extended.

What, specifically, made it so much better?

Im leaving now so this will be my last post

i just understood the story better!

being a child of the 70`s and 80`s my attention span is very limitedso the movie was just harder to follow-,or i just could not get into it....

I felt the extended edition gave me a little more detail into what was happening....it sucked me in better!!!!i new what was happening at all times.

im trying to remember what parts exactly, but again,-70`s and 80`s Blah,Blah,,Blah!!!!!

anyway can`t wait for the next"EXTENDED EDITION""

Being a child of the 70's/80's shouldn't be an excuse for your lack of attention span.

I'm a child of the 70s and 80s and don't see what that has to do with attention span at all. One of my favorite films this year has been Open Range, which some would complain moves at the pace of a snail walking uphill on a molasses covered hill in the middle of summer. So don't blame your age on your lack of attention span.

I didn't see it in theaters because I had no interest, and never read the books. My girlfriend bought the EE, she rather likes the movie, so I watched it with her. It was fine, I didn't love it nor hate it. I'd say the best parts were the early stuff with Bilbo.

I find it really fascinating how people reverse their opinion of this movie based on the version that's LONGER Even some who only thought the theatrical FOTR was 'OK' or just 'good' go wild over the extended one. Some even say that it should have been the one that was originally released. Well, some will get the chance to see how it plays on the big screen this December.

They're putting them BOTH into the theatres. FoTR:EE 2 weeks before and TTT:EE one week before RoTK debuts.

I didn't like it the first time either, but I bought the EE to see if I liked it better, but haven't watched it until today. I bought it the day it came out and am just watching today after buying TTT (which I haven't seen either) I really want to be a LOTR fan but it's so hard because they're just so damn long!
