catching up with HBO, showtime shows
I've been looking into getting the $60 directv package and I'm trying to figure out how often they replay their orignal shows. These are the shows that I've watched on DVD:
Queer as Folk
The Sopranos
Sex and the City
Oz
Six Feet Under
I would love to watch these as they are aired, but I don't want to skip ahead to the current episodes.

You need to add The Wire to that list. It's just finishing its second season, and they're sure to reair it, so it won't be difficult to catch up. If you need room, just strike Queer as Folk. It's not that good, and it's your only Showtime series, so you won't need to pay for the channel.
You can find schedules for all these series (and their replay schedules) at www.hbo.com and www.sho.com
I guess I should note that The Wire isn't for everyone. If you're not someone who likes to watch what's probably the best series on all of television, then it's not for you.

A couple questions about directv: I think I'm going to try out the current NFL season pass promo for $59 a month, as well as a tivo unit plus regular unit. It would only cost an extra $5 for the additional unit, there are no added costs for the tivo unit? What's a good tivo unit, and which is the best site to purchase from?

Search for countless discussions around here on TiVo + DirecTV. Quite simply, though, make sure you get a combo unit. Don't get a stand-alone TiVo with DirecTV.
The price for TiVo is $5 / month unless you have Total Choice Premier, in which case it's free.
The price for an additional receiver is $5 / month.
Combine the two. If it's your primary receiver and you have Total Choice Premier, it's free. If it's an additional receiver and you don't have Total Choice Premier, it's $10 / month. If one, but not both, it's $5 / month.

Oz finshed its series run last Feb. So there won't be any more episodes. I'd definatly get HBO for The Wire, The Sopranos, and Six Feet Under.
I like Dead Like Me...but there's not enough on Showtime to justify paying for it.

that one. The mini series Out Of Order was also really good.
I'm still pissed they cancelled Odyssey 5.

I think I've figured it all out, but it's $99 for the round dish and $149 for the other one. That's for a tivo and regular unit. Is the round one fine or should I avoid it?

I need the 3LNB oval to get my local channels as well.

I'm looking on the HBO site, but I can't seem to find out when the Wire and Six Feet Under start replaying from the beginning. Can anyone help me out?

One other question, does that $5 tivo fee apply to each tivo unit, or does it cover any number of them? If it would cover two units, does anyone know of a deal for hardware (for new customers) that includes two tivo units and the 3LNB dish?

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Family Business on Showtime. That show is friggin hilarious, if a little strange. I can't wait until it comes out on dvd so I can rewatch it.

If anyone wanted to know, the HBO site says that the Wire starts replaying from the beginning on Friday September 26th at 9pm.

I'll be receiving my directv system, including a Tivo unit, tomorrow. I'll have all of the premium channels for 4 months as part of the promotion, but are any of the movie channels worth having after that? Are they always shown in fullscreen or are some left at the OAR?

I haven't really seen any movies in their OAR other than some showings on the Sundance channel. It's kind of disappointing, but I have got to see some movies that I didn't want to buy on DVD to see. It's more convenient since I don't like renting movies.
