I'll have some more pics to post when I get home from work.

I got a pic of Granny Smith Apple(Vertie) buckled up in my passenger seat.
I also got some pics while driving back to work.

I have a couple of road signs I know I have to get a picture with.
8 Mile, Welcome to Michigan, etc.
One that I'm sure everyone will get a kick out of, and no spoiling it any of you that know which freeway sign I am speaking of

I would post a pic of it, but am too scared to search for it while at work.

Another pic from last night. So chick came up to a guy at our table and swore she knew him from somewhere. She wanted to take a pic w/ the envelope too!:

Well, Tangerine Atomique and I had quite a day. First, I must confess. I was a bad father today and nearly killed him. I had an interview to go to, but rather than bring AT along, I left him in the car. It was overcast, and slightly raining, so I thought he'd be ok. Temperatures were probably in the low 80's. Sadly, while I was in the interview, the sun came out and very nearly killed him. I came back just in time to avert a tragedy. A few minutes under the air conditioning vent revived him, but I'm sorry to say that he is no longer extra pointy.

At any rate, here's today's pictures. We also hung out under a black light to verify that he does indeed posess quite the 'glowing' personality. Sadly, the lady at Spencer's didn't take kindly to me taking photos and I didn't have any cash to slip her to make her go away. Oh well, another time perhaps.

First, here is Tangerine Atomique outside Britannia Manor. For those who don't know, this is possibly the coolest house in all of Austin. It's owned by Richard Garriot, who founded Origin and wrote the original Ultima series of games. It's got a dungeon complete with skeleton, secret passages, an observatory, and gargoyles along the roof, among other things. Of course, I'm not allowed inside and you can't see much from the front.
http://65.65.104.50/crayon/crayon07.jpg

And this is the other side of his house. You can see the observatory easily and if you look closely, some of the gargoyles.
http://65.65.104.50/crayon/crayon06.jpg

We also went up to Mount Bonell park, which has some of the most scenic views of Austin. Here's a really good picture of Atomique melting on a rock, and you can see the unique Loop 360 bridge in the background. This overlooks some of the most expensive property in all of Austin. Atomique wanted to take this picture to show his french buddies that Texas isn't all flat, or all ranches, or all full of cows.
http://65.65.104.50/crayon/crayon08.jpg

Here's one overlooking downtown Austin. I need a better camera and day with less smog.
http://65.65.104.50/crayon/crayon09.jpg

And this is him back home, playing around with his sister Allie.

I didn't say it was the nicest house, I said it was the coolest. From everything I've heard, Richard throws the best parties, and his house is filled with some of the most unusual stuff you'll ever see inside a private residence.

I had trouble finding a page describing his house, but here's (http://www.allenvarney.com/av_brit.html) a letter written by a guy who helped throw one of Richard's Halloween parties. It describes the house (and the party) fairly well.

But, I do know where Michael Dell lives now. In the picture with the Loop 360 bridge, it would be just off to the left. Perhaps I'll drive down there in the next few days and check it out.

The final 4 crayons have shipped. Supposed to go late last week. The shipping dep't has been flogged.

The Adoption cards for these 4 do not have the crayons name on them as they will be named in October. The Adopters can fill it in themselves and give them a name at that time.

- I will figure out today who has received their crayon. Emailed or posted notice of receiving is appreciated.

Well, I found myself in East Moline, Illinois (one of the "quad cities") last week, and they have a bunch of statues of frogs (kind of like Chicago's cow statues a few years back). Here is Unmellow Yellow with a couple of frogs:

http://members.rogers.com/rand616/dvdtalk_files/heat-frog1.jpg
http://members.rogers.com/rand616/dvdtalk_files/heat-frog2.jpg

And closer to Wisconsin, Unmellow Yellow stumbled across the remains of Red-Orange, who had been beaten like John Geoghan and left in the parking lot to melt. Unmellow Yellow is very angry in this photo and was wanting me to document the crime scene so that he could start his investigation.

http://members.rogers.com/rand616/dvdtalk_files/heat-redorange.jpg

As a side note, right after I left the scene of the crime, the hotel groundskeeper came over with a broom and dustpan to sweep him away (though he had to be pried from the asphalt first). The groundskeeper gave me the look of "why were you taking pictures of a crayon?", one I'm sure that some of you have seen.

By the way, if you really want an easy way out of explaining why you are taking a picture of a crayon, just say "it's for scale".

And thanks again Preacher for hosting!

Hasn't happened yet. Sept. 6. In the meantime he's getting a world tour (well, Puerto Rico and NYC, which is pretty much the same thing anyway)

I'm still kicking myself for not having him in time for the blackout. Oh the lost Brooklyn Bridge shots! Oh the humanity!

'Rocky' was won in a departmental drawing by my friend Mark. This was more than a little amusing because the prizes were displayed ahead of time and he had been making fun of it all day. It is a cheap ass lawn ornament.

I work on a web development team and the first year was a little rough. So whenever anyone was ready to go postal, they would tip the squirrel on its side to signify that they needed help and/or to warn everyone else.

One day the squirrel was tipped and fell off the top of the cubicle. Thus, Rocky was tragically beheaded. Mark made him a plaque. A quick trip to the dollar store later, 'Rocky II' became the new WebDev mascot. He looks pretty much the same, except he still has a body and a homemade ID tag to match what employees are required to wear.

That was the long story. Ready for the short story?

As Mark says, "Here in the Midwest, we like to mount squirrels."

;)

Turquoise Blue has gone missing. I suspect foul play. On Monday night me and T.blue(his new nickname) went out on the town. Actually we went to Best Buy, same difference. Anywho, when I got home I placed him on the wall unit next to his adoption card for the night. The next morning he was gone.
I called the police and they said I had to wait 24 hours. All that was left was the adoption sheet. I looked everywhere. I filed a report the next day. They have a suspect in custody now that they are grilling. I'm hoping against hope that t.blue is ok. He's so fragile, you know?

Ok, after Razzmatazz's rough introduction to the family a couple of weeks ago, he has finally started to venture into the bowels of Southern California. No trip to California is complete without some evening rush hour traffic:

We decided to bring home some dinner that defines Southern California, and can only be had here:

Oh man, those are Animal Fries! They put a slice of cheese, some grilled onions, and some 1000 Island on them. I just found out about them a couple of months ago. Just say that you want your fries Animal Style. (You can get a burger Animal Style too... they grill the onions and add pickles to the burger)

Here comes Yellow-Green!

Yellow-Green and I get along famously.... here's why:

Yellow-Green loves classical music. Here, he tries to get an inside look at my violin:

http://wicca.drak.net/wiccanmuse/crayon/violincrayon.jpg

...and an even closer look...

http://wicca.drak.net/wiccanmuse/crayon/violinclosecrayon.jpg

Yellow-Green had a lovely safari outing with Elly the Elephant:

http://wicca.drak.net/wiccanmuse/crayon/ellycrayon.jpg

He also loves the Patriots (and all Boston-area teams!):

http://wicca.drak.net/wiccanmuse/crayon/cheercrayon.jpg

Here, Yellow-Green poses with his favorite books:

http://wicca.drak.net/wiccanmuse/crayon/lotrcrayon.jpg

A nice earthy color, Yellow-Green was also quite at home on a witch's altar:

...and last, but not least, a self-portrait, with Yellow-Green:

I LIED! LAST BUT NOT LEAST IS JACKIE CHAN! MWAH HA HA!

The postman brought colored paraffin goodness to Adrian MI today. Crayon #2 has arrived.

For those of you who don't know, Crayola has introduced four new colors, but has not yet named them. They are running a contest on their website to give the 4 new crayons names.

Thus said, my adoption card is left blank. Crayola is not releasing my baby's name until some time in October, so I had to christen her myself.

She's a wily beauty, from first glance a rich burgundy. I felt I needed to learn more before I could give her an appropriate name. But, I decided that I would not give her a noogie just to see what she looked like on paper.

Gently rubbing her bottom with a scrap of vellum showed that she is actually very pink when she's laid out on paper.

So, until the Crayola gang make a decision, my baby #2 shall be named "Binkundy" in honor o her bichromatic nature. Binky, for short.

Binky is now resting comfortably after her long journey, but wants me to tell everyone that she is anxious to have her picture taken and shown to her siblings and their companions.

I'll retrieve my camera from the office tomorrow and get pics up very soon.

I have 3 offices (Cleveland, Bucyrus and Cincinnati) that each need to be migrated to Ex2K. It is a one night job but I wasn't going to fly all the way from Portland 3 times. I'll have plenty of spare time to kick around. I figure the Rock-n-roll hall of fame and maybe a pro game while I am tooling around.

Well, as I posted (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=4001900#post4001900) last night, Binkgundy (my name for unnamed crayon #2) arrived in the mail. Binky was pretty tired after the long journey, so we decided that today would be a big day.

We went to Toledo and had lunch at Hooters, as I told her a lot of her siblings have, and we met some nice people:

http://www.randomthinks.net/images/hooters.jpg

The drive wore her out, so we went back home and I showed her around the house and my office.

Binky check out my glass working skills:

http://www.randomthinks.net/images/marbles.jpg

She decided that it would be too hot for her to try.

We then went over to the office for a few minutes. I showed her one of the experiments my "Chemistry for Poets" class would be doing. Binky approved.

http://www.randomthinks.net/images/crayolab.jpg

She hung out with an octane molecule, since she is hydrocarbon based too:

http://www.randomthinks.net/images/octane.jpg

and then I showed her Crayonhenge:

http://www.randomthinks.net/images/crayonhenge.jpg

We are going to the Michigan Renaissance Festival tomorrow, and will post more pics then.

No. You draw with one edge of the crayon and it comes out multicolored.

I know...I used to have one as a kid. :) Of course, they're completely useless for drawing. Good for making colorful scribbles though.

He's not kidding either. I spent 20 minutes trying unsuccessfully to convince my wife to pose for a similar picture.

"I don't want my picture on the Internet!"
"But they won't see your face and you'll be clothed."
"I don't care."

I even tried to convince her that such a photograph would enrich our sex life, be a joy and inspiration for thousands of homeless children, and go along way towards repairing the hole in the ozone layer. No dice.

I took a few more today, but in an effort to get my pix up in a timely manner, I'm using my g/f's crappy digital camera. Very few pictures meet my photographic standards, and really, this one doesn't come close either, but I'll post it anyway. The rest just suck too bad to post. :(

Today, I took Wisteria up to Mount Soledad in La Jolla to check out the views. But when Wisteria heard there is a huge cross on the top of the mountain, he was angry. With everyone protesting these days, he felt he should protest too.

Do we have a list of people who still have not received their crayon (aside from the people who received the envelope w/ no crayon)?

Unfortunately, the double trip took it's toll on Crayon. He's got a cracked spine and broke his tail bone. I stablized him but will have to perform surgery over the weekend. :(

I still need an idea of who is still missing what. Any who have not received a crayon yet, please let me know.

Just surprised that all the original shipment went through unscathed and now they are breaking in spite of the prophlactic packaging. :) Perhaps a cigar case would have insured safe delivery.

Also tired of waiting for the 2 month digital camera repair odyssey. Hopefully soon.

Well, Blade and I went about the island today to take some pictures of our crayons. We almost didn't, though, because I gave him the wrong phone number and he couldn't get in touch with me. :o

Anyway, I'm glad we "hooked up" because we got some awesome pictures. You guys will have to live in suspense, though, until he has a chance to upload the pictures.

You will NOT be disappointed!

Ok.

Immortal Zues and I got together on Saturday to do some sightseeing with the crayons.

And yes, it felt as idiotic as it sounds! ;)

First, as is par for the course with Hawaii Otter get togethers, something went wrong:

Here's Laser Lemon and I waiting for IZ to come down from his condo. I called him but got a voice mail message.

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1062115373547_01_waiting_for_iz.jpg

Laser Lemon: He's probably sleeping!!

A little after this, we left to go take some pics on our own, but IZ finally called me

asking where I was. Turns out, IZ emailed me the wrong cell phone number!
I told him this after I picked him up and when I told him the number he gave me, he said,"no,
that's the right number." He's had this phone for over half a year and still doesn't know his
own number!

So first stop is the ever popular Diamond Head Crater.

Laser Lemon and Red Violet near the entrance:

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1061983464930_02_dh_crater_entrance.jpg

At the main hiking trail sign (no we didn't hike up!):

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1062707372877_03_dh_sign.jpg

From inside the crater (photoshopped 2 pics together):
http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1062250825047_04_inside_DH.JPG

As we were leaving the park, we saw some Japanese tourist sitting around waiting for their
tour bus. IZ said we should try to get them to take pictures with the crayon.

IZ: Do you speak English?
Girl on the far left: A little.
Blade: We're sort of playing a game...
Girl: (very tentative) A game?
Blade: Yes, some of our friends through out the states have split up a box of crayons are
taking pictures of these crayons.
Girl: (starting to sound a little scared) A game?
Blade: Yes. (smiling very reassuringly) Just a game. Will you hold the crayons?
Girl: (looks at guy on far right and says something in Japanese, then turns back to us) OK!

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1061593798361_05_DH_japanese_tourists.jpg

We couldn't believe they did it. We also couldn't believe we were asking people to do this!
Crazy, crazy stuff!

Next, we decided to go out near Sandy's for some pictures. If you've ever seen Joe vs. the Volcano,
the following scene (after Tom Hanks' been picked up from the LAX airport) this is where they shot it.
(You can see the cab and Meg Ryan's car in the shot)

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1064424101378_joe_volcano.jpg

IZ's standing where the red X above is:

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1062109921928_06_near_sandy_beach.jpg

I'm standing where the red arrow above is pointing to:

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1064817325375_07_overlook_3.jpg

IZ took this shot of me climbing back up:

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1061830868264_08_climbing_back_up.jpg

Which is probably how I cut my thumb!

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1063713374827_09_injured.jpg

We then went to Aloha Tower Market Place for the obligatory Hooter's picture!

When we drove up, we saw this in front of the parking lot and had to take a picture:

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1062755933638_10_lambroghini.jpg

As we were walking to Hooters, IZ had an inspiration:

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1062703768717_11_gorrilla.jpg

IZ: Hurry! Take the picture before they come out and yell at us!

After we at lunch, we explained what we were doing to our waitress (the blonde between me
and IZ), and she said, "sure, but let me ring the bell so you can get a bunch of us all together!"
The waitress was very cool! :) IZ said we should try to get the waitress to stick the crayons in her
cleavage ala jolt's girlfriend, and after laughing, I said that we'd probably get thrown out of the
restaurant if we did that.

So we paid the bill and our waitress had them ring the bell, and the five girls you see came up.
IZ asked the our waitress if she could hold the crayons (some of the other girls were asking what
was up with the crayons) and she took them, looked at them for a second, and them stuck them in her
cleavage all by herself! We just couldn't believe it.

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1064076106423_12_hooters.jpg

Coolest Hooters waitress in the world:

http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3681649/1062075939960_13_hooters.jpg

Needless to say, Laser Lemon and Red Violet had a very fun filled day!

Okay, I berated hgar78 for having a boyfriend with girl's hands, so I feel obligated to do the same to you. You've got girl's hands! :p

Who is that that you photoshopped onto your head? Is that one of the Monkees?

By the way, Blade got it wrong with the Lamborghini pic. It wasn't just sitting there. We drove up in it. Come on Blade, don't be so shy! Although I must admit that after all your attempts to remain relatively anonymous, you didn't totally airbrush out your license plate.

Anyway, Blade and I had a great time. :eyebrow: He even let me borrow his unwatched, "still in tradeable condition" copy of season 1 of <B>The Sopranos</B> cause he knew that I wanted to watch it. Thanks man!

Wait, how close is it to the "toilet bowl"? I ask because I have a great photo of myself standing next to a sign that is between Hanauma Bay and the toilet bowl that looks just like the one you guys posted. When I saw your photo, I was like, whoa, I know that sign! But I'm sure there's more than one of them around O'ahu. ;)

Ok, I was out in Burbank last week... going out again today... doing some field work and Razzmatazz wanted to join me, so here we go:

Razz puts on the crappy orange vest, grabs a clipboard and a measuring wheel, and off we go!

Razz with the wheel...
http://www.csupomona.edu/~clmartinell/Worker03.jpg

Razz decided that he was too small to properly use the wheel, so he decided to just take notes... he wanted to use himself, but I wouldn't let him!

After work we headed over to Hollywood to visit one of the greatest music stores ever! Amoeba Music!
http://www.csupomona.edu/~clmartinell/Amoeba02.jpg

We tried selling some albums... they gave me $6 for about 10 of the 166 that I had with me. :(

Unfortunately, we've had a very busy few days and haven't given the little darling the attention she deserves.
Hopefully sometime this week I can participate in Bring Your Crayon To Work Day and get some pictures taken.
