Welles' "Chimes at Midnight" - ?

Does anyone know if Chimes at Midnight - (Orson Welles) is available at all in any region? If so, could you point me to an e-tailer where I might find it?

I've heard rumors of this for a while but can't track it down. While you're at it, if you own it, could you give me a quick review of the transfer?

Thanks

Try DVD Go, a Spanish e-tailer, at dvdgo.com. Here's my brief review of the disc:

celluloid:

Can you elaborate on your posting ? Shiv Shankly's post is exactly the reason why I visit DVD Talk, and would pay to visit it. Chimes at Midnight is one of the very best movies ever filmed; we need to see it on DVD and we don't need "traffic cops" (to quote from the Deer Hunter) finding reasons for not getting hold of a legally available disc.

It IS a great movie...

I'd like to tell you that I have it available -- just like DVDGO does -- but I wish not to advertise that fact again, lest I receive another dreaded rebuke chock-full of those vile red letters (the highlighting being for my benefit, I take it).

Mi dispiaci.

Guys, if you don't like the rules you signed up to then take it up directly with Geoff but, as they are there for a reason, I doubt that he'll be much interested in changing them.

... Well, perhaps simply removing my original post and sending me an email letting me know I'd done something wrong would have been a better way to handle the situation than to splash huge scarlet letters across my now-deleted offering...?

After all, I was only trying to help another DVDTalk member who asked specifically where he could find a particular DVD. I didn't believe pointing him to such a place qualified as "promoting" a link -- or as "advertising," as the information was solicited. In my mind, I was simply providing him an alternative to DVDGo, which another poster had suggested, and which remains "advertised" in this thread.

But why continue to make a huge deal out of this? You scolded me, now let's move on.

Apologies to jblackie: I hope that you are able to make use of the information that was posted earlier by Shiv Shankly.<small>

Thanks for the advice as to how I should do my job here.

Please face the facts and don't be tempted to persist in trying to blur the issue: you advertised your own eBay auction and that is forbidden here. It has been common in the past for people to engineer situations where they can make "helpful" posts such as yours for precisely that advertising purpose. We don't distinguish: they are all forbidden in the rules. Other people recommending or mentioning relevant commercial sites is something else entirely and, yes, we do warn and ban people for promoting sites with which they have an association. Likewise, affiliate links are also forbidden.
  • If you'd followed the rules the situation would not have arisen.
  • If I'd taken the trouble to ascertain your private email address only you would have been reminded of the rules.
  • If you'd accepted the "rebuke" in silence or even emailed me with your concerns then there'd be no "huge deal" for anyone to comment on.
You've had your warning; you've shown that you don't agree with the rules or the manner in which they are enforced and you know that you are free to patronise any number of other sites in preference to this one.
