contemporary short story collections?
Are there any contemporary short story collections that you would recommend? I'm not sure that there is a consensus on 'contemporary', but I'm looking for work that was written/published within the last 5-10 years. Oh yeah, and I like a collection of different authors - I know I can find collections by individuals easily.

Night Shift by Stephen King - contains the classic Children of the Corn and the frightening Strawberry Spring that entails...well, you'll have to read it to know.

Ron Carlson writes great short stories. I recommend his Hotel Eden collection. He has another called At the Jim Bridger but I've not read it. I'm sure it's great. I also highly recommend Girl With Curious Hair by David Foster Wallace.
But now I see you are looking for a collection of different authors. . .well. . .I pick up fiction quarterlies and read those, I like Glimmer Train and TinStar to name a couple.

I read a lot of short fiction too (btw, anthologies are by more than one author, and collections have only one writer). My favorite anthology is The Dark Descent; it's excellent but all horror stories, so probably not for everyone. It's a history of the development of horror, so while there is a lot of new stuff, there are older works as well. If you read sf, there are "best of's" put out every year.
You could also subscribe to magazines. I get MF&SF, Asimov's, Weird Tales, and Cemetery Dance, but I'm sure there are others of a more literary bent. Glimmer Train is really good to writers, so if you read those kinds of stories, I think it would be good to subscribe to it.
Also, I know you said you wanted books with a lot of authors, but I read several stories out of Jesus' Son by Dennis Johnson recently, and it is an amazingly good book--especially "Beverley Home." I read it months ago, and still remember lines from it.
