Damn it! Freddy Vs Jason got me to buy FT:13 PT 2 @ 3!

I was doing sooooo good. Waiting out for an (hopefully uncut) and better quality editions of these horror classics for assumingly SE's that will come out next year.

But coming back after seeing Freddy Vs Jason. Jaws agaped and nearly peed in my cheerios. I digressed. I went out and bought Friday The 13 Part 2 and 3. I'll kick myself in the bellbottoms when i have to rebuy these. But for now, I'm in horror classic heaven.

Just finished Friday The 13th part 2 last night. I forgot how much i loved this one! Damn Jason with a burlap bag. He runs! He gets kicked in the nuts! Classic! Love that Amy Steele. They really don't make them like they used to. Forget Scream. This is the real deal.

On a side note with this hilarious illogical set up piece. After Mark, the guy in the wheelcheer who gets it ( nice to know Jason isn't prestigious against butchering a disabled man in a wheelcheer He's a man keeping up with the times! He believes in equality!)
When that girl comes after Mark calling his name. She actually goes upstairs looking for him. Interesting to see Mark manage that. He must have rockets in his wheelchair

Also noticed Jason appears to be a animal lover in this one. After Muffin the wonder dog was sniffing at his feet. He let the dog go. What a nice guy! He may just have a heart somewhere lurking.

Over at Amazon.com all the F13 movies (except Jason X) are currently ranking somewhere in the hundreds among all DVD sales. The Nightmare DVDs aren't doing as well (all below #1,000) but the Nightmare boxed set is also in the hundreds. Towerrecords.com is sold out of all F13 DVDs except the two New Line Jason ones, and they're out of stock or low stock on a few of the Nightmare movies.

You've survived 11 movies (and counting)... but do you think you have what it takes to take on Jason yourself? As the ol' hockey-masked fiend gets ready to do battle with Freddy tomorrow, Cinescape has just announced a super-scary Friday the 13th amateur filmmaker contest. You've got 13 minutes or less to try your hand at "paying tribute to, poking fun at, or having your way with" Jason and the mythology established in the first eight Friday flicks. Deadline for submissions is September 8th, and then on Friday the 19th, the winner will be screened at Maniafest -and better yet for DVD fans, there will be a special midnight screening of the original Friday the 13th at midnight complete with a panel discussion beforehand (with very special guests), plus the revealing of official news about the upcoming DVD box set. Check out the Cinescape website (http://www.cinescape.com/0/News_2.asp) for the full scoop.

---------------------------------

Amateur horror filmmakers, listen up! Here's your chance to pay homage to one of the classic horror films of modern cinema, none other than FRIDAY THE 13TH! Cinescape and Toolbox Productions ar putting together the "Friday the 13th Cut ’Em Up Film Contest". We need filmmakers to create short films (under 13 minutes in length) paying tribute to, poking fun at, or having their way with Jason and the mythology established in the first eight FRIDAY THE 13TH films.

What do you get out of it? Besides the chance to have your short film screened at the Mania Fest genre film festival held next month in Santa Monica, the top three finalists will get $1,300 distributed amongst them! The winning short film will be screened on Friday, September 19 at Mania Fest, at a special FRIDAY THE 13TH panel featuring the movie's filmmakers and stars. Then, at midnight, a special screening of a brand-new print of FRIDAY THE 13TH will take place!

The deadline is September 8th! Get crackin'!

I bet some sort of Jason porno would win that competition...like he stumbles onto a porno set and they try to make him star in the movie. Instead of killing them all, he gets scared and confused

Is a box set confirmed and if so - is it goin' to be Se's? Because after watching Freddy vs Jason I have also had an urge to complete my Friday the 13th collection (I have the first and Jason X). If it's a rumor and not SE's - I will just go out this weekend and pick 'em all up.. As for Nightmare on Elm Street, I've had that box set since it came out and I still adore it (well, part 1 , 3 and New Nightmare).

Friday 2 is the best one. It has amy steel. Still the series best heroine. Plus seeing jason run around that quickly and wearing that potato sack. Some neato kill scenes, too.

The ending is a bit confused only because the actor who played her boyfriend quit the film in the middle of production!

Hopefully an uncut more gory version will surface. Perhaps with amy steel commentary.

I'm assuming retail price is 14.99 since DDD has them at 9.36

After seeing FvJ tonight. I wonder if the MPAA would let the original Fridays slip by uncut with an R rating today?

I think they could be R rated uncut...& heck FvJ was extremely violent & gory. So if thats R,i don't see why the others should not be as well uncut. Then again,it's the MPAA,so you never know.

I just hope the uncut verions do see the light of day, either unrated or R rated-uncut if the MPAA loosens up.

I completely agree. While many of the Friday films are a lot of fun (while simultaneously being god awful movies) the 2nd one is the only one that I actually find kind of creepy/scary.

Like the original poster, I had the urge to run out and buy all of the flicks, but I'll bide my time and wait for SE's. I've got the first flick and the last two right now, and there's enough coming out this month and this fall to keep me occupied. Eventually, if it looks like SE's aren't coming as soon as we'd hoped, I may break down and buy the existing discs.

Is Part 2 the one that ripped off all the murder scenes from Mario Bava's Twitch of the Death Nerve or was that the first one? I can never remember....

well, that's because buying them separately is just stupid. Only the box set has the option of watching the end of Freddy's Dead in 3D (the individual release has no 3D) and the bonus disc that only comes in the box set is the best part.

So if tNoES box set is selling as well as the individual releases of Ft13, then the same number of copies of the dvds are going out the door........possibly more Nightmare dvds depending on the actual # of individual releases being sold.

Has a Friday box set actually finally been announced? I must have missed that if it has. I've never been a Jason fan really so probably missed it. I like Mike and Freddy.

FvsJ is just what the doctor ordered this summer, an old school blood bath with smarts. The NoE Box is a must own although I have never been a huge Jason fan I have seen them all several times, 4 and 6 being my favorites. Jason rocks in the new movie though so I could see buying a box set if they ever do it right.
Columbia House had a box set of all the Friday the 13th movies it wasn't anything but the individual releases up to part 8.

The information from Cinescape doesn't mention Paramount but I would imagine they'd have to be involved in that promotion, so their plans for SE's seems to be a boxed set. This may make more sense anyway, so they can leave the old versions in print and on the shelves for those who don't want a whole set. Plus, a high priced boxed set will help keep the hopefully unrated movies out of the hands of kids. I'm sure Paramount wishes now they had timed this to go along with Freddy Vs Jason. Cha-ching! A horror convention in NJ this January is supposed to feature stars from all the F13 movies. This probably ties into the promotion for the boxed set. Between all the fans who have waited forever for this and all the renewed interest in Jason, Paramount could make a mint off this if they do it right.

There does seem to be a lot more interest in Jason than there is Freddy, due to Freddy Vs Jason. Personally, I watched 'Freddy Vs Jason' and kept thinking how I wanted a new 'Friday the 13th' film, not a 'Nightmare on Elm Street'.

I think part of the reason this attracts some new attention to the FT13 series. Is its sort of about the Jason of the old. At least back storywise. And we havent seen that since maybe FT13 part 7-8. Part 9 he can transform different bodies and 10 he's in space. lol

Freddy's character been about the same (for the most part)We seen him in New Nightmares which was about 9 years ago. While to go back to the old jason, your going back almost 20 years. Yeah he still seems immortal, but the backstories are a breath of fresh air.

Well, I went ahead and bought Part 2 & 3. I forgot so much about these films.. Part 2 is still a good film, but three is downright terrible.. I was bored the whole time..-shrugs-

On a related note: Is anyone else having problems finding all of them at local stores? I am having problems finding 4, 5 ,6 and 7. It seems they are selling a lot better now than ever before.

I finally got to see the movie last night, and I LOVED IT! I might go see it again.
Interesting that you say it was extremely violent and gory. I agree with you 100%. That is why it amazed me that there were no less then 10 kids under the age of 9 in that movie theater. One couldn't have been older then 3. I should know, I have a 5 year old. It amazes me how irresponsible some parents can be. One parent though, finally got smart (about 45mins into the movie), and left the theater with his daughter who (I kid you not) was unwrapping a toy doll that they must've just bought at the toy store in the mall.
It was a freaking day care center in there.
Unbelievable.

I was thinking the attention going to Jason may have a little to do with people already owning Freddy movies or having seen them recently, with Jason being a little more on the obscure side. Plus the good Jason films (1-4) pre-date Freddy.

According to a Martin Blythe post at the HTF, Paramount is hoping to make some sort of announcement about the new DVDs at Maniafest.

The details for the upcoming DVD box set will be officially announced then, along witha screening of a brand-new print of the original Friday the 13th. Should be a lot of fun.

Cheers,
Erik

If that's the case - this is one I'll double dip on. Depending on the transfer and special features....That's saying a lot - as I don't double dip.

I guess I'll sell 'em or something.

There are some very cool, interactive special features planned, but it is all TBA of course. As a fan myself, I can say I am actually excited about this set being released.

Cheers,
Erik
