Anything new on "Donnie Darko" 9/2 re-release?
Somehow this one passed me by, but I happened to catch it on cable this weekend and loved it. I went to order the dvd and noticed several stores listed a re-release on 9/2/03. Is the new release going to have anything new, or is it just a standard re-release of the same disc?
I couldn't find much info, but buy.com lists an "Anatomy of a scene featurette" that doesn't seem to be on the current release (as far as I can tell).
Anyone have any info?
Thanks,
Roy

concur that the current disk is very very solid. great commentaries, featurettes, and videos.
sound and transfer are very solid as well.
at the price quoted above, i'd pick it up at the merest passing whim.

The Roberta Sparrow book extra adds tremendously to a second viewing. This has to be one of the best DVD values around, and one of the best films of the last few years.

Actually this could use a new transfer and 2-disc SE (moving the extras to disc 2 and adding some would make for better A/V on the feature disc, and they could even add DTS). I was distressed to see print flaws (some in the first 2 minutes) and too much image softness on this DVD. Given its cult popularity now it deserves a new edition.

Hopefully this will be a new release that includes the "Anatomy of a scene" featurette - I would love to see this. The "Tears For Fears" scene is what really drew me in and made me sit up and take notice.

Just to clarify -- 'Mad World' is a Tears for Fears song but it's covered by Gary Jules in the movie. (And it's a great cover -- I actually prefer it over the original.) I must have watched that final scene a dozen times now.
And for those of you who haven't seen it but are thinking of picking it up, do not expect to just sit back and watch. You need to get in there and have your brain fully engaged if you hope to make ANY sense of this movie. This is a great movie and the director makes a valiant effort, but he ultimately fails in bringing the plot to any comprehensible conclusion (and it's this failure that explains the low price for the DVD). Still, this is a movie that is very much worth watching -- even if just to experience its emotional 'feel'.

It was nearly impossibly to read on my tv screen, but it was much easier on my computer.
