I actually prefer the the baby harp seal....

Seriously... the one with the red seal is the DTS version. You lose the documentary but gain a terrific sonic experience. The choice is yours.

then ignore the dts version, or in other words don't get the version with the red banner at the top.

If you have any intention of upgrading to a digital surround system in the near future, get the DTS. Otherwise, the Dolby Digital version will be just fine.

DTS all the way. You don't want to double dip it if someday you upgrade your system.

Oh, man. Are you serious? I'm glad you said something. Our Best Buy had like 5 of them yesterday. I think I'll pick them up on my way home from work and make a nice little profit on ebay.

After all, it is a limited edition - I think there were only 10 gigagazillion made.

I've had the DTS version of this for almost 3 years. Last week I finally upgraded from a Pro-Logic Pioneer receiver with 3 speakers + sub to a complete Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1 system.

I got a Harman/Kardon AVR325 reciever and last night I popped in the DTS Saving Private Ryan and WOW. It sounded like WWII was happening in my apartment, I bet the neighbors loved it . That soundtrack rocks. I don't know how the DD version compares but the DTS

The DTS track uses a different master than the DD track. I have never done a comparison, but by all accounts the DTS sounds better because of this.

The doc is pretty good and is one of the few great documentaries concerning WW2 so go for the DD edition.

DTS is probably the better choice for those of us with the right home theatre hookups, since it is one of the best DTS soundtracks out there. However, if you don't have the setup, and have no plan to, then you should go for the documentary version.

Better speakers?

All I know is that the DTS is like a tidal wave of pure beautiful sound.

i heard that even if you don't have the surround sound setup, that the DTS version atleast does SOMETHING to improve the sound over the other version, even if slightly, is that true??

I'm pretty sure that if you don't have a DTS decoder, you will just hear dead air on the DTS track (but the disc does include a DD 2.0 track as well)

Someone once told me a DTS track would blow out my speakers if I didn't have a decoder... I have a decoder now... far as I know anyways... but I haven't tried any of the DTS discs I have. To be honest with everyone here, I think DTS is all well and good, but Dolby tracks, when done well, can sound as nice as a DTS track when done well. It's all in the mix. That's not to see that the DTS tracks don't have some pretty nice mixes a lot of the time! in the end, I normally will pick up the dolby version if an extra feature is missing, or it is cheaper.
