Search engine on this web site stinks!!!
Geoff, I'm really getting fed up with the stinking search feature on this web site. Seriously, I tried to do a search for "Irreversible" in the thread titles on any forum with any date and I get "NOTHING". I know it's B.S. becuase there are 3 threads already about this movie in movie talk. GGGGRRRRRR.
Not to mention, I think it was Groucho who said "Isn't it ironic that we cant' even search for word "dvd" in dvd talk because of the 3 letter limit in the search engine".

Searching for "Search" in this forum works, though! Some of the "search sucks" threads of days past:

We're all very aware that the search capability isn't up to snuff, and there's not really much Geoff can do about it until vB 3 comes out.

I always knew that you couldn't search for 3 letter words, but not being able to find title of movie like Irreversible is just down right inexcusable.
Is the search feature easier to use at Home Theater Forum? I rarely visit that site but if it's easier to find info there, I might have to defect.
PS. - Now I can't bitch at anyone for for not doing a search.

vBulletin's search is inherently flawed and is not limited to the headaches we're experiencing at DVD Talk. vBulletin.com's forums overflow with complaints, and it's probably the most universally disliked aspect of the software.

Can't really argue about how bad search is. I agree it leaves a lot to be desired. Can't say everything will be cured with the next version of the forum, but I'm sure it'll be an improvement from where it is now.
I do know that the new version of the forum software is google friendly, so there may be an option to do a search of the site aided by google... But we'll see.

I think there's a ten character limit on the search too.
Try searching on "monica" or "bellucci" or "rape" or the director's name, and you'll probably get what you want.
I wonder how long until Groucho starts a thread about all the Irreversible threads overflowing the Feedback forum?

Why not at least put a note on the search page that states the min and max character length for searches? If people had known there was a 10 char max length, they could at least trim their searches to fit.

There are some notes on searching in the FAQ thread in this forum, though I'm not sure how up to date it is. Also, I don't remember if the FAQ is still correct about the wild card situation (they're working again).
And once the new version is in place, the search rules are likely to change again.
Modifying the standard pages is, I think, something that has to be done manually. And done everytime a change is made. Since the "under the hood" site maintenance is basically done by just one guy (Geoff), these kind of modifications can be very time prohibative.
jolt, I'm a married man, stop hitting on me.
