Sinbad/Harryhausen, which best?
I'm planning on buying some older Sinbad movies, mainly for Harryhausen's effects. Can anyone give me their opinion on the best ones and why? Thanks.

My personal favorite is 7th Voyage (just thinking about it has the amazing Bernard Herrman theme stuck in my head).
I rate Jason and the Argonauts a near second, and all the others are at least a notch below.
Why do I think these are the best? Mainly because of the fantastical stories, which makes them more than sfx movies.
Effects-wise, I think 7th Voyage is the best -- it features the very scary Cyclops and Dragon.

7th Voyage of Sinbad is my favorite it has Torin Thatcher ("The Crimson Pirate") as the mad magician who wants some shell of Roc, and Barony AKA the genie from the lamp.

And frankly - I'd want these movies, regardless if they were pan and scan or not. They're that good.

7th Voyage is far & away the best Sinbad film.

I guess I like 7th Voyage the best, but they're all great and worth owning--I just wish they wouldn't repeat the same extras on every disk.

Full screen and OAR are not mutually exclusive, but most of these are anamorphic widescreen anyway. Gulliver is 4:3, but that seems to be the correct aspect ratio for it (technically 1.37:1, but close enough).

be open mat . These films were made in the late fifties or early 60's, where 1:37:1 would be fairly rare.

So not a good reason to avoid these.

While 7th Voayge is the best of them (and the BEST fantasy movie IMO) the other two are good as well. Golden has great effects and while a little early 70ish effects in there, the fight with the 6 armend statue of the end is incredible.
Eye of the Tiger is the least of the three, but it's Harryhausen, so it's still is great.

Aside from being a genius, Harryhausen was also pretty consistent, IMO---there's not a huge dropoff in quality in any of these. 7th Voyage might be my favorite, but they're all great. First Men in the Moon and Mysterious Island are two of my other favorites.
