the sticker could tear off the entire top part of the artwork on the case since it is just a cardboard flap with the artwork on it.:(

This is on DVD?!? Crap, I was still waiting for the theatre release. I really need to get back in the loop...
That sucks about the sticker. :( I wish they'd only put them on the side of the case.

it wouldn't matter where they put the sticker with this case. it could still damage the artwork.

I went to Best Buy and Target today during lunch. Best Buy is selling a cardboard case version, but the ones at Target are in a clear plastic keep case.

Any idea how much it was going for at Target?

I was just getting ready to post on this. I was super careful, and still screwed the case up. Not only do you have to beware of the sticker on the outside. You have that stupid magnetic strip on the inside.
I wish whomever the S.O.B. is that thought up glue on a paper product should be taken out and hung up by his gonads. I am a collector and this ruins a big part of it for me. This goes for the magnetic strip on paper also.
If you can't tell I am annoyed, and now going to write Lions gate hate e-mail.

Tape / Glue on paper / cardboard is a bad idea.
Common sense.

what idiots. it's common sense. I tried to do it with care...like always...but it still peeled off some of the artwork. btw, is there supposed to be a booklet or something? I have an inner sleeve but nothing in it. strange.

GUTWRENCHER: mine didn't have anything in it either, just the pocket. And it was 19.99 at Target (in the case). But I got mine at BestBuy for 17.99 (cardboard).

thanks. I could care less about worthless inserts with chapter stops....but if they included a pocket sleeve...something should go in the sleeve. these are usually made for collector booklets and artwork cards. anyway...no big deal.

Looks like I'll pay a couple extra $$ and pass up the paper @ BB. Since I'm going next door to 'em I was thinking of checking at Wally World and see which packaging they have.

Picked mine up at Wal-mart. Came in clear plastic keep case. Possible that the cardboard cases are missing an advert for Zombie's new album of greatest hits w/bonus dvd coming out this halloween.
Note: went in to local FYE and they had it for $14.99(reg. $19.99) after mail-rebate. It is the cardboard case.

I opened mine, and didn't have any problems pealing it off, without so much as a mark on my case. Glad you guys gave me a heads up, else I would have thought nothing of it, and ripped it right off..

I just got back from Wally World. Guess which movie has a nice cute EMPTY place on the shelf? I'm sure they'll get more... at the very least I'll pick it up this weekend at Target.

I had the exact same problem with Kingpin (also a Lion's Gate product). I started a similar thread but most folks thought it was my fault.......
I wrote to a number of Lion's Gate addresses with no response. DDD (where I ordered it) also said it was my fault and would not send a replacement.

I usually get sick of people complaining about dvd cases that certain films come in, but i have to jump on the bandwagon here. This case sucked. And much like a lot of others here,i tore some of the artwork too. To get off the subject, i was suprised how much i liked the film, wasn't anything groundbreaking in the horror genre but i thought it was entertaining.

I wish I had read this thread before going to buy it. I ripped off half of the top of the box, I was sooooo extremely pissed off!
Is there a way to contact Lions Gate and get a new case/box?
P.S. There are some places selling it in a clear keep case (i.e. Target & Blockbuster)

Thanks for the heads up, guys! This forum never ceases to amaze me.
After reading this, I decided to check out WalMart to see if they had Ho1,000C. Sure enough - they had the clear plastic cases - and selling them for $17.44 (beats BB's $17.99). I didn't think ultra-family friendly WalMart would even carry a title like this.
Again, thanks.

I have an issue of WHY there's even a security sticker on DVDs (let alone 3 of them sometimes) at all! All they're doing is alerting thieves that they have a better chance of getting caught!
Shouldn't they NOT have the stickers on so it will be easier to catch the thieves and get them off the streets (or at least punish them in order for them to "learn their lesson" over something as trivial as stealing a DVD)?

The security stickers on the top and sometimes side and bottom are only there to show that the CD/DVD has been opened. They have no other purpose.

Thankfully I peeled mine off with no damage, phew. Checked out Target first but they weren't carrying it here... no unrated and bad packaging, Lion's Gate really shirked the effort on this release!

From what I've heard the stickers serve another purpose. When DVDs first came out (sans stickers on the side and bottom), shoplifters were simply slitting open the case and removing the DVD. The presence of the stickers on the side and bottom is supposedly to dissuade this. Apparently, retail stores wanted this "feature" because of the shoplifting.
IMNSHO, it's stupid. The retail stores should beef up security and the studios should not bow to the pressure of the retailers.
That said, I don't plan on buying House of 1000 Corpses (it was okay, but not worthy of a purchase), but I do want Kingpin. I am going to be extremely annoyed if my case gets screwed up because of some goddamn unnecessary stickers.

I wanted to post my thanks about alerting everyone to this issue. Definitely wanted to cardboard case, not the plastic one, and I probably would've ripped mine too if I hadn't read this thread. Mine came off real nice, with a lot of patience. I slit the sticker in 2 at the top, then very slowly and peeled it back (not towards me, but towards the edge of the cover) and it came off without a hitch.

Are the two versions (Target/BB) identical? I figured the DVD itself is the same, but does the Target version have any sort of censored/missing artwork?

I had noticed the different packaging, with Wal-Mart and Blockbuster being the only two where I saw clear keepcases. I just wanted to get confirmation that the two packaged versions were the same disc (since WM & BB would be the places that carry censored versions).

Yeah ditto on that warning about the sticker, I peeled mine off slowly and everything came off nicely with no damage. I got mine for $14.99 only at Best Buy. Pricematched Fry's..Not bad!! Oh and by the way, no insert in mine either..Odd

got lucky - mine d/n damage the cover art - i sliced the sticker w/ a razor and took each of the severed ends and pealed them slowly away from the sides. usually do this with the regular packaging to open them more quicly and with minimal damage to packaging.
weird about the sleeve and no insert

This is odd, I bought this movie yesterday. In the cardboard sleeve. After reading this thread about the sticker I was preparing myself for slowly stripping it off. But looking at the package in the store I saw that there was no security sticker. there was the little magnetic stub on the cellephane, but nothing actually stuck to the case. All the copies on the shelf were like that.

I decided just to go to Wal*Mart and fork over the extra $2 (Yeah, "Guaranteed Low Prices"...). It was a clear keepcase where you can see the chapters when you open it (like Adaptation). It also came with an insert about Zombie's new CD. I deifnitely think the keepcase is the way to go.
Anyone have any pics of the inside of the cardboard case?

08-15-03, 11:45 PM
Here's some pics I found on eBay. Credit goes to "smhoapres."
Now I'm glad I got the keepcase. The cardboard cases don't show the chapters?
Also, on the keepcase version it doesn't have that one quote on the bottom front of the case...

Hey, the picture on the actual disc I have is of Baby, not Tiny like the one in the pic. Does anyone else have something different... like they made one's of each family member? If so I guess I'll have to dash out to the store and buy and arm load of copies. Gotta catch 'em all.

The cardboard cases do show the chapters. its on the other side of that dude on the right (I forgot his name)..ouch now that i see a pic of what that security sticker did, I'd be pissed if that happened to mine!...Peel em off real slow.....Just like Axl Rose says, "Just a littleee patienceeeee"

I also noticed there is another version.
Mine is the keepcase. It doesn't have the critics quote on the front cover. I got it at WalMart.
I went to Target and I saw the keepcase but it has the quote on it.
There are also the cardboard versions...
And some of them have different disc art.
All of this and they couldn't bring us an Unrated cut? -ohbfrank-
