How to get to 10*... Hmm....

First thing that pops into my head is training everyone's weakness. For the most part, I have a team of clones where everyone is good at every skill.

Second thing is not to worry about keeping any one skill maxed out. That is just a waste of pie IMO because you lose those last few skill points very quickly.




Your pitcher can't get past 110... Hmm...

Unless he's a crip, you should be able to get him ranked #1 in throw skill, then max him out in pitching, and you should be able to get beyond 110. But I also minimize DT (with FPS set to 99999, but this varies on your processor), which works great for me, but doesn't always work for others. And to be on the safe side, make sure he can run well as well since people have shown that run skill can add a few extra MPH.



Previously obsessing over power... Hmm...

Agreed. Go for the balanced team. My benchmark for power is everyone hitting 400+ feet on a consistent basis (80% of the time). Once everyone is there, give them just enough power to maintain that distance, and dedicate the rest of their hitting to skill and contact.



Backup pitcher... Hmm...

If your backup pitcher can't hit, then scrap him as a backup pitcher. You need pitchers than can not only pitch and throw well, but also retain hitting really well.



Final thought...

If anyone on your team can't hit for power, put him in the red cage for a few weeks. If he STILL can't catch up to the rest of the team in the sort of power skill, then send him packing for the Mexican league and sign a rookie. Everyone on your team HAS to be able to hit for a decent average (+.400?) and for power (>= 1 HR for every 2 games). And you'll need some guys who are close to 1 HR/game.

REG, first off....Elf is definitely one to listen to....

Here is my info. I recently took over a 9* team from someone else, he had mentioned that he could never get them OVER THE HUMP to 10* so I began doing a blanket train system similar to your 4 day system. However I would yo-yo up and down in the top 100 but never getting that elusive 10th star.

Finally, after a couple seasons of that I remembered WEAKNESS training....well I started closely analyzing what each player REALLY needed by using the SORT lists as a guide and began using partial pies to accentuate their skills....within another week and a half I had HIT THE MAGIC 10* mark. Weakness triane once you get them to 9*, at 8* you CAN begin weakness training but I wouldn't start weakness training until about 9*, at 8* I think you can still blanket train your team as long as you have a good rotation.........

Here is what I used:
This is for 48 hour pies for regulars keeping in mind I have 3 pitchers that have their own schedule.

Day 1 : RUN
Day 3 : CONTACT
Day 5 : POWER
Day 7 : THROW
Day 9 : SWING SKILL
Day 11: POWER
Day 13: Fielding
DAY 15: Contact
DAY 17: POWER
Day 19: RUN
Day 21: Swing Skill
Day 23: POWER
Day 25: Throw
Day 27: Contact
Day 29: Power
Day 31: Field
Day 33: Swing
Day 35: Power


REPEAT. Long but it hit all my skills. Once you are at 9* or a SOLID 9* I think Weakness training helps ALOT....as well as keeping your pitcher skills high on the OFF Days.

Realm reminded me of one more thing.

If anyone SUCKS at one or more skills, put him on the bench indefinitely, and work on those skills repeatedly until he doesn't suck any more. Always bench those who need big help in certain areas. My 3 teams are at 10*, and I still do this, even if they are awesome hitter. (note that on the Destroyers, Link is benched until further notice, even though he's my 3rd best hitter.)

I need to clarify FURTHER my training....WHEN I got to 9* and wanted to get to 10* I changed from training every 48 to every 24....guess that was a BIG thing that I did not mention.

As Twikoff replied 48 hour training is not really advised when you live in the UPPER echelon of the PL's or Preimership either....but if you are building back up I wouldnt worry about it :)

If we say no I can put a team the other four teams can beat in there. It seems like OMD won't have a problem with this.

I'm going to try to start the games before midnight. These last two nights have about killed me trying to get eveyone signed up. :wink:

I've played my 8/12 & 8/13 games, Uncle Ernie is locked down, I still have 4 CC games to play today (did the DTSL league games first since I went past midnight).

Ok.. I'm trying to ditch my ST team, 229383, and someone offered me a Monster for it... I asked for "any stadium", but this was the one I didn't really want.

A month or so ago, I might of could used one for the <s>Slashers</s>, but now that I have focused on batting they are starting to put them out with a little regularity. Not quite done yet, but so far they are at 3.8 HR/game this season.

Would there be any reason for me to want the Monster Stadium?

I don't plan on having any more low * teams <small>(unless JNeilsen decides to ditch 913 ;))</small>.

Though it could be worth it if I made the Premiership some day and installed it just to piss off Fred. :lol:

I should be back in the game tonight or tomorrow... still trying to get my computer all up and running. It was wonderful to plug in a brand new machine and get infected with the latest worm within seconds. Since I didn't know about the worm, I assumed it was a screwed up computer, but Windows Update fixed it and I later saw the patch etc. Now that it's been cleaned, it's running like a charm. Once I get email back up, etc I will FINALLY be installing smallball and coming off vacation. Then I leave town for a week on Sunday and have to go back on :(

My team still hasn't recovered from the smallball issues. They are still having trouble staying a 9* for more than a couple hours. The list of things to work on for my smallball team seems to be growing by the minute.

I trained in power today and I think I only had 3-4 players hit the ball more than 350. -ohbfrank-

Well, not tons, really, since my team sucks so bad, but you get the idea. Just keep in mind that training and game play are two different birds.

I hate to admit it, but I think I've stumbled on the answer to what my team needs. I'm just not sure if I should go that route because I'm so used to losing, I'd hate for everyone here to think my body has been taken over by some sort of alien.

Speaking of batting order...

How does everyone determine who goes where? I understand that "generally" your power hitter is #4 and your Mr. Speedy is #1. However, this is smallball, and everyone should be able to hit homers.

I've noticed that some guys don't like change. My #9 hitter was hitting over .400, so I moved him up several spots. Now he's dropping drastically.

Anyway....I don't know what I'm talking about.

That's about the same with me. The T-storms finally held 9* for the whole day yesterday. But my hitting is extremely bad. They only have 3 batters with an avg over .300.

I'm right there with ya fleegs and mot. The Contractors hold their 9* now but have only shown up on the top 100 list once since the crash. I used to go between 10* and 9*.

On the good side of it I did get to play with my benchie rotation a bit. Now everyone plays and are on pretty equal ground. Not as good as I was but getting closer :)

B2K: I generally put one of my faster and better hitters at leadoff. I put my best hitter at #3 so he'll get up to bat in the first inning. Then after that I throw my power guys in the middle of the order. The sukekeke hitters then go down to the bottom of the order. Of course all this changes depending on who's hot and who's cold.

ok.. just wanted to let everyone know.. (and get opinions)

corrie (HTQ) has decided that because of how busy we are right now.. she is going to either remove her team from the league for awhile or put them on vacation indefinitly.. she also was planning to put a holiday ticket on them...

because her teams dont hit many homeruns.. i convinced her just to set them on a 100% power training schedule for the next couple weeks while she takes the time off.. that way if she doesnt have time to train, i can run their autotrain for them..

i know we suggested that das put his team on vacation rather than taking them out of the league.. and just having to add more scrub teams in.. so I wanted to see if you guys would rather her put them on [v] or remove them for awhile.. she is cool with either idea..

I actually probably should do the same with my teams.. but there is no way I can force myself to not play my games.. so Ill keep going and just let my teams continue to plummet in the meantime :D

twikky: I have no problem with HTQ being on vacation for a season. If this was last year then I'd ask for them to be dropped for the season but since we can't fill 3 divisions I think it'll be better just to leave HTQ in.
