I've seen it. It's wonderful. Orson Welles narrates and it has some great interview footage with Ford in Monument Valley. Sorry I don't have an DVD info.

I saw it a while back on AMC, it's excellent. I'd buy it on it's own, but it would make a great special feature if Warner Bros. ever re-releases The Searchers as part of their "Legends" line.

a rare treat indeed...
Was it really shown on AMC? That would have bee a rare treat and a reason to break out your video recorders! The reason this is unavailable on DVD and even VHS, for that matter, is that many of the film clips at the end-- a lengthy montage of moments in Ford's films-- are tangled up in rights limbo.
I had the pleasure of seeing this in the presence of Mr. Bogdanovich and a handful of Western/Ford fans as part of a Ford retrospective at the Miami Film Festival a few years ago. Bogdanovich was pissed off about the paltry presence in the audience but this was Miami-- land of the cultural vacuum! It was a rare treat to see this film because it is rarely ever screened and only on the film festival circuit, so I was told by the festival director.

I would not know. It sort of surprised us here. The only way I would think is to check a John Ford website that follows these sorts of things, if there are any. But maybe AMC will play it again or another similar channel. You can check their programming guides on-line or even write their programming departments through their websites-- most likely. Good luck!

If I wanted to make money, I'd make it a boxset exclusive with some of Ford's finer films. I forget where I saw some clips, but Ford was tremendous as a curmudgeon. Looked like Bogdonavich cornered or somehow tricked him into it, he seemed really pissed at the whole prospect of the interview in what I've seen.
There is some brief, but very interesting allegations and insight into Bogdonavich in "Easy Riders and Raging Bulls" from Peter Biskind. Bogdonavich seems to feel Ford short circuited a Western to star Fonda, James Stewart and John Wayne as sort of an "End of the Western" western. It may be his famous ego at work, but the entire premesis sounded intriguing.

It was shown on AMC as part of their Film Preservation Festival back in 1999. This was back when AMC was dedicated to classic films and they showed three days worth of Ford's films. I tried to tape the whole thing and only caught "Directed By" by accident.
