Well, it's obvious your Piston-hater bias is showing through here.

:D

How did I even get a reputation of being a hater?

ok, so she can sue for having consentual sex with a guy and contracting a disease? Did she ever hear of safe sex? It goes both ways. If he had no prior knowledge that he had herpes, this is totally baseless. And another thing. Nice how she can accuse him and drag his name through the mud, yet she has the protection of being known as Jane Doe. If I were Cliff Robinson's lawyers, I'd drag this bitch's name and reputation through the mud as a NBA groupie whore. Stupid money grubbing people.

To quote a great man:

It's obvious that your Piston-hating bias shields you from any objectivity towards Cliff. I'm not going to debate with you anymore as it is a waste of my time and everyone reading this thread. Try to see things without pushing your anti-Piston agenda next time.

BTW, I loved him 'PT-109', and thought it was great the way he took down Begelman......

I met Cliff Robinson in 1989 when he was a rookie. I did not contract herpes from him.

So exactly what are the legal implications of this? If I have sex with someone and get an std from them, are they now liable for a monetary settlement because they gave me the disease? I can understand if the infectee has previous knowledge of the std, but if they are unaware that they are infected, how can they be held liable?

On a side note, does anyone besides me think that the women could have planned this from the beginning? Sleep with a bunch of wealthy men, and hopefully contract a relatively minor std to get boatloads of money?

IIRC, didn't some 'Annie' in the Great White North sue an NHL player for something similar about 5 years ago.......?

Or wasn't there some sort of scandal regarding an NHL player and an STD....?

Wish I had more specifics; for some strange reason I can remember exactly where I was driving when I first heard the story on WEEI in MA (128S ramp to 1S, in Peabody), but that's about it.....

Just as an aside herpes is more than just a minor std, but just a technicality. ;)

To quote some cheesy jokes from my professor.

Herpes is the gift that keeps on giving.
What's the difference between herpes and a marriage?
-Herpes lasts forever.

Seriously though, I also think that she could of planned this whole thing from the beginning. Very plausible.

I guess the "legal basis" would be trying to establish that he knew he had herpes and intentionally concealed it from the woman, and endangering her health because of this deceit.

I dunno...just a guess.

I think this happened to Juwan Howard didn't it ? Right after he got traded from Dallas to the Nuggets, several women in Dallas sued him for this same thing.

NBA ROUNDUP: Mistrial declared in case vs. Robinson

August 12, 2003

BY CHRISTY ARBOSCELLO
FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

A mistrial was declared Monday in the case of a 28-year-old woman who claimed Pistons forward-center Clifford Robinson gave her a sexually transmitted disease during a three-month relationship.

Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Colleen O'Brien declared the nearly year-long case a mistrial because lawyers for the plaintiff, Jamie Reeves, dropped her as a client. The judge also told Reeves she will have to pay $180,000 to Robinson for court fees and find a new lawyer if she wants to pursue the allegations ( rotfl ), Robinson's attorney and agent, Bradley Marshall, said Monday in Pontiac.

A Sept. 15 court date was set to determine if she will pursue the case.

Robinson's lawyers said that although Reeves said she was a sales consultant for her own company, she was identified by witnesses as a topless dancer in Inkster and Detroit, ( rotfl ) said one of Robinson's attorneys, Bruce J. Lazar of Farmington Hills. Reeves also would not declare a city of residence, he said.

Reeves' former lawyers, from the Elbert Hatchett law firm in Pontiac, could not be reached for comment.

Reeves sought $20 million from Robinson after their relationship ended in January 2002, saying Robinson gave her herpes.

After Reeves filed suit, Robinson counter-sued for defamation of character. Marshall said Reeves gave Robinson the disease.

"It's unfortunate it had to come this far," Robinson said. "I was put in a situation where I had to defend myself."

Marshall, who has a Seattle-based law firm and worked with Lazar, said it's common for people to make claims against celebrities for money, and the celebrities generally settle out of court to avoid embarrassment. Robinson hopes this case helps prevent people from making false claims against celebrities, he said.

Although Robinson said he is pleased with the court decision, he will be relieved when the whole process is over.

"I feel good, but I won't truly feel like it's over until it's over," Robinson said. "I would love to thank all the people out there who showed their support."

Too bad more of these frivolous and manufactored lawsuits do not end this way. I mean $10 mil for an 80 year old lap, please!!
