Dickie Roberts - Former Child Star

David Spade's new flick... trailer available at quicktime.com.

Looks funny to me. I'm sure most people here are too good to go see a movie like this, but not me. Looks like Joe Dirt 2 or something. I chucked at a few spots in the trailer, that's enough to get me to go see it.

Wasn't there a Michael J. Fox movie with the same plot a few years ago?

Adam Sandler is behind it so I'm already there.

Spade is at his best when he's being smarmy and slightly obnoxious, like on "Just Shoot Me" or his Spade on America bits from SNL. Joe Dirt and the movie with the dog didn't capture that. Portraying a once-spoiled washed up child star is right up his alley.

Honk!

Life With Mikey is the one you are thinking of.

Michael J. Fox stars as a child actor who has grown up, and grown out of his popularity. He now runs a talent agency with his brother, specializing in child acts, trying to discover the next child star. He gets more than he bargained for when he recruits a child pickpocket to be his next "star."

Looks pretty funny. It sucks that they chose David Spade instead of Paul Walker but still looks pretty good.

I saw a pre-screening of this yesterday. I went in thinking this movie was gonna suck big time.

To my surprise, I was laughing throughout most of the movie. It was HILARIOUS!!! Other than the love story and predictable ending, I LOVED the movie.

The best part of the movie was watchin' all of the washed up child stars make cameos in the movie (Screetch, Danny Bodaduci, all 3 of the Brady Bunch boys, Marcia Brady, Florence Henderson, Willis & Gary Coleman, Corey Felman, Corey Haim, Rerun and Dwayne from What's Happening, Webster....the list goes on & on.

Seriously, it's worth watchin' just for all the washed up child stars.

I suppose you mean What's Happening! Hey, don't forget Willie Aames from Eight is Enough.

Corey Haim is in there? That's a surprise, as he wasn't listed in the IMDB credits.

oops, my bad, I changed it.

Yeah Corey Haim is in it. He doesn't get as much air time as Corey Feldman.

You see Corey Haim at the end along with most of the other child stars (I wont' reveal what they're doin'), but Haim is fat as hek. He definitely let himself go.

Rerun lost madd weight...it looks like all his weight went to Haim.

Finally saw a trailer. Looks like a remake of Billy Madison.

During the first 20 minutes of Dickie Roberts, I thought to myself

"My God... David Spade has finally done it. This movie may very well be Spade's 'Deuce Bigalow' "...now, to understand that quote, I have to say that I think Deuce is absolutely hilarious from start to finish...

but as the movie went on, and the "living with the family" plot kicked in, with all the sweetness in tow, the movie turned more into "David Spade's The Hot Chick". Overall, the movie IS FUNNY and worth seeing...but still leaves something to be desired...especially because it had so much potential (i'm not being sarcastic either) with a great cast, good concept etc...they just don't milk all the gags and only in a few instances do they really go for it "balls out".... I think it was better than Joe Dirt (which I also enjoyed) but could have been even better... worth seeing for fans of spade and anyone looking for a sweet comedy.

I did the screening of this movie. I thought the best part was the end with the child stars.

I saw it... Corey Haim looked like a fat KD Lang.

It was a cute movie - typical happy/madison production. It did seem a bit thrown together in parts - the editing was weird. It was funny though, so whatever.

I don't know, Rerun looked as heavy as he did back in the '70's. Roj on the other hand, looked old as hell, with his gray hair and all.

It's weird, that I've just been watching the Time/Life What's Happening! S1 discs and was wondering what those guys looked like today!

My feelings about this movie are pretty well summed up by this poll (from www.filmthreat.com):

What would you rather do this weekend?

1) Go see "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star."
2) Go see "The Order."
3) Go die a slow death.

Go die a slow death is currently leading at 76%! Cast your vote on the site and check the results!

I caught something on the news this morning that the makers of the Slip & Slide wanted the movie pulled because it showed improper use of their toy in the film. Come to think of it, was that scene even in the movie? I don't actually remember seeing it in the film, but the trailer may be burned in my mind. It mentioned something about after he gets burned with the no water attempt, he puts oil on it and then flies off the thing.

I think Slip N' Slide has a good point - everyone I know always imitates the "David Spade gets hurt" scenes from movies. Remember that bit with the fire extinguisher in "Black Sheep"? All the time.

Re: Dickie Roberts - Former Child Star

I thought it was very funny. Needed a little more edge and less sitcom during the family scenes, but overall enjoyable. And I loved the huge amount of cameos throughout.

RIP
Gary Coleman
Corey Haim
Jeff Conaway (a child star?)
