From TVShowsonDVD.com (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=582): Fans of Newsradio have been waiting for an announcement ever since the show was declared one of the "winners" of the online poll conducted by Columbia TriStar. Well, the show doesn't have a firm date, but seasons 1 and 2 will be released in early 2004. The 3 disc set will contain all 28 episodes of the short first season (7 episodes) and second season (21 episodes). With the discs being packed full of episodes it's unlikely the set will contain any bonus materials.

But I do hope that there are some extras. This is too good of a show to be released as a barebones set(then again, so was SportsNight so I digress).

How many seasons did this run all together? I watched it in the beginning, but kinda drifted away after Hartman's death. How long did it go all together and when did Lovitz join the show?
RobCA

It ran for five seasons. Jon Lovitz joined the cast in the fifth season.

I didn't watch the show regularly, so there are a lot of episodes I missed.

I have seen every episode multiple times, and will watch them multiple times again. Can't wait for this to come out, and hopefully the rest of the series is not too far behind. I really think that there is going to be a big demand for this...

TVShowsOnDVD.com has the cover art here (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=855).
Can't wait, but I wish they weren't cramming 28 episodes onto 3 discs.

I agree--I'm a little worried about the video quality there, especially if they do something horrible like give season 1 its own disc (I doubt they'll do it, though). But I love the cover design, even though I wish they had used a season 2 cast photo (I think that one is from S1).

Great news, I wouldn't worry about the picture quality. TVShowsonDVD.com says its 660 minutes, which is 11 hours. That can easily be spread on 3 discs.
Only way it can screw up is if season 1 is isolated onto 1 disc.
I'm glad they are giving us two seasons instead of 1.

I'm glad they're releasing seasons 1 and 2 together; I just wish they'd used 4 discs, like Fox did with Family Guy. They put 495 minutes' worth of Mad About You: Season 1 on two discs, and the picture quality definitely seemed to suffer.

I agree a forth disc would be appreciated. 7 episodes per disc wouldn't be bad, and I think we'd all be willing to pay the extra money for better video/audio quality.

Bad news. :( We hate to be the bearer of what fans will consider to be REALLY bad news, but Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment has just announced that NewsRadio - Season 1 & 2 has been delayed from the planned 2/3/04 date. No reason was available, and no new date has been given. Stay tuned, and we'll update you when more information becomes available. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=899

From TVShowsOnDVD.com (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=929): A few weeks ago we told you that NewsRadio was delayed. The set was originally scheduled for release on Feb 3rd, and the new date, or the reason for the delay, wasn't known.
This past week we contacted Columbia TriStar to find out why the set was delayed, and we got some good news. The set that was to be released in Feb was going to be a 3 disc set with very few special features. Creator Paul Simms caught wind of this and called Columbia TriStar and asked to take part in the set. Simms has material that can be used for special features and plans to add more. Because of Simms' involvement, the set couldn't be finished for 2/03, and the new date isn't known.
I must say that I'm extremely excited about this new information. When I heard about the set back in July at the VSDA (Video Software Dealer's Association) show, I knew the 3 discs couldn't hold all the episodes and any substantial value added material, and I was a bit bummed. NewsRadio is a show I really want to own on DVD, so the delay of the set in order to make it better is welcomed. Columbia TriStar, and Paul Simms, deserve pats on the back for doing the right thing.
Hopefully we can get in touch with Paul Simms and find out what he has planned for the set. Now I really hope they'll be putting it on four discs. :)
Maybe even more, depending on how many extras they'll be adding.

Includes many remarks from Paul Simms. He says there's no release date yet, but they're recording commentaries in April, so I can't believe this would come out before June (probably longer).

This is from that NewsRadio Newsletter at topica...
"Hey, everybody.
I know you're all wanting an update on the forthcoming NewsRadio DVD release, and while I don't have a release date for you, I can tell you that 20 episode commentaries for the set have been completed with a mix and match of participants, including Paul Simms, Dave Foley, Stephen Root, Maura Tierney, Andy Dick, Vicki Lewis, Joe Rogan, Khandi Alexander, Josh Lieb, Brad Issacs, Joe Furey, Lew Morton, Brian Kelley, Julie Bean, Kent Zbornak, Tom Cherones, Brad Grey, and yes, former NBC President Warren Littlefield.
Kent Zbornak, one of NewsRadio's producers, had the job of coordinating it all, and the show's erstwhile script supervisor, Robert Spina, sat in on the sessions and took photos.
Paul Simms has promised some additional musings on the recording of the commenataries, but right now he'll say, "In short? It was incredibly fun."
An anonymous member of the NewsRadio team adds, "It was a reunion and a revisiting in the purest sense. The commentary was funny and twisted, just like the show itself."
More on the DVDs as I get it... "

WOW! I'm impressed. I wondered why the EXTREME delay, and secretly hoped that it was for jam-packing, and indeed it is! Mixed full cast commentaries on 20 episodes is groundbreaking.
Way to go Paul Simms!

Yea they were airing it 3 time a day, 5 days a week a month ago.
Anyway, I'll wait as long as it takes if the set ends up as good as it sounds. I'd love commentary with pretty much the entire cast. Wow, nice stuff.

NewsRadio - DVD Progress!
Posted by Gord Lacey
6/25/2004
We're received a number of emails from fans asking what's going on with Newsradio. The set was originally scheduled for earlier this year, but was delayed because the show's creator, Paul Simms, wanted to be involved in adding special features to the set. We haven't heard a word more since late last year when we posted about the delay.
Today we received the following email from Tom Berg:
I do traffic reports and am a morning sidekick for a local radio show in Indianapolis, IN.
The other morning we had Stephen Root on as a guest and he mentioned that he had just finished recording commentaries for the first 2 seasons of "Newsradio". You can take that for what it's worth, but hopefully that means that season sets of the show aren't too far away!
That's the best news we've heard in a long time because it lets us know there's some progress being made on the set. A big thanks to Tom for sending us the information.

I pre-ordered in order to get the, hopefully, cheaper price since the reason for the delay was because Simms wanted to add some extras. Those that pre-ordered figured at worst it stays the same price, at best they add another disc and lock it in at the initial price.
Chaza
12-13-04, 11:49 PM
Yeah my preorder will be 16 months old by that time, but I hopefully will only have to pay $25.16 as I did get STL on it.
$29.96 sounds like a pretty good price for a 2 season volume. May think about getting this now, since I loved this show (pre-Jon Lovitz). Finances suggest differently, however.
BigDan

While still a good price, season one was really short (only seven episodes).
So there's only 28 episodes in the 2 season set.
