Bend it Like Beckhem question?
I noticed on imdb.com that they changed the word "football" to "soccer" for american audiences. Is the studio releasing the movie here in the states gonna release it with its original soundtrack as well?

Hey Rypo, the following isn't meant to sound rude, but what does changing any reference of football to soccer for American audiences have to do with the soundtrack?
Are you inferring that they will alter the dialogue?
I doubt it. That's probably just for promotional reasons only - so that American audiences don't go in expecting 4th and 1

I meant will the dvd have both the english/uk soundtrack (saying football), and the english american soundtrack (saying soccer), if it doesn't have the uk soundtrack no biggie.

Paramount, oddly enough, usually does this!
Fox also icluded the original soundtrack to The Full Monty on its DVD release.
I have the r2, so it doesn't matter much to me, but changing the dialogue really irks me. One of the reasons I'm so happy to have my english DVD of BILB, Human Traffic and others... altering the soundtrack for American audiences is only one or two notches above dubbing over cursing for TV, in my opinion.

Do the studios really believe that their fellow Americans are so stupid that they wouldn't be able to figure out that when the characters are referring to "football" they're talking about soccer?

When I saw the movie today, they said football not soccer. Also does anyone know if they had to dub any of the voices due to some americans not understadnign the accents and or phrases (and I kind of hope there's a trivia track and or insert that explains some of the terms

What was that article in The Onion last year during World Cup. Something that mentions "World Footballer of the Year, Luis Figo, from Portugal" and the response from an local man is something like "Dang, they play football in Portugal? Well they could never beat the Green Bay Packers, I'll tell you that."

They can change FOOTBALL to SOCCER all they want as long as they include the original British soundtrack as an option (ala The Full Monty). But they better have British subtitles, too (once again, ala The Full Monty).

It's amazing how studios spend money on crap like this.
Did they honestly think their costs to redub stuff would counter, and make them more money?
How many people would not see the movie, or dislike the movie, because they say football? a lot less then those who would not see the movie because of it, or at the very least dislike it.
