Crayons and DVDTalk have been synonymous over the last 1 1/2 months. Here's the deal. To each person who wants a crayon, I will mail it to them. No charge. There is a rather inexpensive way to send them out. There are 96 crayons needing a home and looking to have a picture taken somewhere. Just use my email and send me the request. When each one arrives take a picture somewhere with it. Your towns "Welcome" sign or by the car. Being held by someone or sitting unperturbed on a fence. Perhaps with food of some sort. All that is needed is a picture posted here. Might even measure the distance of how far all the crayons go.

All I need is your username and shipping address. Use my email in my profile to send it. I will not share the information or post any of that anywhere. My word. On each package will be my return address in case any of them get lost and have to come back. No MIA crayons on this mission.

- There are 95 left. The black one is already claimed. :)

That is a super cool idea. I would do it BUT i'm a super lazy bastard and the crayon would only sit on my couch and keep my company as i bitch about dvds in P & S. In general i would be an unfit crayon parent.

But this will be fun to see when it's all done.

AudioWizard - this could be the turning point in your life. Accept the crayon. Love the crayon. Care for the crayon. Photograph the crayon.

MasterofDVD - come on - don't be a bystander - be a bydoer!

But what if i went to the store and left the crayon in the car with the windows rolled up and come back with my grocery bags of beer and porn to see my little crayon has melted. I would just lose the will to live.

You know how when you end up not doing something, and that thing is kinda cool, and they call that "laming out"?

Well, I'd like to think of doing this as "laming in."

In a good way, I mean.

True story. I used to throw bottles with messages in them into the ocean. One day I got a letter from the guy who found it, he was my old next-door neighbor that had moved away the previous year. He found it north of LA.

Okay.. maybe not that cool, but it was cool to me when it happened. It was the only reply I ever got.

It was kind like an early form of forum communication.

Preacher, I want one. I would like to see where people go with their crayon and what interesting spot they can get it in. So to speak.

Can we get one before the San Diego otter meet?

Did you see the recent story about the kid that threw a bottle in the water in FL while on vacation? He did it 20 years ago and it popped up this year. The boy died right after he did it and the mother just happened to be in the FL area on vacation when it was found so they brought it to her. I remember a quote from her "You've brought my son back to me." Eerie stuff.

and have taken many memorable photos..

we should have a contest for best photos... most creative.. whatever..

and someone get thor in on this dammit!

and then after we have taken all the pictures.. all 96 people can try to auction off the single crayon.. but no other dvdtalk member can bid on it.. and we can see if anyone actually buys them
you can even use your creative pictures with the crayons.. in your auction!

I like twikoff's idea about everyone putting their one crayon up on ebay at the same time. And everyone could put a specific same keyword in the auction title. Something that people on ebay always search for, like "star wars dvd" or something. And then someone does a search and all these goofy crayon auctions come up to confuse them. I don't know if the auctions would be removed for keyword spamming but its an idea.

That's kinda cool. Call it "96 colors" or something like that, and split the proceeds with the people who got crayons and sent images back.

It could be like one page would be the crayon picture(s) and the facing page would be the name of the person, their screen name, the crayon color, and where it went. There would even be room for a quote or some other such thing.

It would definately be interesting. I bet some publisher somewhere would pick it up.

I'm assuming that out of the 96 colors, there will be a few people who don't return pictures. Thus, there can be a backup list to send crayons from a second box (or they can pick up their own box, once they know what color they need).

RoyalTea I completely understand anyone not willing to send their information/address out. The hope is that the exchange of an address is a trade people are willing to make. On a side note I think that mini and Abranut should have a crayon reunion as it were. Two crayons at the same location -eek-

I should have it ready by the time people start posting pics. You're going to set up a site? Should we email the pictures to you? If so, is it OK to send large photos to let you resize them to whatever you feel is ideal? Also, want to put a limit on the number of photos per crayon? (Say, 3 or 4?)

Also, it would be nice if people wrote a short story about their travels with their crayons, talking about what the photo is of, etc. Limited to, say, 50 words, it would hopefully be put under the photo as a caption. First person or third person, from the photographers, or the crayons perspective, doesn't matter.

What, you mean whitewater rafting doesn't get gaydasion excited?

Yeah, since I know perverts abound here, I try to avoid that word as much as possible. :D

Preacher, if you do set a deadline, can we make it at least thirty days from now? If all goes according to plan, "Spring Green" will be "appearing" in roughly 30 days. More info as the date nears. ;)

I just saw this. Any crayons left? I can take one to the temple and perhaps convert it to Mormonism.

Note: The site that is being worked on is a damn fine idea. It will allow us to know that the pictures and stories we get will be in a safe place to look at when we wish. And to add to as some of the crayons travel. Thank you, Thor Simpson.

But we need to put the pictures up here first. This is the place that started this and it is where we should come and see them. The website is going to be perfect for many things and we will be blessed to have it. But this is DVDTalk and it is where we met and where this story started. People should not have to go elsewhere to see where the crayons have gone and what the stories and pictures tell.

All we have to do is figure this out and we will find a way to the best answer. As Heat asks, how many people will need a place to host their pictures? Between Thor, myself and the numerous people with access to store pictures, the answer should come quickly. Some way to organize the location of pictures to start with so that people can post with them. Any ideas?

PS: twikoff: the orange is on its way to the Netherlands. and there are less crayons than before.

First thought was "What the hell does that mean!" I had to look it up. :)

Also, on a side note:

I can host some pictures if people need hosting.

I was meaning to ask, but yes, I'll need someplace to host my pictures. Any help would be appreciated. :)
