Amazing Race - 7/31/03

Great race tonight.

Spoiler:
The teams finished: Kelly & Jon; Reichen and Chip; Jon & Al; and David & Jeff. And it ended up being a non-elimination round, so the David & Jeff will live to race another day.

What a good ep.

Kelly: "And lucky me, I'm engaged to the *******." she rules.

Do people want to post about tonight's episode here, or in the previously existing thread?

The thread you mention has the wrong date heading, and was never changed as you requested.

When I searched to see if this thread was a dup, I only saw that heading and didn't dive into it.

It looks like Chip and Reichen were wrong to take the subway instead of wait it out in the taxi.... that or they just took a REALLY long time with that food. Definitly a bad move there.

Man that eating thing, there is no way I would have done that, especially when they pulled out the 2 plates. If it was one then maybe.. but 2 plates.

So next week must be a non-elim also yes? there is 1 left and still 4 teams.

Next week someone will get booted, and then it will be down to the final three. The week after next will be a non elimination, and then it will be a run to the finish. So I am thinking that there are three weeks left...

Way to go Kelly & Jon! Made up lots of time, going last to first, all without using the Fast Forward.

Wasn't hard to figure out this was a non-elimination leg. Heck, the teams certainly knew it since none of them even considered going for the FF.

The first thing I thought of when I saw that they allowed them to drink water was to do them like oyster shooters. Throw the octupus in some beer and just shoot it down.

Except for the Gay Duo, I think they all do.

The faces of Chip when he's eating the octopuses

When Al starts breaking boards and they go flying everywhere

Great episode tonite. The final legs look like they're going to be really competitive.

I expect that there are probably only two weeks left. Next week, someone will be eliminated, leaving three teams. Then, the following week will be a two hour finale with a non-elimination pit stop in the middle. IIRC, that is how it has been done in the past.

3 teams that havent used the FF and only 1 leg left to use it...i wonder if two teams will go for it at the same time leaving the door open of Chip and Reichen to easily slide into the finals

good episode to watch. Ive been to Seoul Tower and to the Palace in which they made their final stop. You can see Seoul Tower plain as day from the in-processing center in Yongsang. Costs 2 won just to go up the elevator and the cokes in the restaurant at the top were 3 bucks. The restaurant moves slowly in a circle and the tables have their own binocular type deals to see seoul while youre going in circles; its kinda cool.

I had to laugh at the traffic comments because I remember that so well. I wasnt too far from yongsang but it took two hours to get there by bus.

And going to the DMZ, well it wasnt that scary when I went there. Course, that was in 97.

I was thinking it was Amazing Race meets Fear Factor. At leas tthe octopus was cut up. Raw calamari does not sound appealing to me.

I would never have taken a "food" option ... it just seems pretty obvious that it would be unpleasant.

By the way, I think the frozen river roadblock was one of the most dangerous I've seen on that show. I can see why they waited until the end of the race ... I'm not sure some of the early teams could've even done it.

The thing about the food option is that it was closer... but... you have no idea where you have to go next.

Did anyone else wonder at why this was even a challenge? I mean, haven't they always used local attractions for the Road Blocks/Detours and not set their own up? Doesn't that mean people do the ice swim S. Korea for the fun of it?

I agree that some of the earlier teams could not have done it.

maybe it was a last minute setup.

I did notice that all the groups were waiting around doing nothing waiting for them to set up the river. It could be possible that it was a last minute change.

For a last minute change, they had to have a doctor, make sure the whole thing was safe ect.

I don't think so.
