So I guess they've ditched the idea of consistency between posters. I'd have liked to see one using the same gold tint the Doc Ock poster had, but maybe that's just me.

I love the Doc Ock poster. Very creepy. The Spiderman poster looks almost exactly like the cover of the full frame dvd that came out last year. I plan on seeing the film, but I won't be first in line. The first movie was only so-so. Plus, no Gwen Stacy in either film--how could they write out such an important character in Peter Parker's life?

The movies are their own versions of the Peter Parker story. Aren't the comics fairly convulted now as well? So who really cares if they use characters from the comics?
Peter Parker: check
Bitten by a spider: check
Uncle killed by a mugger: check
Everything else is just gravy.
Doc Ock looks cool. Spiderman's pose looks lame.

Octavius is in da Hizz OUSE!!! Those tentacles are SHHWEEEEET! Semi flattened and ribbon like as opposed to round. Layered segmentation promising extension to ridiculous degrees. Scary, clampy things that look like they can do origami on a human (ala Robocop 2). Little lights. They had better have him walk around on these things. Raimi did put a long smoke trail behind the goblin, so you’d think he’ll be faithful to this guy. Alfred Molina is the bomb too. I can’t wait!

I agree. sometimes you have to keep it a simple down played method. Imagen how much back story they would have to do if they really wanted to stay true to characters like venom? it would take a couple of films just to get it rolling.
and yeah, the comics typically change from writer to writer so once one goes the comic usually becomes a mess for a while as it rebuilds itself. sometimes changing a lot of what made it what it was
