What exactly do I need to get my PS2 online?

I know this has probably been posted to death and I searched but couldn't find a definitive answer here (and why can't you search for 3 or less letters?)

Anyway, I have Verizon DSL but the computer is in the basement and the PS2 set-up is 2 floors up. Most people say I need a router (whatever that is) or something and some say I can just plug into the phone jack with DSL upstairs.

The sony site makes it sound like if you have the adapter and broadband, you can just plug in and play.

I do not want to have to hook this thing up to the computer in any way. I just want to keep the PS2 where it is and play online. I don't care if I have to turn the computer off or something while I do that.

Is there a definitive answer to this? I'd like to get one before buying the online adapter.

u can unplug the computer and only go online with the ps2 or get a router and go online with BOTH the computer and the ps2.

If you have a phonejack upstairs that has DSL, then you should be able to just hook up the PS2 to it.

Thanks. The DSL runs to every phone jack in the house. That is what I was hoping to hear!
