VH1 has lost its collective mind.

Long time lurker, first time poster. What I have seen tonight on VH1 necessitated that I come out of the woodwork to stave off insanity.

Has anyone been watching VH1's Top 200 Pop Culture Icons of All Time? They are showing them all week, but the list has already been compiled.

Here is a link to this abomination:

http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/the_gre.../episode.jhtml

Note the GLARING omissions and EXTREMELY QUESTIONABLE ordering. For example: The Beatles are ranked behind the cast of Friends, Monica Lewinsky is on the list, no Charlton Heston, no James Bond, and NO STAR WARS.

What are your thoughts? Comments? Rants? Discuss!

Overall, I am absolutely appalled and disgusted by this "ranking." I realize it's just a stupid countdown, but it's still infuriating. I mean, Justin freaking Timberlake is ranked ahead of Johnny Carson, and RICKY MARTIN is ahead of Jim Morrison.

I didn't know if this should be posted here or in TV Talk, but I figured I'd get more interesting responses here, especially in light of the CDG and Crayon threads. :-)

You watch VH1

Welcome to the Forum

The problem with any Top list is that people will always disagree with things in it or things left out.

James Bond sucks... the Beatles sucked too. I won't click on that link though cuz I don't care what VH1 thinks.

Oh - and welcome to the forum.

If you're being serious...then I'm with you. I also hold these rather unpopular opinions.

Wehther you like them or not is irrelevent. You can't deny the impact these two legitimate pop culture icons have had. They're certainly going to be remembered long after Ricky Martin and Justin Timberlake are forgotten.

I'm not denying their influence, I just don't ever, ever want to listen to them. Or Ricky Martin or Justin Timberlake. Yech on all counts.

To rerail: I agree that Vh1 continues to suck, forever and ever, amen.

There is only one worthwhile incarnation of VH-1, and that would be VH-1 Classic&#153. All other VH-1s are dead to me.

Judging from the username and location, I feel it's important at this point to note that our new forum member is a cock.

While at this particular time, I needed no reminder, it's still good to know that my decision to pay no attention to VH1 in any capacity whatsoever has been a valid one.

Welcome to the forum.

has had a HUGE impact on American culture for the past twenty or so years. It's not a list of who you like, it's who has become part of the pop culture landscape.

Go Cocks!

It is a damned shame our goody-two-shoes athletic director has worked against the use of the term "Cocks" in reference to our athletic teams. It was so cool having the cheerleaders wearing panties that read "Go Cocks!" on the butt. LOL.

But seriously, I'm not a VH1 fan simply because of things like this list. It is as if the people who made up this list are all 16 years old, retarded, and high on oxycontin.

It's not often I get to call another member (other than a "member" ) a cock and get away with it. Still not sure why you guys don't build a healthy rivalry with the other USC, so we can have the annual Cocks vs. Trojans game.

As for the list, I started to address its stupidity but quickly realized it's just too stupid to comment on. I mean, Nicole Kidman's a bigger pop culture icon than Bugs Bunny? Whatever. At least these stupid lists are changing them up a bit. The last dumbass list had Letterman being bigger than Carson. Now he's down below Carson AND Leno. Sure. Whatever. AFI, TV Guide, and VH1 need to get together and make a Top 100 Reasons We are So Insignificant We Have to Create Lists to Seem Relevant.

das, you don't watch VH1? I caught some of this show and it didn't keep my interest, but I really enjoyed their "I love the 80's" specials. Of course the fact that Vh1 has shown the 80's specials so much is pathetic, but it's worth watching.

VH1 was near bankrupt a couple years ago...so of course they went "MTV" and are appealing soley to teenagers and the 18-30 year olds. They've gotten really sleasy these days as well...

I just watching and Bob Marley was ranked BEHIND Winona Ryder. Are you f'ing kidding me????

He was ranked like 180-something....what a joke, that guy should be top 20.

Top 50, most definitely. There are so many things on that list that defy logic it is mind-boggling. It was as if a team of monkeys was put in charge of the selections and rankings; absolute absurdity was the result in any case.
